Heat Cut Garrett Temple

The Heat have waived point guard Garrett Temple, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports (Twitter link). The move brings Miami's roster to the regular-season limit of 15. Terrel Harris, Josh Harrellson, Dexter Pittman and James Jones, all thought to be competing for a roster spot at one time or another, appear as though they've made it to opening night. Winderman believes the good health of starting point guard Mario Chalmers made Temple expendable (Twitter link).

Hawks Waive James Anderson, Damion James

The Hawks waived their last pair of players on non-guaranteed deals, cutting ties with James Anderson and Damion James, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports via Twitter. The team's roster is down to 14 players, 13 of whom have fully guaranteed deals. Kyle Korver has a partial guarantee of $500K on his $5MM deal, but he seems unlikely to be let go.

Knicks Waive Bellfield, Shurna, Thompson, Sims

The Knicks waived four players to get down to the 15-man roster limit today, cutting ties with Oscar Bellfield, John Shurna, Mychel Thompson and Henry Sims, as Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today reports (Twitter link). Shurna and Sims had partial guaranteed of $50K, while Bellfield's and Thompson's contracts were non-guaranteed. The moves likely mean Chris Copeland, who has a non-guaranteed deal, will be on the Knicks opening-night roster.

Cavs Waive Eric, Jones, Brown

The Cavs have waived Micheal Eric, Kevin Jones and D'Aundray Brown, the team reports via Twitter. The moves bring the team's roster down to the regular-season limit of 15. Eric's deal was partially guaranteed for $300K, while Jones had a partial guarantee of $50K. Brown's contract was non-guaranteed.

Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio tweets that Brown appears headed to the team's D-League affiliate in Canton, while it's unclear whether Eric will wind up there. Jones will likely go elsewhere, Amico says.

Lakers Cut Goudelock, Will Waive Johnson-Odom

The Lakers have waived Andrew Goudelock, Mike Trudell of Lakers.com tweets. Emiliano Carchia of Sportando reports the team will also waive fellow camp invitee Darius Johnson-Odom, who has a deal lined up with the Ukrainian club Azovmash Mariupol. The subtraction of both players, who were on non-guaranteed deals, will leave the Lakers with a roster count of 14, one fewer than the regular-season limit.

The Lakers took Goudelock with the 46th overall pick in the 2011 draft, and the 6'3" guard was in the team's rotation early last season, when he wound up averaging 4.4 points in 10.5 minutes per game with an 8.4 PER. A deeper backcourt in L.A. this year squeezed him out, however. Johnson-Odom, also a 6'3" guard, was the 55th overall pick in this year's draft, but didn't get much time in the preseason, averaging just 1.5 PPG in 4.8 MPG over four contests.

The moves appear to signal Robert Sacre, the team's only other player on a non-guaranteed deal, has made the team. The Lakers could opt to carry only 13 players, though, and if they do so, or decide to sign someone else, they could cut Sacre anytime between now and January 10th without being on the hook for a full season's salary.

Mavericks Sign Ely, Douglas-Roberts

SATURDAY, 1:05pm: The Mavericks have confirmed the moves via press release.

THURSDAY, 7:51pm: Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas reports that the Mavericks have agreed to sign Melvin Ely and Chris Douglas-Roberts to non-guaranteed contracts. Both additions are expected to compete with Eddy Curry for the 15th and final roster spot.

Ely last played in the NBA during the 2010-11 season for the Nuggets, averaging 2.3 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 12.2 MPG in 30 games. He had most recently played for Brujos de Guayama of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico, where he averaged 8.0 PPG and 5.6 RPG in five games after signing with the team in March.

Douglas-Roberts was recently waived by the Lakers after appearing in four pre-season games, averaging 4.0 PPG and 45.5% shooting in 8.3 MPG.

