And-Ones: Ball Brothers, Creek, Diaw, P. Jackson

The Ball brothers – Lonzo Ball, LaMelo Ball, and LiAngelo Ball – intend to sign with Roc Nation Sports for representation, LaMelo’s manager Jermaine Jackson tells Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Lonzo had previously been represented by CAA, but parted ways with the agency earlier this year. Now, he appears set to make the move to Roc Nation along with his two younger brothers, including LaMelo, who is one of the top prospects in the 2020 draft.

“This was a family decision,” Jackson told ESPN. “… We talked to several agents, but the family had good vibes with Roc Nation. I’ve known Jay-Z since I played for the Knicks, but this is what the kids wanted to do. Jay-Z is a master at what he does. He’s global. It’s power beyond power.”

While Jay-Z launched Roc Nation Sports in 2013, he obviously won’t be the one handling basketball matters for the Ball brothers. Veteran agent Raymond Brothers will be the Balls’ lead agent at Roc Nation, according to Givony.

Australian forward Mitch Creek, who spent this past season in Australia after appearing in five games for the Nets and Timberwolves in 2018/19, was in “advanced talks” with a Western Conference team this winter, says Shayne Hope of The Australian Associated Press. However, as Hope explains, a knee injury and the coronavirus pandemic ultimately derailed Creek’s plans to return stateside.
Former NBA forward Boris Diaw has stepped down from his position as president of French team Metropolitans 92, the club announced in a press release (French link; hat tip to Sportando). The team suggested in its announcement that difficulties arose this season in the way the club operated and Diaw’s relationship to certain members of the executive board.

Mitch Creek Headed Back To Australia

Swingman Mitch Creek, who finished last season with the Timberwolves, will return to Australia next season and play for South East Melbourne Phoenix, according to a post on the Melbourne team’s website.

The Australian team will be making its franchise debut in the country’s National Basketball League this year.

“Mitch was the club’s first signing,” head coach Simon Mitchell said.

Creek signed a standard contract to finish out last season with Minnesota after his 10-day contract expired in April. He also had a pair of 10-day contracts with the Nets last season.

He scored six points in 12 minutes in his lone appearance with the Timberwolves. He played in four games with Brooklyn, averaging 3.8 PPG and 2.5 RPG in 9.0 MPG.

He appeared in seven summer league games at Las Vegas for the Timberwolves earlier this month. He averaged 11.1 PPG and 4.3 RPG in 25.7 MPG.

“I did everything humanly possible to make my NBA dream come true and have no regrets,” Creek said.

Creek led Adelaide to the 2017-18 NBL Grand Final series against Melbourne United and was the leading rebounder in the series with 8.7 RPG.

Wolves Sign Mitch Creek For Remainder Of Season

3:11pm: The Timberwolves have officially re-signed Creek, per NBA.com’s transactions log. The team continues to carry 16 players via the league’s hardship provision.

10:32am: Minnesota will sign Mitch Creek for the remainder of the season, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Creek signed a 10-day deal with the team during the last week in March, though he has not yet played in a game for the Timberwolves. The shooting guard had two 10-day contracts earlier this season with the Nets, seeing action in four games.

The Wolves have two games remaining this season. They take on the Raptors tonight before clashing with the Nuggets on Wednesday.

Wolves Sign Mitch Creek To 10-Day Deal

8:22pm: The signing is official, the Timberwolves confirmed in a tweet.

11:44am: The Timberwolves are working on a 10-day deal for Mitch Creek, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reports (Twitter link). Minnesota has been hit with a rash of injuries in the backcourt and Creek may get a chance to see playing time with the team.

Creek signed two 10-day deals with Brooklyn earlier this season. He saw action in four games, scoring just 3.8 points per contest.

The shooting guard most recently played for the Long Island Nets of the G League. Creek also has an extensive international resume with China and Australia among his prior stops.

Minnesota has a full 15-man roster, but should qualify to add an extra player via the hardship provision, since the team has at least four players – Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, Jeff Teague, and Robert Covington – sidelined with long-term injuries. Assuming the team is granted a hardship exception, no corresponding roster move will be needed to clear room for Creek.

Here are Thursday’s assignments and recalls from around the NBA G League:

The Rockets have assigned center Isaiah Hartenstein to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, G League affiliate of the team. Hartenstein was drafted by Houston with the No. 43 pick in 2017.
The Nets assigned Mitch Creek to their G League team in Long Island, the team announced. Brooklyn waived Creek later in the day, with the 26-year-old being re-acquired by Long Island shortly afterward.
The Hornets have assigned Dwayne Bacon and Devonte’ Graham to the Greensboro Swarm, general manager Mitch Kupchak announced today. Both players have bounced back and forth from the G League and the Hornets this season.

Nets Release Forward Mitch Creek

The Nets have released Australian forward Mitch Creek from his 10-day contract, the team’s PR department tweets.

