Spurs Sign Jaylen Morris To 10-Day Contract

2:41pm: San Antonio has officially signed Morris to a 10-day deal, the team announced in a press release.

2:01pm: The Spurs are signing shooting guard Jaylen Morris to a 10-day hardship contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Morris, 26, went unselected in the 2017 NBA Draft. In 12 games with San Antonio’s G League affiliate this season, he has averaged 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 27.3 minutes, shooting 50% from the floor. He holds NBA experience with the Hawks and Bucks.

As we previously relayed, San Antonio lost Doug McDermott and Lonnie Walker to the health and safety protocols on Saturday. Star guard Dejounte Murray has cleared protocols, but the 26-year-old still needs to work on his conditioning before returning.

San Antonio has upcoming games against Detroit on Saturday, Toronto on Tuesday and Boston on Wednesday.

Mac McClung Signs Second 10-Day Deal With Bulls

2:10pm: Chicago has officially signed McClung to a second 10-day deal, the team announced on social media (Twitter link).

11:46am: The Bulls are signing guard Mac McClung to another 10-day contract under the hardship exemption, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.

McClung signed his initial 10-day on December 22. He has made just one three-minute appearance.

After going undrafted out of Texas Tech over the summer, the 22-year-old guard signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Lakers, but was waived in October before the season began. He played 13 games for L.A.’s G League affiliate in South Bay, averaging 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

The Bulls still have four players in the league’s health and safety protocols. Chicago, which is currently riding a six-game winning streak, had three COVID-related postponements in December.

Grizzlies Sign DaQuan Jeffries To 10-Day Contract

The Grizzlies have signed swingman DaQuan Jeffries under the hardship exception, the team’s PR department tweets.

He has appeared in 44 games the past two seasons with the Kings and Rockets, averaging 4.0 PPG and 2.0 RPG in 14.4 MPG.

Jeffries was playing for Atlanta’s G League team, the College Park Skyhawks, prior to signing the 10-day deal. He was averaging 15.4 PPG, 2.4 RPG and 1.6 APG in 26.6 MPG for the Skyhawks. He was waived by the Hawks during training camp before joining their G League squad.

Memphis currently has six players in the league’s health and safety protocols, including one of the players they signed to a 10-day contract.

Nuggets Sign Rayjon Tucker To 10-Day Deal

December 31: Tucker’s contract with the Nuggets is now official, the team announced.

December 30: The Nuggets plan to sign guard Rayjon Tucker to a 10-day deal via the hardship exception, a league source tells Mike Singer of The Denver Post (Twitter link). The 24-year-old Tucker spent the past 10 days on a deal with the Timberwolves, though he did not appear in a game with the team.

Tucker spent most of the 2019/20 season with the Jazz, then signed a two-way contract with the Sixers in January 2021. He appeared in a total of 34 regular season games in his first two NBA seasons, averaging a modest 2.8 PPG and 0.9 RPG in 6.7 minutes per contest.

He has averaged 17.1 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 3.1 APG in 32.2 MPG while appearing in 13 games this season for the NBA G League’s Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s affiliate.

The Nuggets had three players enter the league’s health and safety protocols on Thursday, so Tucker will be one of their replacements.

Magic Re-Sign Freddie Gillespie, Tim Frazier

6:11pm: The Magic have re-signed both Gillespie and Frazier to their second 10-day contracts via a hardship exception, the team’s PR department tweets. Frazier has averaged 4.6 PPG, 1.8 RPG, and 3.4 APG in five games with the club (20 MPG).

7:02am: The Magic intend to sign Freddie Gillespie to a second 10-day contract using a hardship exception, our JD Shaw reports (via Twitter). Gillespie’s first 10-day deal with the club expired overnight.

Playing a part-time role for an Orlando squad hit hard by COVID-19, Gillespie averaged 3.0 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 1.0 BPG in five games (12.8 MPG) this month. It was the 24-year-old’s second stint in the NBA, as he appeared in 20 games with the Raptors as a rookie during the 2020/21 season.

The Magic’s COVID situation remains fluid — the team still has five players in the health and safety protocols, but one (Mychal Mulder) entered the protocols on December 22 and another (Mohamed Bamba) went in on Dec. 17, so hopefully they’ll be cleared soon.

There are currently two players – Hassani Gravett and Admiral Schofield – on active 10-day deals with the Magic. Gabe York reportedly reached an agreement to sign with the club, but it hasn’t been finalized yet. Tim Frazier‘s 10-day hardship contract, like Gillespie’s, expired overnight.

Knicks Re-Sign Damyean Dotson, Matt Mooney

After their initial 10-day hardship contracts expired overnight, Damyean Dotson and Matt Mooney have each signed a second 10-day deal with the Knicks, according to NBA.com’s official transactions log.

Neither Dotson nor Mooney played much during their first 10 days with New York. Dotson got into two games and logged 21 total minutes, while Mooney only made a brief cameo on Christmas Day. However, the two shooting guards provided the Knicks with some depth while they dealt with a minor COVID-19 outbreak.

