Free Agent Notes: Whiteside, Anderson, Foote

With the 2012/13 basketball season fast approaching both in North America and overseas, players still on the free agent market are looking to find jobs within the next few weeks. Here's the latest on a handful of players still in search of employment:

The Timberwolves were "encouraged" by Hassan Whiteside's workout yesterday, but haven't decided whether to offer him a contract, tweets Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500.
Kevin Anderson, who played his college ball at the University of Richmond, worked out with the Cavaliers this week, according to Emiliano Carchia of Sportando. After going undrafted in 2011, Anderson played in France last season.
Jeff Foote had a brief NBA stint last season when the Hornets signed him to a 10-day contract, but he'll be heading overseas for the coming season. Lithiuanian team Zalgiris Kaunas announced today that they've signed the big man out of Cornell (translation via Sportando).
In a piece for Ridiculous Upside, Gino Pilato says Allen Iverson, who still wants to return to the NBA, should consider playing in the D-League.

Hornets Sign Jeff Foote To 10-Day Contract

The Hornets have signed center Jeff Foote to a 10-day contract, according to Jim Eichenhofer of Hornets.com (via Twitter). Foote will replace Solomon Jones on the roster, after New Orleans decided not to sign Jones for the rest of the season when his second 10-day deal expired.

Foote, 24, was a training camp invitee for the Trail Blazers in December, but didn't make the team. The former Cornell big man has spent the season playing for the D-League's Springfield Armor, averaging 14.8 PPG and 8.6 RPG in 29 games.

David Pick of Eurobasket.com first reported that the Hornets would bring Foote aboard, while John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune added that it would be a 10-day signing.

Former Cornell center Jeff Foote, currently with the D-League's Springfield Armor, will be called up by the New Orleans Hornets, according to Eurobasket.com's David Pick (link via Twitter).
Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears reports (via Twitter) that Kareem Rush has entered the D-League player pool. Rush last played with the Clippers in 2009.