Brooklyn had to open up a roster spot in order to finalize a trade with the Raptors for Greg Monroe, even though it doesn’t plan to keep the veteran center. The Nets received a future second-rounder as part of that reported deal.

Creek was signed to a second 10-day contract with the Nets on Monday.

The 26-year-old Creek spent most of his professional career with the Adelaide 36ers in Australia. He played for the Mavericks in Summer League, the Nets in the preseason, and the G League’s Long Island Nets for most of the 2018/19 campaign until signing his first 10-day contract with Brooklyn on January 25.

Creek appeared in four games with the Nets, averaging 3.8 PPG and 2.5 RPG in 9.0 MPG.

Here are Monday’s assignments and recalls from the G League:

The Nets assigned forward Mitch Creek to the Long Island Nets, then recalled him and rookie Dzanan Musa in time for tonight’s game against Milwaukee, Brian Lewis of the New York Post tweets. Musa scored 26 points and Creek added 15 in Long Island’s loss to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Monday afternoon. Creek signed a second 10-day contract on Monday morning.
The Celtics recalled rookie big man Robert Williams from the Maine Red Claws, the team’s PR department tweets. The first-round pick has appeared in 22 games with Boston this season.
The Rockets assigned forward Gary Clark to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle tweets. Clark has appeared in 36 games with the Rockets, including one start, averaging 2.9 PPG and 2.6 RPG in 14.6 MPG.

Nets Sign Mitch Creek To Second 10-Day Deal

After his 10-day contract with the Nets expired overnight, Australian forward Mitch Creek has re-signed with the club on a second 10-day deal, Brooklyn announced this morning in a press release.

The new pact will keep Creek under contract through February 13, at which point the Nets will have to decide whether to re-sign him for the season or let him go. A player can sign no more than two 10-day contracts with the same team in a given league year.

Creek, 26, arrived stateside in 2018 after spending most of his professional career with the Adelaide 36ers in Australia. He played for the Mavericks in Summer League, the Nets in the preseason, and the G League’s Long Island Nets for most of the 2018/19 campaign until signing with Brooklyn on January 25.

While Creek didn’t see much action during his first 10 days in the NBA, averaging 2.3 PPG and 1.7 RPG in three games (6.7 MPG), the Nets apparently liked what they saw. Brooklyn will have him fill the club’s 15th and final roster spot for at least the next week and a half.

Nets Notes: Napier, A. Davis, Creek

The Nets have a big vacancy to fill until Spencer Dinwiddie gets back from a thumb injury in March and will give third-string point guard Shabazz Napier the opportunity to do so. As Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes, Napier has already seen his role increase.

Napier has scored over 18 points in each of his last three matchups and established himself as a potent downhill threat that Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson plans on utilizing in pick-and-roll situations.

Another option for Atkinson with Dinwiddie sidelined is two-way guard Theo Pinson. Pinson made a splash in his first taste of extensive action but will need to polish his jump shot if he hopes to be more than a glue guy.

There’s more out of Brooklyn:

The Nets are quietly confident that they could convince Anthony Davis to re-sign should they end up with him on their roster ahead of his 2020 free agency, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes, but that doesn’t mean going out and acquiring him is the franchise’s best move. The Nets, Lewis says, wouldn’t likely be able to trade for Davis without decimating their young core.
After playing professionally in Australia since 2010, Mitch Creek decided to sign a G League contract in hopes of earning himself an an NBA contract. That gamble paid off this week when the 26-year-old made his debut with the Nets after signing a 10-day contract. “If I played this entire G League season and didn’t get a call up then nothing changes. I’d be proud and I could go home with my head held high. Now it’s just the icing on the cake right now,” Creek told Tom Dowd of the Nets’ official site.
It’s been a breakout fourth season for Nets guard D’Angelo Russell and much of the credit for that goes to Brooklyn’s head coach Kenny Atkinson. “I give him a lot of credit for the teaching moments,” Russel said, per an Associated Press report. “My knowledge and IQ has really rose to another level just from learning from my mistakes and him breaking it down and us [dissecting] the film together.” Russell is averaging a career best 19.5 points per game and has put himself firmly in the All-Star reserve conversation.

Nets Sign Mitch Creek To 10-Day Contract

The Nets have filled the open spot on their 15-man roster, announcing today in a press release that they’ve signed Australian forward Mitch Creek to a 10-day contract, promoting him from their G League affiliate in Long Island.

Creek, a longtime standout wing for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia, averaged 14.8 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 2.5 APG in 31 games for the 36ers last season, earning a spot on the All-NBL Second Team. During the 2018 offseason, he elected to pursue his NBA dreams, joining the Mavericks for Summer League play and then the Nets for training camp.

Although he didn’t make Brooklyn’s regular season roster, Creek landed with the club’s G League affiliate and has played well for the Long Island Nets, averaging 14.4 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 2.2 APG with a .548 FG% in 25 games.

Creek will get at least a 10-day audition for the NBA club, filling the roster opening created when Brooklyn waived Kenneth Faried last week.
