SEPTEMBER 1: The Raptors finalized the signing of Mykhailiuk on Tuesday, according to NBA.com’s official transactions log. As Michael Scotto of HoopsHype tweets, the two-year deal is worth the minimum salary.
AUGUST 28: The Raptors have reached a two-year agreement with free agent Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. The deal was confirmed by his agency, Sports International Group.
The contract will include a player option for the second season, according to Charania (Twitter link), who states that several contenders were interested in signing the 24-year-old swingman.
Mykhailiuk finished last season with the Thunder after being acquired from the Pistons in March. He averaged career-best numbers with 10.3 PPG and 3.0 RPG in 30 games with Oklahoma City while shooting 43.8% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range. He was originally a restricted free agent, but became unrestricted when OKC pulled his qualifying offer.
Mykhailiuk was selected by the Lakers with the 47th pick in the 2018 draft and was traded to Detroit midway through his rookie season.
Once the signing becomes official, Toronto will be up to 19 players, one short of the roster limit heading into camp. The Raptors now have 12 players with guaranteed contracts and both two-way slots filled.
Nice!! Like this signing. Raptors needed some shooting and got a young guy with upside
He can’t shoot for his life!
36% from 3-point range for his career isn’t that bad.
Good morning GreenWood Porter, I don’t know if you live in Houston or not but please stay out of harms way during this coming storm. You’ll probably be getting some pretty decent wind and rain in your area. Be safe and Godspeed.
Actually we’re well clear of Ida here, Houston’s about 350 miles to the west of the Big Easy and on the clean side of the storm, but your concern is appreciated. It’s not looking good over there on the anniversary of Katrina, but hopefully the devastation won’t be as bad this time.
Yes hopefully. I just saw on the news that the winds increased to category 4 overnight. Yikes not again.
I have a buddy who lives in the Houston area by Kemah and NASA down the 45 and visit him at least once a year. I’ve been there through a couple of storms where the wind freaked me out but nothing at Hurricane level.
Good signing. I like his game and shooting. Could be a Joe Harris type guy in a few years. Needs more PT though.
Sviiiiiiiiii!!!!
Has sisters named iiiiiiiiii!!!!v.
If Svi gets good and becomes a rotation player, does Casey make another claim on his expertise on producing impact NBA players like he did with Siakam, (he did not).
Was 1 of the remaining few guys I mentioned they should add a couple of weeks ago. E’twan Moore, Garrison Matthews, Svi Mykhailiuk, Glenn Robinson III was the list. They needed 1 more shooter, and they got him. They’re going to be extremely dangerous, in my opinion, depending on how they use all of their versatile defenders.
I could see them maybe adding Isaiah Hartenstein to complete their roster, but they dont really need another big. Maybe a veteran depth pg is the play, but they have some options there in case of injuries, so they could also just leave that spot open
Yes there seems to be a shortage of those backup quality point guard ball handling types. Probably several teams looking for a guy like that, with the Warriors being one of them.
GS doesn’t have any roster spots though. I’m assuming they’re keeping Gary Payton II. For Toronto, I could see someone like Teague, or even Isaiah Thomas actually making sense for them b/c of their defenders, and length around them
There’s no way Gary Payton makes the team. They’re on the lookout but I’m sure when Ben Simmons becomes available they’ll shoot for that at the lower price of Wiggins plus a first-round pick plus maybe one young guy.
Well, based on who is currently on the team, Payton makes the most sense. They dont have the assets for Simmons, in my opinion, and I’m not sure what the roster would look like in a scenario where they somehow do land him. If Payton isnt the guy, then maybe Shaq Harrison or Frank Ntilikina, or maybe Jeremiah Martin would be the right play, but I think they stick with Payton
We shall see.. you could be right.
The Warriors don’t seem like they are going to start the season with 15 players, so both Payton and Mulder should get cut. They could always find another PG (with Chiozza) to fill their other 2-way slot.
