JULY 1, 12:46pm: Adams has officially signed with the team, Wojnarowski tweets.
JUNE 29, 8:05pm: The Trail Blazers are expected to sign point guard and G League MVP runner-up Jaylen Adams, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets.
Adams will replace veteran forward Trevor Ariza on the roster. Ariza opted out of the league’s restart plan due to family reasons.
The 6’2” Adams appeared in 34 games last season with the Hawks. The 24-year-old appeared in 34 games with the Wisconsin Herd this season, racking up averages of 20.9 PPG, 5.2 APG, 4.9 RPG and 1.7 SPG in 31.7 MPG. He went undrafted in 2018 after a stellar college career with St. Bonaventure.
As a substitute player, Adams won’t push the Blazers further into the luxury tax. His salary will be included in total league salaries but won’t count against Portland’s cap, Bobby Marks of ESPN tweets.
The Blazers still have one open spot on their 15-man roster.
Blazers should trade CJ McCollum and Trevor Ariza for Tobias Harris, Josh Richardson, 2×2020 second round picks
In JRich the Blazers cheaply replace McCollum with someone who is younger, much better defensively and largely plays a similar game. JRich is good as a secondary playmaker while still giving you some consistent scoring. The defence would be a huge bonus tho.
Tobias Harris would be a solid weapon for this team capable of playing either forward spot but prefers PF. He can do a little bit of everything and at 27 his age would be great for giving Dame a chance at a ring.
Between Dame JRich Harris and Nurkic you have a solid starting core without even going into the role players and bench with Simons, Hood, Little, Melo and Collins. You’ve also got a good bunch of youth and the two extra second round picks would be nice additions too.
For the Sixers McCollum would be an ideal SG to pair with Simmons. McCollum for multiple seasons covered the most yards in a season showing his hard work as a worker off the ball. Having him run of screens and catching and shooting would be great. Recently he’s improved his playmaking and is handle is silky smooth now.
Ariza could either be kept as a vet 3 and D SF or in the offseason be released with only 1.2 mil guaranteed for next season.
Blazers get younger, deeper and overall better.
Sixers build more of a win now team, and create some cap flexibility.
Nurkic is in Denver.
Ariza and Little for JRich would be a great trade.
CJ for Collins is as well.
Adams was an excellent PU for the Blazers. Can’t believe he wasn’t signed back in February.
Nurkic is in Portland…?