New York still has four players in the health and safety protocols and Danuel House is the only other player currently on a 10-day deal with the team, so Dotson and Mooney will stick around a little longer.

Dotson will earn $102,831 over the course of his 10-day contract, while Mooney will make $85,578. Neither figure will count toward team salary for cap or tax purposes.

Cavaliers Sign Brandon Goodwin To 10-Day Deal

2:32pm: In their press release confirming the Goodwin signing, the Cavaliers announced that they terminated Scott’s 10-day contract one day early.

11:12am: The Cavaliers have signed guard Brandon Goodwin to a 10-day contract, according to NBA.com’s official transactions log. The deal will run through January 9, covering Cleveland’s next five games.

Goodwin, 26, has appeared in 97 NBA games since 2018 for Denver and Atlanta, averaging 4.7 PPG and 1.6 APG in 97 games (11.4 MPG). He had been playing for the Westchester Knicks in the G League this season, putting up 15.3 PPG, 7.0 APG, 5.1 RPG, and 1.9 SPG in seven contests (35.1 MPG) for New York’s affiliate.

The Raptors reportedly reached a deal earlier in the month to sign Goodwin, but it was never formally completed. It appeared that Goodwin didn’t pass the COVID-19 screening process at the time. However, if he did test positive for the coronavirus, he has since been cleared.

As of Thursday, the Cavaliers only had two players left in the health and safety protocols: Darius Garland and Cedi Osman. Cleveland already has two hardship additions – Tre Scott and Malik Newman – on its roster, so the signing of Goodwin means the team either ended one of those deals early or has at least one more player entering the protocols today. Scott’s 10-day deal is set to expire after tonight’s game.

Pacers Sign Ahmad Caver To 10-Day Contract

1:45pm: Caver has officially signed his 10-day contract with the Pacers, according to a press release from the team. Indiana is expected to complete another hardship signing, tweets Agness.

1:19pm: The Pacers will call up free agent guard Ahmad Caver from the G League and sign him to a 10-day contract using a hardship exception, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

A 6’2″ point guard, Caver has played for the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate, since going undrafted out of Old Dominion in 2019. After coming off the bench for the Hustle for two years, he moved into the starting lineup in 2021/22, averaging 15.4 PPG, 6.9 APG, 4.7 RPG, and 1.8 SPG on .413/.364/.818 shooting in 14 games (35.6 MPG) this season.

Entering the day, the Pacers had four players in the health and safety protocols. They’ve since added a fifth, according to Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files (Twitter link), who says Kelan Martin has tested positive for COVID-19.

Indiana has added one replacement player so far, signing Nate Hinton on Thursday. Caver is on track to be the team’s second hardship addition.

Clippers Sign Wenyen Gabriel Via Hardship Exception

1:21pm: Gabriel’s 10-day contract with the Clippers is now official, according to the team. It’ll run through January 9, covering the team’s next six games.

7:17am: Wenyen Gabriel, whose 10-day contract with the Nets expired overnight on Thursday, has lined up a new 10-day deal with the Clippers, according to Andrew Greif of The Los Angeles Times. The Clippers intend to sign Gabriel using a hardship exception and hope to have him available for Friday’s game in Toronto.

As Greif outlines, the Clippers are in need of some frontcourt help. Ivica Zubac entered the health and safety protocols on Thursday, Isaiah Hartenstein has been sidelined since December 18 due to a sprained ankle, and replacement player Moses Wright is no longer on the roster after his 10-day contract expired.

Gabriel could step into a rotation role right away for the Clippers after playing just a single minute during his 10 days with Brooklyn. The 24-year-old big man previously appeared in 51 total regular season games between 2019-21 for the Kings, Blazers and Pelicans.

The Clippers currently have three players in the COVID-19 protocols. Gabriel is on track to be the team’s third player on a 10-day contract, joining James Ennis and Xavier Moon. Ennis, like Gabriel, was with the Nets before agreeing to sign with the Clippers.

Pistons Sign Jaysean Paige To 10-Day Contract

12:45pm: The Pistons have officially signed Paige to his 10-day contract, the team announced this afternoon in a press release.

7:01am: The Pistons have reached a deal to sign point guard Jaysean Paige to a 10-day contract using a hardship exception, agent Dean Hadley tells our JD Shaw (Twitter link).

Paige, who went undrafted out of West Virginia in 2016, has spent this season so far with the Maine Celtics, averaging 16.9 PPG on .455/.366/.870 shooting in 14 games (26.2 MPG) for Boston’s G League affiliate.

Prior to this season, Paige has played for teams in Germany, North Macedonia, England, Hungary, and Puerto Rico. He also had a previous stint with Maine during the 2019/20 campaign.

The Pistons have experienced plenty of roster turnover this month, with eight players currently in the health and safety protocols. They’ve already signed seven other players to 10-day hardship deals, so Paige is on track to be the eighth.