Thunder Waive Rautins, Orton, Thompson

The Thunder have let go of Andy Rautins, Daniel Orton and Hollis Thompson, reports Royce Young of DailyThunder.com. All were on partially guaranteed deals — Orton for $100K, Thompson for $75K, and Rautins for $25K.  That means DeAndre Liggins, whose deal is also partially guaranteed for $25K, appears to have won the competition for the team's final regular season roster spot.

Young writes that the Thunder are expected to retain the rights to Rautins, Orton and Thompson for their D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers, as long as they clear waivers. The Thunder signed the 6'8" Thompson, who went undrafted out of Georgetown in June, on the first day free agents could officially sign with teams this summer. Orton, a 6'10" native of Oklahoma City, was the 29th pick in the 2010 draft by the Magic, who didn't pick up his third-year option, allowing him to sign with his hometown team in August. The Thunder picked up Rautins and Liggins, both guards, on the same day in September. Both were former second-round picks with brief NBA action.

The Thunder now have 15 players on their roster, though they could decide to let Liggins go at any time before January 10th without having to pay more than his $25K partial guarantee.

Trail Blazers Cut Five, Including Morrison

SATURDAY, 12:47pm: The Blazers confirmed the roster cuts via press release.

FRIDAY, 5:51pm: According to CSNNW.com's Chris Haynes, the Trail Blazers have informed Adam Morrison, Coby KarlDallas Lauderdale, Demonte Harper, and Justin Holiday that they will be released on Saturday, bringing the team's roster down to 15 for the season. Harper and Holiday will be assigned down to the D-League affiliate Idaho Stampede.

One factor to be considered in Portland's decision to take forward Sasha Pavlovic instead of Morrison is the fact that the Celtics are paying Pavlovic's salary.

Stein On Harden, Gibson, Curry, Bobcats

As we close in on the extension deadline for players out of the draft class of 2009, Bulls forward Taj Gibson insists that he isn't letting his contract situation be a distraction.  Of course, Gibson would prefer to have a new contract worked out in advance of the October 31st deadline.  Last night, ESPN.com's Marc Stein took to Twitter to look at some the players in line for contract extensions out of the 2009 draft class.  Let's take a look..

  • Stein believes that the Thunder and James Harden will reach agreement on a contract extension, but there is pessimism surrounding the situation as Oklahoma City is insisting on a deal for less than the max (Twitter link).  Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman is among those who are less-than-optimistic about a deal being struck, giving the club a 0.2% chance of working something out.
  • Stein (via Twitter) still expects the Warriors to extend Stephen Curry despite his recurring ankle issues.  Curry missed time during the preseason, leading many to believe that the guard would not work out a new deal with Golden State.  The 24-year-old is set to earn roughly $3.96MM as he enters the fourth and final year of his rookie deal.
  • It's a safe bet that the Bulls will extend Gibson by Wednesday's deadline, Stein tweets.  Late last week, Gibson said that he hopes to spend the rest of his career in Chicago.
  • Gerald Henderson and Byron Mullens both told Stein (via Twitter) that they hope to hammer out extensions with the Bobcats before the Wednesday deadline.  The Bobcats have been exploring an extension for the Duke product, but reportedly won't pull the trigger unless the terms are very team-friendly.  Mullens took a significant step forward last season as he averaged 9.3 PPG and 5.0 RPG in his first year with Charlotte.

Bucks Waive Tucker, Gill, Farrakhan, Greene

The Bucks have waived Alando Tucker, Eddie Gill, Mustapha Farrakhan, and Orien Greene, according to C.F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (via Twitter).  Milwaukee is now at the regular season roster limit of 15.

Tucker was a former first-round pick of the Suns in the 2007 draft but was never able to live up to expectations.  The 6’6″ forward out of Wisconsin has been absent from the league since being cut by the Timberwolves in December of 2009.

Gill, 34, has been out of the Association since his last go-round with the Bucks in 2008/09.  Farrakhan played for the Knicks’ summer league squad this season before hooking on with Milwaukee on October 1st.  Greene, 30, spent last season in the D-League and averaged 9.2 PPG and 3.4 RPG for the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
