Top Three-Point Shooters Still On The Market

For teams still in need of outside shooting help, the pickings on the free agent market have gotten slim. The summer's top available shooters, like J.J. Redick and Kyle Korver, quickly landed lucrative long-term contracts, while mid-level types like Chase Budinger, Randy Foye, and Mike Dunleavy were also snapped up in short order.

Even less expensive players like Wayne Ellington, Dorell Wright, Mike Miller, Francisco Garcia, and others are off the board, with seemingly half of them headed to Houston to surround Dwight Howard with shooters. So for a team like the Thunder, who missed out on a few of the aforementioned guys, there aren't many attractive options left. Oklahoma City reached an agreement with Ryan Gomes this week, and while Gomes is cheap and has a career .350 3PT%, he also hasn't appeared in an NBA game since March 2012.

For the Thunder and other clubs in search of more shooting, which free agents still on the board might be fits? Listed below are the free agents with the best 2012/13 three-point percentages. At least 50 three-point attempts are required to qualify for this list, to avoid too-small sample sizes. Here are the top 15, with their '12/13 3PT% in parentheses:

  1. Royal Ivey (.420)
  2. Roger Mason Jr. (.415)
  3. Cartier Martin (.397)
  4. Mike James (.384)
  5. Mo Williams (.383)
  6. Darius Morris (.364)
  7. Chris Duhon (.363)
  8. Antawn Jamison (.361)
  9. A.J. Price (.350)
  10. Luke Babbitt (.348)
  11. Daniel Gibson (.344)
  12. Jeremy Pargo (.338)
  13. Anthony Tolliver (.338)
  14. Jerry Stackhouse (.337)
  15. Jannero Pargo (.336)

Knicks Rumors: Brown, Udrih, Williams, West

We heard yesterday that the Knicks, in their search for a third point guard, are hoping to convince veteran free agent Beno Udrih to sign for the minimum and come to New York. That's not the only iron the team has in the fire though. Here's the latest on the Knicks:

  • Although Bobby Brown reached an agreement with China's Dongguan Leopards, the deal has an August 15th NBA opt-out date, giving him two weeks to find an NBA offer he likes. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Brown's first choice would be to sign with the Knicks, even though the minimum salary he could make in New York would be about half of the $1MM he'd earn in China.
  • Before deciding whether to circle back to Brown, the Knicks are eyeing veteran options like Udrih and Mo Williams. However, if Williams ends up settling for a minimum-salary contract, he's more likely to join the Heat, says Berman.
  • Despite previous inquiries, the Knicks are no longer considering Delonte West, a source tells Berman.
  • Berman adds that the Knicks are expected to invite point guard Toure Murry to training camp after a successful Summer League run.
  • Noting that Lamar Odom is still undecided on where he'll play in 2013/14, Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com wonders (via Twitter) if the Knicks would be a fit, with New York in the market for a big.

Greg Oden To Make Decision On Friday

Free agent big man Greg Oden will decide where he'll sign on Friday, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports (via Twitter). The Heat, Kings, Hawks, Pelicans, Spurs, and Mavericks are the teams in the running for the former first overall pick.

Spears initially reported last Tuesday that a decision from Oden was expected to come this week, and has since suggested that the 25-year-old is most intrigued by the Heat and Pelicans. Miami has been linked to Oden for the better part of 2013, and have always looked to me like the frontrunner, though New Orleans and other clubs are making a late push.

Of Oden's suitors, the Pelicans and Kings have the $2.65MM room exception available to offer, while the Heat have their mini mid-level exception worth about $3.18MM. The Hawks could waive some non-guaranteed salaries to clear a chunk of cap space, and the Mavs and Spurs can only offer minimum-salary deals. Of course, just because a team like the Heat has the flexibility to outbid other teams, it doesn't necessarily mean they'll offer that full MLE.

Antawn Jamison Drawing Interest

One month after free agency opened, Antawn Jamison still finds himself without a deal, but that doesn't mean there are no potential suitors out there. According to DeAntae Prince of the Sporting News, the Bulls, Clippers, Grizzlies, and Bobcats have all displayed interest in Jamison, who still believes he has a couple solid NBA seasons left.

Multiple reports within the last month have linked the Clippers and Bobcats to Jamison, but I believe this is the first we've heard of the Bulls' and Grizzlies' interest. It's also not clear whether some of these clubs may have only been interested in the 37-year-old prior to completing other moves. In any case, Jamison is seeking a situation that works out a little better than his one-year stint with the Lakers did.

"Because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it's the perfect fit," Jamison said. "So I really want to make sure the next team I go to, whether it's a one- or two-year deal, that it's a really good fit and we have a understanding with each other as well.

"I made the money, accomplished a lot of things individually. I have a couple years left where I can compete night in and night out and really have an opportunity to enjoy basketball and not dealing with losses and other nonsense. I just want to have fun and be a part of something special."

Jamison signed for the veteran's minimum a year ago with the Lakers, which was viewed as a discount at the time. However, after a down year by his standards (career-low 15.3 PER), he may be in line for another minimum-salary contract this time around.

Mike Muscala Signs With Obradoiro

Second-round pick Mike Muscala has signed overseas with Blusens Monbus Obradoiro of the ACB League, according to the team. Muscala, who was drafted by the Hawks this June, confirmed the news himself, via Twitter.

Muscala, 22, was acquired by the Hawks as part of a draft-night deal that also landed the team Jared Cunningham and the No. 16 pick. The 44th overall pick played four seasons at Bucknell, averaging a double-double (18.7 PPG, 11.1 RPG) in his senior year.

On the heels of Erick Green's deal with Siena, Muscala becomes the latest American draftee to head overseas while his NBA team hangs on to his rights. Depending on the terms of Muscala's agreement, Atlanta should have the opportunity to bring him back stateside next summer.
