Grizzlies Sign Xavier Rathan-Mayes To 10-Day Contract

MARCH 5: The Grizzlies have officially signed Rathan-Mayes, the team announced today in a press release. The deal will run through March 14, next Wednesday.

MARCH 4: The Grizzlies will sign G League guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes to a 10-day contract, tweets Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Undrafted out of Florida State last summer, Rathan-Mayes joined the Knicks for training camp and was one of the team’s final cuts before the season began. He has been playing for Westchester in the G League, where he is averaging 16.6 points, 7.2 assists and 6.4 rebounds in 39 games.

The signing will bring the Grizzlies back to a full 15-player roster. They have been carrying an open spot since February 12 when they bought out Brandan Wright.

Wizards Re-Sign Ramon Sessions

Despite having his initial 10-day contract with the Wizards expire on Sunday night, point guard Ramon Sessions won’t be hitting the free agent market. According to an announcement from the team (Twitter link), Sessions has officially signed a second 10-day deal with Washington that will keep him under contract through next Wednesday.

Sessions, who will turn 32 next month, signed a 10-day contract with the Wizards after the All-Star break, giving the club some depth at point guard with John Wall still recovering from knee surgery. However, with Tomas Satoransky handling starting duties in Wall’s absence and Tim Frazier getting the backup minutes, Sessions didn’t see any action during his first 10 days with Washington.

While it’s not clear if Sessions will receive any playing time during his next 10 days with the Wizards, there’s little downside to the arrangement from the team’s perspective. Without Sessions, the club would only have 13 players on its 15-man NBA roster, one below the NBA-mandated minimum of 14 — so another signing would’ve been required if Sessions wasn’t retained.

A team is permitted to sign a player to two 10-day contracts before making a decision on that player for the rest of the season. After Sessions’ second deal expires next Wednesday night, Washington will either have to lock up the veteran for the season or sign another player to fill that 14th roster slot.

Bucks Waive Kilpatrick, Sign Shabazz Muhammad

MARCH 4th, 6:22pm: The Bucks have officially signed Muhammad, according to a team press release.

MARCH 1st, 11:14pm: The Bucks have formally waived Kilpatrick, the team announced tonight (via Twitter).

9:44pm: It’s official that the Bucks will waive Kilpatrick. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets that they’ll do so before the deadline (11:00pm CST) so that he would be playoff-eligible should he land somewhere else this season.

9:25pm: Recently bought-out swingman Shabazz Muhammad plans to commit to the Bucks when he clears waivers, Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports tweets. We wrote about the Timberwolves’ decision to part ways with the veteran earlier today.

While Matt Velasquez of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel tweets that there’s no indication what the corresponding roster move will be to make space for the signing, Darren Wolfson of 5 Eye Witness News tweets that word is it will be Sean Kilpatrick who is eventually let go. (This has since been corroborated by several writers, including ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski).

In a follow-up to his initial tweet, Charania adds that the Bucks had been interested in Muhammad back in the offseason. In September, however, the 25-year-old inked a two-year pact with the only franchise he’d ever known.

While Muhammad’s role with the Wolves has been negligible this season, he’s been a reliable source of perimeter offense at times throughout his career. Muhammad will slot in on a Bucks roster light on prototypical perimeter threats.

Clippers Sign Sean Kilpatrick To 10-Day Deal

5:30pm: The Clippers have officially signed Kilpatrick, who will be active for tonight’s game against Brooklyn.

4:14pm: The Clippers will sign recently waived guard Sean Kilpatrick to a 10-day contract, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Kilpatrick was waived by the Bucks on Friday, thus making him eligible for the postseason, Wojnarowski notes. The Clippers are one game behind the Nuggets for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

Kilpatrick, 28, has split the 2017/18 season with the Nets and Bucks. He appeared in 16 games with Brooklyn before he was waived following the Nets’ acquisition of Jahlil Okafor and Nik Stauskas. Kilpatrick then signed a two-way pact with the Bucks that was eventually converted into standard NBA contract.

