Nets Close To Deal With Mohammed

THURSDAY, 6:43pm: The Nets will entertain Mohammed this weekend and are likely to sign him soon after, tweets David Aldridge of TNT.

WEDNESDAY, 6:46pm: The Nets are close to signing free agent center Nazr Mohammed, a source tells Alex Kennedy of Hoops World (via Twitter).  The big man will likely sign for the veteran's minimum in the next 24 hours.

Mohammed, 34, logged just 11.0 minutes per contest in 2011/12, his lowest in a healthy season since 1999/00.  For his career, the veteran has averaged 6.6 PPG and 5.2 RPG across his 13-year career.  Last night, David Aldridge of TNT suggested that the Nets' next move could be to sign a backup center like Mohammed or Ryan Hollins.

Free Agent Rumors: Timberwolves, Rush, Mills

While a number of solid rotation players are still available, the market is rapidly thinning for teams in search of starters. As clubs continue to jockey to sign the remaining available players, we'll track many of today's free agent rumors right here:

There are possible extensions to negotiate with James Harden and Serge Ibaka, and the team must decide what it wants to do with backup center Nazr Mohammed, who fell out of the rotation in the playoffs and is now an unrestricted free agent. Jazz GM Kevin O'Connor has plenty of work to do as well, and we have news about both teams.

Money Time: Upcoming Free Agents In The Playoffs

Three of the four conference finalists should return next season with their rosters largely intact, as the Thunder, Heat and Spurs all have at least eight players with fully guaranteed contracts for next season. This week, we'll expand our look at free agents in the playoffs to include players with option years and non-guaranteed deals for 2012/13, and next week we'll wrap it up by identifying the free agents who've had the best and worst postseasons overall.
