Jeff Caplan of ESPNDallas.com looks at how the Mavs point guards line up behind presumptive starter Darren Collison. Delonte West should serve as a solid backup to Collison as Rodrigue Beaubois continues to learn the position.
Jae Crowder, the 34th overall pick in this year's draft, isn't guaranteed a roster spot with the Mavs, even though he's already signed to a deal, as Earl K. Sneed writes on Mavs.com. Nonetheless, his impressive summer league stint gives him hope of cracking the rotation at either forward spot.
The Hornets have cut ties with numerous members of their respective broadcast teams as new owner Tom Benson wants to take the franchise in a new direction, writes John Reid of The Times Picayune. The latest to go include longtime television play-by-play announcer Bob Licht and analyst Gil McGregor.

Smith’s Latest: Celtics, DeRozan, Daye, Beaubois

After previewing the Bulls' upcoming matchups with Eastern Conference contenders, Sam Smith of Bulls.com checks in on some rumors from around the league. Here are a few highlights from Smith's latest column:

Celtics talk should pick up over the next week and a half, but Smith wonders if, rather than trading Rajon Rondo or the Big Three, GM Danny Ainge could try to move Brandon Bass to clear more cap space for two major free agents this summer.
DeMar DeRozan "isn't as untouchable as once believed," writes Smith. Given DeRozan's lack of improvement this season, that isn't a huge surprise, but I doubt the Raptors would sell low on him.
Austin Daye has played just over six minutes in the Pistons' last eight games, and Smith thinks he could be an intriguing gamble for some team, if Detroit makes him available.
According to Smith, if the Mavericks want to create summer cap space by moving Shawn Marion's contract either during or after the season, packaging him with Rodrigue Beaubois could make it easier to find a taker. The 24-year-old Beaubois has averaged 13.8 points and 2.0 steals per game in four games since the All-Star break.

Kyler On Rondo, Diaw, Mavs, Ellis, Scola

The general belief is that Rajon Rondo will remain a Celtic past March 15th unless Boston is blown away by an offer.
Bobcats sources say the team has received inquiries on Boris Diaw, who has an expiring contract worth $9MM.
Sources close to the Mavericks say the team views Rodrigue Beaubois and Dominique Jones as "possible sweeteners" in an offseason sign-and-trade deal for Dwight Howard or Deron Williams.
If the Warriors decide to move Monta Ellis, any deal may have to include a contract like David Lee's or Andris Biedrins' as well. According to Kyler's sources, the Warriors offered Ellis to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala at the start of the season.
Concerns about Luis Scola's knees may make it tough for the Rockets to find full value for him on the trade market.

Cuban: Mavs Not Looking To Deal, But Will Listen

While the Mavericks' plan to clear as much cap space as possible this summer isn't exactly a well-concealed secret, owner Mark Cuban says the team could make a move that would compromise that approach, under one circumstance:

"Priority number one is to win a championship,'' Cuban told reporters, including Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News. "If there's something that takes up cap room, but puts us over the top, I'm in. We're going to be opportunistic. If it's something good, we'll take advantage of it."

Cuban added that the team isn't looking to make a move, but that the Mavs would certainly be listening if a team made them the right offer. As Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas writes, the Mavs owner also dismissed a recent rumor suggesting Rodrigue Beaubois could be available: "That’s what people in New Orleans say because they’ve always liked him."

Odds & Ends: Howard, Iverson, Beaubois, Williams

With this weekend's All-Star game serving as a major benchmark in the Dwight Howard saga, Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel breaks down what could happen, and when, once the mid-season festivities are over with. One interesting thing to note: The Magic's first game after the trade deadline is againt the Nets. If Howard is dealt there, things would get interesting in a hurry.

In a tweet, Sportando reporter Emiliano Carchia is reporting that a professional team in Puerto Rico has pulled its offer for Allen Iverson off the table.
Last night, ESPN's Chris Broussard wrote that Dallas was ready to move on from French point guard prospect Rodrigue Beaubois. Alex Raskin of Hoopsworld disputes the report by saying Beaubois still has the support of several high-ranking executives in Dallas' personnel department. Raskin cites the team's possible need to replace Jason Terry next season as a prime reason as to why the Mavericks will likely keep him.
Nets forward Shawne Williams will undergo surgery to remove a bone fragment in his left foot on Wednesday, according to the team. In his first season in New Jersey Williams has been a major disappointment, averaging just 4.5 PPG on 28.6% shooting from the three-point line after breaking out last year with the Knicks.

Broussard On Beaubois, Williams, Raps, Sessions

In addition to reporting on the Lakers' interest in Michael Beasley, ESPN.com's Chris Broussard has a number of other interesting tidbits to share in his latest column. Let's check out the highlights:

The Mavericks are "about ready to move on" from the Rodrigue Beaubois experiment. It was only a week ago that Mark Cuban insisted Beaubois remained in the team's long-term plans, but the young guard would be an intriguing trade chip. Including him in a deal for a player on an expiring contract could improve the Mavs' roster in the short-term and help clear a little extra cap space in the long-term.
Marvin Williams is frustrated with his role in Atlanta and would like to play somewhere where he could contribute more on offense.
The Raptors are receiving plenty of inquiries on Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani. Bargnani isn't likely to be moved, and the team would want a point guard in return for Calderon.
The Lakers want to see if they can trade for a point guard before giving Gilbert Arenas a shot. According to Broussard's sources, the Lakers should be able to acquire Ramon Sessions for one of their first-round picks before the deadline, if they want to pull the trigger. According to Sam Amico of FOX Sports Ohio (on Twitter), the Lakers are expected to "accelerate" their pursuit of Sessions this weekend.

Cuban: Beaubois Still In Mavs’ Long-Term Plans

Amid speculation that the Mavericks will attempt to clean house to clear cap space this summer, owner Mark Cuban tells Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas that Rodrigue Beaubois remains in the team's long-term plans.

With their sights set on offering a max deal to at least one free agent, such as Dwight Howard or Deron Williams, the Mavericks have made recent roster moves with an eye on their 2012/13 cap figure. Jason Kidd and Jason Terry are among the veterans on expiring contracts, while Shawn Marion is a trade candidate and Brendan Haywood is a candidate to be amnestied.

Beaubois, the Mavs' first-round pick in 2009, is averaging career lows in FG% (.409) and points per 36 minutes (14.6), and hasn't played in the team's last two games. Cuban suggests that Beaubois' in-game development isn't a priority for a team looking to defend its title.

"That’s what practice is for," Cuban said. "That’s why you come in and work on your game. If you want a deep team, that’s part of the price, but he’s part of our long-term plans, so there’s no rush. He’ll get plenty of minutes."

Beaubois' $2.23MM salary in 2012/13 certainly doesn't represent a huge cap hit. However, if the Mavericks hope to bid on both Howard and Williams with Dirk Nowitzki and his $20.91MM salary already on board, they figure to try to clear as many contracts as they can this summer.

When Jesse Blanchard assessed the Mavericks' stocks yesterday, he dubbed Beaubois the team's "lone intriguing young talent."
