Contract Details: Raptors, Bucks, Knicks, Spurs

The Raptors officially announced earlier today that their deal with undrafted free agent Jarrod Uthoff is done, and Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders has the details on that agreement. As Pincus outlines, it’s a two-year, minimum-salary pact with a $50K guarantee in year one. If Uthoff earns a spot on the regular-season roster and remains on the team beyond January 10, his first-year salary will become guaranteed. In that scenario, he’d have $100K of his 2017/18 salary guaranteed if he’s still on the roster past next July 25.

Pincus has specifics on a few more contracts from around the NBA, so let’s round up some of those updates…

Second-round pick Malcolm Brogdon received a three-year deal with the Bucks that will be worth more than the minimum for the first two years. Those first two years are also fully guaranteed, per Pincus, who suggests that the total three-year value is just below $3MM.
The Knicks formally signed undrafted rookie Ron Baker to a one-year contract on Monday, and the guaranteed portion of that deal is worth $75K, according to Pincus.
Argentinian forward Patricio Garino got a two-year, minimum-salary deal from the Spurs that includes a $100K guarantee in its first year, Pincus reports. San Antonio should have a roster spot or two open heading into the season, so it’s worth noting that other players contending for those openings have slightly guarantees that are slightly higher (Bryn Forbes, $125K) or lower (Ryan Arcidiacono, $75K) than Garino’s.

Spurs Sign Patricio Garino

1:34pm: The Spurs have issued a press release officially announcing the signing.

12:55pm: The Spurs have reached an agreement on a partially-guaranteed deal for Argentinian forward Patricio Garino, a source tells Orazio Cauchi of Sportando. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical (Twitter links) confirms that San Antonio is signing Garino, noting that the George Washington product is playing in the Olympics this summer alongside Spurs veteran Manu Ginobili.

Garino, 23, spent four years at George Washington, increasing his production in each season. In 2015/16, the 6’7″ forward averaged 14.1 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 1.4 SPG, and 0.8 BPG while shooting 43.0% on three-point attempts.

The Spurs hold the NBA draft rights to many international players, and signed a couple of them already this month, locking up Livio Jean-Charles and Davis Bertans. However, Garino was an undrafted free agent, who was free to sign with any team. According to Cauchi, the newest Spur received interest from teams in Spain, Germany, and Italy as well.

Terms of Garino’s new deal aren’t known, but based on San Antonio’s cap limitations, a two-year, minimum-salary contract seems likely.

Draft Notes: Maker, Luwawu, Cordinier

Here’s the latest news and notes regarding the 2016 NBA Draft, which will be held in Brooklyn, New York next Thursday:

The Nuggets have a group workout scheduled on Friday for Ryan Arcidiacono (Villanova), Isaia Cordinier (France), Petr Cornelie (France) and Majok Deng (Louisiana-Monroe), the team announced via press release.
Denver held an individual workout today for swingman Timothe Luwawu, the team announced. The Frenchman averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals in 31.1 minutes for Mega Leks of the Serbian League this past season.
The Hornets have a group workout scheduled for Friday with Thon Maker (Australia), Marcus Paige (North Carolina), Joel Bolomboy (Weber State), Patricio Garino (George Washington) and Melvin Johnson (VCU), Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops relays (via Twitter).
Former Auburn small forward Tyler Harris has a workout scheduled with the Raptors on Sunday, Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv relays (Twitter link).

And-Ones: Carlesimo, Kings, Lee

The Sixers intend to hire former NBA head coach P.J. Carlesimo as lead assistant on Brett Brown‘s staff, David Aldridge of NBA.com relays (via Twitter). Carlesimo, 66, will replace Mike D’Antoni, who is reportedly set to become the Rockets‘ new head coach. His last post in the league was with the Nets during the 2012/13 campaign, when he took over for fired coach Avery Johnson but was let go after the team was eliminated by Chicago in the first round of the playoffs that season. Carlesimo has a career regular season record of 239-315 and a postseason mark of 6-13.

The Kings have pre-draft workouts scheduled for May 31st with Roscoe Allen (Stanford), Bryn Forbes (Michigan State), Nikola Jovanovic (USC), Manny Malou (Yuba College), Patricio Garino (George Washington) and Majok Deng (Louisiana Monroe), the team announced.
The reported hiring of David Fizdale as head coach signals that the Grizzlies are looking ahead to their future rather than adding a coach who is geared more toward the current crop of players, Chris Herrington of The Commercial Appeal writes. The scribe also analyzes the team’s offseason ahead, noting that Memphis will likely target depth at guard in the draft and mentions Wade Baldwin, Tyler Ulis and Demetrius Jackson as potential draftees this June.
The Mavericks expect the positive experience that David Lee had with the organization this season will aid it in recruiting free agents this offseason, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com writes. “You know, we acquired David Lee two months ago. I don’t remember the exact date, but when you acquire a player like that that’s been a two-time All-Star and has been in some successful organizations, you know, you want him to have a great experience,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “He did, and he helped us get to the playoffs. We wouldn’t have got to the playoffs without David Lee, and the word spreads. You know, veterans like him know other veterans, and the word gets out that Dallas is a high-level organization. And we take great pride in that.”
