Wizards Considering Using Amnesty On Blatche

JULY 16, 6:34pm: According to NBA.com's David Aldridge, the Wizards are now leaning toward amnestying Andray Blatche. The team still has not made a final decision, but has until tomorrow to decide.

JULY 13, 10:37am: The Wizards are still undecided on whether to use their amnesty clause on Blatche, reports Michael Lee of the Washington Post. One source, asked which way the Wizards are leaning, said the team is "standing straight up."

According to Lee, the Wizards continue to work the phones trying to find a trade partner that would take Blatche, but one source thinks Washington would have to pair Blatche with a "major asset" in order to find a deal.

Phil Jackson Interested In Role With Trail Blazers

Phil Jackson is interested in joining the Trail Blazers, but not as a head coach, according to the Oregonian's Jason Quick. A source close to the 13-time NBA champion says that while he isn't interested in being a coach, there are other ways he might be able to help the team, including advising trade scenarios and managing the coaching staff, which is currently in flux.

Earlier this week it was reported that the Trail Blazers had been in contact with Jackson for several months, ultimately offering him their head coaching position, which was turned down. Jackson retired from coaching after the 2010/11 season, but his return to the league has been the topic of rumors ever since. In June he was reported to be interested in the Magic's open head coaching position, but that report quickly fell apart.

Hawks Acquire Kyle Korver

JULY 16: The Hawks have announced via a team press release that they have officially acquired Kyle Korver from the Bulls in exchange for cash. As noted on Twitter by ESPN.com's John Hollinger, the Bulls receive a $5MM trade exception in the deal, and the Timberwolves are no longer involved

JULY 13: The trade will also include the Timberwolves, according to Johnson (via Twitter). Korver will be absorbed into the Hawks' $5MM trade exception, and the Bulls will receive a second-round pick from Minnesota, says Johnson. It sounds as if one more detail is required here.

2:18pm: The Bulls have agreed to trade Kyle Korver to the Hawks, reports K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune (via Twitter). The deal is pending a physical, and could become a sign-and-trade involving Kirk Hinrich, according to Johnson.

Kings Waive Hassan Whiteside

The Kings have waived Hassan Whiteside in order to clear a little more cap room to finalize the Aaron Brooks signing, tweets SI.com's Sam Amick. Whiteside's minimum-salary contract was non-guaranteed for this season.

While some contract databases suggest the deadline to waive Whiteside without guaranteeing his 2012/13 salary was yesterday, I would assume Sacramento let him go in time to avoid paying him for the coming season. The 23-year-old was drafted with the 33rd overall pick by the Kings in 2010, but barely saw any NBA playing time in his two seasons with the team, appearing in a total of just 19 games.

Kings Agree To Sign Aaron Brooks

4:33pm: Brook's deal averages $3.3MM annually, with a second-year player option, according to SI.com's Sam Amick (via Twitter).

4:21pm: Brooks' contract is expected to be worth about $3MM annually, reports Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee (via Sulia).

Clippers Interested In Grant Hill

Looking to add depth to their bench, the Clippers have targeted Grant Hill, according to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times. Sources tells Turner that Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro met with Hill on Sunday in Las Vegas to gauge Hill's interest in playing for the Clips.

The Clippers could land Hill using the bi-annual exception or in a sign-and-trade deal, but it's unclear whether their interest is reciprocated. A weekend report suggested that the 39-year-old was considering the Lakers, Knicks, and Heat, so we'll see whether he adds the Clippers to that list.

Free Agent Rumors: Rush, McGee, Flynn, Landry

Hoops Rumors' list of 2012 restricted free agents has fewer than a dozen names left on it, and a couple more (Jeremy Lin, Nicolas Batum) are set to come off the board as soon as we get resolution on their respective offer sheets. With a number of players having signed new deals and a few others having become unrestricted, it might not be long before there are no restricted free agents left on the market. But for now, there are still a handful looking for work, and we have updates on a couple of them within today's round-up of free agent rumors….

Contract Details: Novak, Green, Miller, Thompson

While most players' contracts include annual raises, or at the very least, identical annual salaries, Steve Novak's new contract with the Knicks is a little different, as Mark Deeks of ShamSports explains (Twitter link). Novak's deal starts at a little over $4MM, dips to below $3.5MM by 2014/15, then rises back up to $3.75MM for 2015/16. The unusual structure of the deal provides the Knicks a small amount of savings in the years when the rest of the team's roster will get extremely expensive.

Deeks shared a number of other contract details from around the league, via Twitter, so let's round them up….

  • The Spurs' deal with Danny Green is for three fully-guaranteed years and $11,287,500, with no options.
  • Andre Miller will earn $5MM in each of the next two seasons with the Nuggets. The third year of his deal is partially guaranteed for $2MM of $4.625MM.