In 39 games between Brooklyn and Milwaukee this season, Kilpatrick has averaged 4.4 PPG and 1.5 RPG.

Prior to the agreement with Kilpatrick, the Clippers discussed converting Tyrone Wallace‘s deal into an NBA contract. The 23-year-old was solid for Los Angeles, posting 10.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 2.5 APG in 21 games. However, the Clippers declined to extend Wallace’s deal, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times tweets.

Hawks Sign Antonius Cleveland To Second Ten-Day Deal

The Hawks have signed Antonius Cleveland to a second 10-day contract and are planning a longer relationship with the 24-year-old shooting guard, tweets Michael Cunningham of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

When the latest 10-day deal expires, Atlanta plans to sign Cleveland through the rest of this season and 2018/19, Cunningham adds.

Cleveland, a former two-way player with the Mavericks, didn’t see any game action during his first 10 days with the Hawks. He went undrafted out of Southeast Missouri State last summer and inked a training camp deal with the Warriors before getting the offer from Dallas.

The deal with Cleveland brings Atlanta’s roster back to 14 players.

Pelicans Sign Walter Lemon Jr. To Second 10-Day Deal

MARCH 2, 6:26pm: The Pelicans will sign Walt Lemon Jr. to a second 10-day contract, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic (Twitter link).

The point guard hasn’t seen much run so far for New Orleans, soaking up 14 minutes of action over his three contests with the team. He made two of his six shots from the field, scoring four points.

Lemon was a G League standout earlier this season, posting 22.7 PPG, 5.9 APG, 4.6 RPG, 2.1 SPG, and a .490 FG% with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Prior to arriving in the league, Lemon, who went undrafted in 2014, played internationally in Hungary, Germany, and Greece.

Trevor Booker Signs With Pacers

9:13pm: The signing of Booker is official, the Pacers announced on their website. “As we head into this final stretch of the season Trevor will add to the depth of our roster,” said president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard. “Not only is he a solid player and a solid team player, his character fits with our team and what we are trying to accomplish.”

MARCH 3, 2:52pm: The Pacers will not sign Trey McKinney-Jones to a second 10-day contract after his first deal expired last night, reports Michael Scotto of The Athletic. The roster spot now open will almost assuredly go to Booker, who has cleared waivers, per RealGM’s official transactions log.

FEBRUARY 28: The Sixers have yet to officially announce Trevor Booker‘s release, but it sounds like Booker’s camp has already lined up the veteran forward’s next deal. According to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype (Twitter link), Booker is expected to sign with the Pacers once he clears waivers. He’ll get a minimum salary contract with Indiana, tweets Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

As we relayed earlier this afternoon, Booker was the odd man out in Philadelphia, where the Sixers had a full 15-man roster and needed to create room to sign Ersan Ilyasova. Assuming Booker is formally waived by the 76ers today, he’ll clear waivers on Friday, and will hang onto his playoff eligibility for his new team in Indiana.

Booker, 30, had been averaging a career-low 15.0 minutes per game with the Sixers, but played well for the Nets in 89 total games in 2016 and 2017. In 24.1 MPG with Brooklyn, Booker posted 10.0 PPG, 7.8 RPG, and 2.0 APG, shooting 51.6% from the field.

Thaddeus Young is currently the Pacers’ primary power forward, with Bojan Bogdanovic occasionally seeing time at the four in small lineups and Domantas Sabonis playing there in some bigger lineups. Indiana’s other backups at the position are youngsters like T.J. Leaf and Alex Poythress, so Booker will provide some veteran depth.

As we noted earlier today, the Pacers are one of seven teams that doesn’t technically have an open roster spot, but has a player on a 10-day contract filling their 15th slot. That player – Trey McKinney-Jones – will see his 10-day deal expire Friday night, creating an open roster spot on Saturday for Indiana.

