Adam Morrison

Blazers Sign Demonte Harper, Dallas Lauderdale

The Trail Blazers have added Demonte Harper and Dallas Lauderdale to their training camp roster, the team announced today (Twitter link). The Blazers also made their signing of Adam Morrison official, bring their roster count to 18 players.

Harper, 23, was part of the Nuggets' summer league roster in July, having gone undrafted out of Morehead State in 2011. In his senior year, the 6'4" guard averaged 15.5 PPG, shooting 37.3% from three-point range. Lauderdale, meanwhile, played his college ball at Ohio State and also went undrafted a year ago. The big man played for the Warriors' summer league squad in Vegas.

Harper, Lauderdale, and Morrison are all likely competing with Sasha Pavlovic to earn the final roster spot, since Portland's other 14 players are on guaranteed contracts.

Blazers Sign Adam Morrison

The Blazers have signed Adam Morrison to a one-year, make-good deal, agent Mark Bartelstein tells Sam Amick of SI.com (via Twitter).  The camp invitation was first reported by Joe Freeman of the Oregonian (via Twitter).

The former third-overall pick last appeared in the Association with the Lakers in 2009/10 where he saw 7.8 minutes of action per contest in 31 games.  Morrison hooked on with the Nets' summer league team a few months back and made a strong impression on the club, but ultimately could not secure a deal.  The former Gonzaga standout then finished out the 2012 summer league period with the Clippers where he averaged 20 PPG and 5 RPG across five games.

Odds & Ends: Bucks, Thabeet, Redd

A few Monday afternoon odds and ends from around the NBA:

Odds & Ends: Sixers, Adam Morrison, Earl Watson

With the Olympics set to get underway less than a week from now, Carlos Delfino remains unsigned even though he's talked to a few different teams about employment for next season. The Bucks, however, have not made any contact with the Argentinean swingman and that upsets Delfino. "I expected to have at least a conversation [with Milwaukee]," Delfino told HoopsHype. "I ended up aggravating my injury because I wanted to play with the Bucks. It hurts me a little bit that they have not even reached out to me. Let's check in around the league on the latest news and stories making headlines…

  • The Sixers are confident that they made the right decisions this offseason to improve their roster heading into the 2012/13 season, writes Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. Key additions include Nick Young, Dorell Wright and Kwame Brown while Elton Brand, Jodie Meeks and Lou Williams will be playing elsewhere next season.
  • Don't expect to see Adam Morrison on the Clippers' roster next season as he's not playing at the level of an NBA player, predicts Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld (via Twitter). Morrison did managed to score 22 points and grab four rebounds in a summer league victory over the Lakers on Thursday.
  • Even though Earl Watson is still months away from being able to play basketball, he's keeping himself a part of the Jazz team by visiting the squad at the Orlando Summer League, writes Brian T. Smith of The Salt Lake Tribune. This is nothing new for the guard as he dressed for a playoff game against the Spurs in May even though he was on crutches.

Odds & Ends: Lin, Drummond, Joseph, Cavaliers

With ongoing uncertainty surrounding Jeremy Lin's tenure with the Knicks, ESPNNewYork.com's Jared Zwerling took the liberty of comparing the former Harvard point guard's skill set with the incoming Raymond Felton, who was acquired in a sign-and-trade with Portland last night. According to a few advanced statistics it's evident that Lin would be the better basketball option for New York, but the decision to let him go would be more of a financial one.

As we dig into this Sunday afternoon, here are a few more tidbits from around the league.

Odds & Ends: Hornets, Nash, Magic, Bucks

The good news keeps coming for the Hornets in what's been a very successful offseason so far. Not only are they set to draft Anthony Davis on Thursday, but they've cleared out their two biggest contracts, and now, according to Jimmy Smith of the New Orleans Times Picayune, they're set to announce a new TV deal. Smith reports that the Hornets' new deal will be on a cable network called Fox Sports New Orleans, and will pay the team roughly $10MM annually for the next ten years. It could be announced as soon as today, says Smith.

Adam Morrison Seeking NBA Comeback

Former third overall pick Adam Morrison hasn't played an NBA game since April 2010, but he hopes to change that this fall, as he tells Fred Kerber of the New York Post. Morrison is participating in a Nets' mini-camp this week, in an attempt to earn an NBA contract.

"I understand I’m never going to shake being a bust or being a failure in some people’s eyes," Morrison told Kerber. "I’ve experienced a lot of highs in basketball, so I guess you could call it a hardship, but it’s really not. I get to play basketball for money. That’s pretty good."

After being drafted by the Bobcats, Morrison also saw some playing time with the Lakers, but failed to crack the Wizards' roster in the 2010/11 preseason. Most recently, the Gonzaga product played overseas for Besiktas in Turkey.

The Nets expressed interest in Morrison two years ago, but an ankle injury derailed any chance he had of signing in New Jersey. However, Nets GM Billy King watched Morrison at the team's mini-camp yesterday, and offered a few encouraging comments.

"He knows how to play. Unfortunately he didn’t have a point guard who could find him because he came off screens open," King said. "But he knows how to set himself up, come off screens. He didn’t make some shots early, but he got them to go. One thing, we know he can do that."

Atlantic Rumors: Woodson, Thorn, Nets, Morrison

The Celtics took a 3-2 lead in their series with the Sixers tonight with a 101-85 victory in Game 5. There's plenty happening off the court for Atlantic Division teams as well, so let's dive in:

  • The Knicks and interim coach Mike Woodson are nearing agreement on a long-term deal, writes Newsday's Al Iannazzone. The deal could become official in the next couple days.
  • Sixers president Rod Thorn has no intention of retiring, as Tom Moore of phillyBurbs.com writes, denying a report to the contrary Sunday by the Philadelphia Inquirer that said coach Doug Collins would take over for Thorn, with assistant coach Michael Curry replacing Collins.
  • The Nets held a minicamp for free agents who didn't play in the NBA this past season, headlined by 2006 No. 3 overall pick Adam Morrison, as Colin Stephenson of The Star-Ledger and Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv note. Morrison and others at the camp, like Al Thornton, Hilton Armstrong and Julian Wright could wind up on Brooklyn's summer league team and audition for an invitation to join the Nets in training camp.
  • Deron Williams, who was at Nets facilities this weekend as the team worked out draft prospects, was present again during today's free agent minicamp, fueling speculation he'll re-sign with the team, as Zagoria chronicles.
