SEPTEMBER 7: The Nets have officially signed Morris, the team announced today in a press release. As previously reported, Morris’ new deal is said to be non-guaranteed.
AUGUST 30: The Nets will add veteran forward Markieff Morris on a one-year contract, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Morris spent last season with the Heat, but appeared in just 17 games after suffering a neck injury. He averaged 7.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per night and likely would have played a much larger role if he hadn’t been hurt.
Brooklyn will be the seventh NBA team for Morris, who entered the league in 2011. He has become mainly a bench player over the past four years and was an effective reserve for the Lakers during his last healthy season in 2020/21.
Morris, who signed minimum-salary deals with both L.A. and Miami, will likely get the same arrangement from the Nets. He may be seen as a replacement for LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin, who both remain unsigned.
Once Morris’ signing becomes official, Brooklyn will have 13 players with fully guaranteed contracts. Edmond Sumner‘s deal is partially guaranteed and Yuta Watanabe‘s is non-guaranteed.
#FOE
This was expected. I hope he can provide good minutes and spacing.
Tired of this fake tough guy and his brother. I hope he learned his lesson from the Jokic shove.
why are you tired of his brother? Cuz they look alike?
I think u might’ve unintentionally stumbled into the #CommentOfTheDay. Or maybe it was intentional. Man that would be unexpected and refreshing
This dude wants to be seen so bad. Is the comment of the day usually your nonsensical rankings of sitcoms?
1.Simpsons 2.It’s Always Sunny in Philly 3.Atlanta 4.Peep Show 5.Seinfeld… nothing nonsensical about that
Any one know what “It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia” is a reference to?
The amazing show
I mean how they got that name
Go ask Wikipedia
Seinfeld is way more popular than the rest except for the Simpsons
Oh, it was intentional.
Besides being the second best big man in the game dokic blindsides the man and who’s the fake tough guy chumley.
Turnabout is fair play. One cheap shot deserves another.
sure, as long as they’re both labeled as cheap shot artists and not just one of them.
The guy who started it deserves the label. They guy that retaliated doesn’t.
Anyone who hit someone from behind is by definition a cheap shot artist.
I found this conversation amusing when it happened the first time and I still do. Some people love to pick heroes and villains, even when no heroes exist.
Jokic agrees with me btw. “It’s a stupid play. I feel bad,” Jokic said. “I’m not supposed to react that way”
I disagree. He lost his temper in the spur of the moment and reacted without thinking. While Morris knew exactly what he was doing.
So we’re just pretending it’s ok for a 300+ pound dude to come at people from behind at full speed and nail them in the spine?
I said nothing about it being “OK”, but it’s completely understandable when Jokic got knocked off his feet sideways by Morris’ flagrant 2 that he’d react.
It’s ok to say its understandable as long as you acknowledge it was an obvious cheap shot. If you don’t it’s a bias.
@Odd
You mean Jokic or you’re trying to be funny? Either way, once you take the first dirty shot you don’t deserve the benefit of a heads up retaliation. Im giving back what you give and more. It was a dirty play that could’ve ended much worse for Jokic.
Ain’t nothing fake about him or his brother. What’s fake is a person like you hiding behind a computer talking negative about people you don’t know.
It’s a really good pickup. He’s going to add depth size veteran leadership and toughness to a team that desperately needs it.
NON-GUARANTEED one-year deal
Will he pass the physical? The fact that the deal isn’t guaranteed gives the Nets a nother out as well.
I’m surprised he agreed to that.
They needed defense at his positions, but he doesnt do the things they need there…
It sucks that the dirty play Jokic did to him ruined his career he will bounce back.
He was a bum already
This is a fun thread. Made my morning p00p even more enjoyable.
You gotta sit there a while and grind it out? What a drag.
Glad to see he regained the use of his legs and awoke from that coma. True comeback story. Probably need to do a 30 for 30 or even a 60-minutes series on his stuggle.
Struggle*
Somehow I think that while the Heat publicly tried to bring him back, they really didn’t want him back because of the way he instigated the Jokic thing. Now the Heat play hardball no doubt ever since Pat Riley first came here, but they don’t really go over the top like Morris did.
I could be wrong, but I always wondered about his locker room support from teammates and defending him about Jokic’s retaliation – both on the court and after. If anyone thinks I’m reading more into it than I should, I ask this. What do you think would’ve happened on the court if Udonis Haslem was nailed like that by Jokic?
I will say that I do wish Morris the best, and hope he is physically well.