The Pacers’ cap charge for Booker will depend on what day his deal is finalized, but if he’s signed on Saturday, it will be worth approximately $333K. The Sixers, meanwhile, will continue to carry Booker’s old $9.125MM cap hit, minus whatever amount he gave up as part of his buyout.

Knicks Sign Troy Williams To Second 10-Day Deal

The Knicks have signed swingman Troy Williams to a second 10-day contract, per the team’s official public relations twitter page.

After beginning his rookie year in Memphis a season ago, Williams, 23, caught on with the Rockets at the end of the 2017/18 season and was able to parlay his performance into a three-year contract worth $1.9MM in guaranteed money, but was released earlier this year in order to make room on Houston’s roster for Joe Johnson.

He averaged 12.5 minutes, 8.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in four games during his first 10-day stint in New York, and holds career averages of 5.8 PPG and 2.2 RPG.

Suns Sign Shaquille Harrison To Second 10-Day Contract

The Suns have signed guard Shaquille Harrison to a second 10-day contract, tweets Scott Bordow of Arizona Central Sports.

Harrison, 24, went undrafted out of Tulsa in 2016 and was part of the Suns’ training camp that year. The last two seasons, Harrison has played with the organization’s G League affiliate Northern Arizona. In 36 games with Northern Arizona, he averaged 11.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 3.5 APG, and 1.9 SPG.

In five games with Phoenix this season, Harrison has averaged 1.8 PPG and 1.4 APG in limited playing time. Harrison contributed seven points and five rebounds in 18 minutes as part of the Suns’ February 28 win over the Grizzlies.

Corey Brewer Signs With Thunder

MARCH 3: Brewer’s signing with the Thunder is official, per the NBA’s official transactions log.

MARCH 1, 10:39am: Brewer has committed to sign with the Thunder once he clears waivers, tweets Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. Brewer talked to Oklahoma City coach Billy Donovan and GM Sam Presti and considered three Eastern Conference teams before deciding.

FEBRUARY 28, 6:50pm: Brewer is likely to sign with the Thunder after all, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Lakers officially waived Brewer earlier today, meaning the veteran swingman will be free to sign a contract with Oklahoma City as early as Friday.

3:03pm: One source tells David Aldridge of TNT (Twitter link) that while the Thunder are definitely in the mix for Brewer, the veteran is more likely to land with an Eastern Conference team.

10:44am: Amick (via Twitter) adds the Jazz and Pelicans to the list of teams that could also be in the mix for Brewer, noting that several of the teams he has mentioned are also keeping an eye on the Trevor Booker situation in Philadelphia.

10:28am: The Lakers and veteran swingman Corey Brewer have reportedly reached an agreement on a buyout, which means he could become a free agent as soon as Friday. When Brewer does hit the open market, a deal with the Thunder is a “serious possibility,” according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).

As Wojnarowski notes, the ex-Gator is likely to be drawn to Oklahoma City by the presence of his former coach at Florida, Billy Donovan, who is now the Thunder’s head coach. Even aside from the Donovan connection, Brewer would be a logical fit for OKC, since the team has been on the lookout for one more option on the wing since Andre Roberson‘s injury, tweets ESPN’s Royce Young.

While the Thunder may be the frontrunners for Brewer, he’ll talk to other teams too, per Wojnarowski. The 31-year-old is unlikely to rush his decision, according to Sam Amick of USA Today, who tweets that the Cavaliers, Wizards, Trail Blazers, and Bucks have also shown interest. Amick adds that Brewer – averaging a career-low 12.9 minutes per game this season – will be seeking a “legit role,” which figures to impact his decision.

Although several playoff teams have already been linked to Brewer, his mediocre outside shot (.280 career 3PT%) will limit his appeal to some contenders. For instance, he’s not likely to be a fit for the Raptors, notes Josh Lewenberg of TSN (Twitter link). Meanwhile, Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News tweets that Minnesota has “kicked the tires” on the former Timberwolf, but says not to count on a reunion.
