Kings Sign Dane Goodwin, Jake Stephens To Exhibit 10 Deals

The Kings have signed undrafted free agents Dane Goodwin and Jake Stephens to training camp contracts, per RealGM’s NBA transactions log.

According to James Ham of ESPN 1320 and TheKingsBeat.com (Twitter link), who first reported Goodwin’s signing, the former Notre Dame guard received an Exhibit 10 deal. Stephens also signed an Exhibit 10 contract, Siegel Sports & Entertainment announced (via Twitter).

A 6’6″ wing, Goodwin spent five seasons with the Fighting Irish, holding career averages of 10.8 points and 4.4 rebounds on .441/.391/.823 shooting in 158 games (94 starts, 30.5 minutes). He was allowed to play an extra “super senior” season due to the pandemic.

Stephens, meanwhile, is a 6’10” center who spent his first four college seasons at VMI prior to transferring to Chattanooga for the 2022/23 season. He had a stellar season for the Mocs, averaging 22.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 blocks on .552/.408/.820 shooting in 24 games (32.1 minutes).

A source tells Ham that Goodwin is expected to be waived and head to Stockton to play for Sacramento’s G League affiliate in ’23/24. That’s the likely outcome for Stephens as well. If both players are released, they would each be eligible for a bonus worth up to $75K if they spend at least 60 days with Stockton.

The Kings now have 20 players under contract, one shy of the preseason limit. In addition to Goodwin and Stephens, they have 14 players on guaranteed standard deals, Jaylen Nowell on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deal, and all three two-way slots filled.

Glenn Robinson III Signs Exhibit 10 Deal With Bucks

2:10pm: The signing is official, according to RealGM’s official NBA transactions log.

12:10pm: The Bucks plan to sign veteran swingman Glenn Robinson III to an Exhibit 10 contract, a league source tells Eric Nehm of The Athletic (Twitter link).

A former second-round pick (4oth overall in 2014), Robinson holds seven seasons of NBA experience, having played for the Wolves, Sixers, Pacers, Pistons, Warriors and Kings. The 29-year-old has been out of the league since 2020/21, when he made 23 appearances with Sacramento, averaging 5.3 PPG and 2.0 RPG on .424/.364/.913 shooting in those contests (16.0 MPG).

A 6’6″ wing, Robinson holds career regular season averages of 5.9 PPG and 2.6 RPG on .457/.373/.779 shooting in 304 games (105 starts, 17.4 MPG).

In August, Robinson reportedly worked out for the Warriors and Celtics in an effort to make it back into the NBA. While he was unable to land a contract with those clubs, he’ll be given an opportunity with Milwaukee.

However, the Bucks have 15 players on guaranteed standard contracts and Robinson is ineligible for a two-way deal due to his extensive experience. That means he will likely be waived in the coming days and start 2023/24 with the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s G League affiliate. The Exhibit 10 clause in his contract would entitle him to a bonus worth up to $75K if he’s released and spends at least 60 days with the Herd.

Once the signing is official, the Bucks will have 19 players under contract, two shy of the preseason limit.

Nets Waive Darius Bazley

2:00pm: Bazley has been released, according to the Nets (Twitter link).

12:56pm: The Nets intend to waive big man Darius Bazley, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

A former first-round pick (23rd overall in 2019), Bazley signed a one-year deal with Brooklyn this summer as an unrestricted free agent after he didn’t receive a qualifying offer from Phoenix. However, his contract was non-guaranteed, and he was trying to make the Nets’ opening night roster.

With Bazley set to hit the waiver wire, it seems as though Harry Giles and Trendon Watford might have secured roster spots. The three players — all of whom are on non-guaranteed deals — appeared to be competing for the final two spots on the 15-man roster, with Brooklyn having 13 players on guaranteed standard contracts.

A 6’8″ forward/center, Bazley holds career averages of 9.1 PPG and 5.3 RPG on .411/.310/.673 shooting in 228 regular season games (118 starts, 23.6 MPG) with the Thunder and Suns. He averaged 5.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 1.0 SPG while shooting 42.9% from deep in three preseason contests with the Nets and is expected to draw interest as a free agent, according to Charania.

The Nets will have 19 players under contract once Bazley is officially released. They have one two-way slot open.

Wizards Sign Devon Dotson, Waive Jules Bernard

The Wizards have signed guard Devon Dotson to an Exhibit 10 contract, the team announced (via Twitter).

To make room on the 21-man preseason roster, Washington waived Jules Bernard, who was also signed to an Exhibit 10 deal. The Wizards’ roster remains full after the moves.

Dotson, 24, has appeared in 28 games over three seasons with the Bulls and Wizards, holding modest averages of 2.0 PPG and 1.1 APG in 6.7 MPG. All of those appearances came while he was on two-way contracts.

Last season, the former Kansas star spent a couple of months on a two-way deal with Washington, having been waived in January. While he only appeared in six games for the Wizards in 2022/23, he had a solid regular season showing for their NBA G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, averaging 14.8 PPG, 6.1 APG, 4.4 RPG and 1.2 SPG on .529/.392/.814 shooting in 29 games (31.7 MPG).

Exhibit 10 deals can be converted into two-way deals, and the Wizards have one two-way slot open. If he doesn’t receive a promotion and instead is waived before ’23/24 begins, Dotson would be eligible for a bonus worth up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with the Go-Go.

Spurs Waive Khem Birch

1:15pm: Birch has officially been waived, the Spurs announced in a press release.

10:09am: Center Khem Birch will be waived by the Spurs, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Birch was part of the return San Antonio received when it traded Jakob Poeltl to Toronto in February. He never appeared in a game for the Spurs, as a right knee issue sidelined him for the rest of the season.

With 16 fully guaranteed contracts, San Antonio had to get rid of at least one of them before Monday’s league-wide cutdown date. Unless Birch gets claimed on waivers, the team will be on the hook for all of his $6,985,000 expiring deal.

The 31-year-old big man appeared in 20 games for Toronto last season, averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per night. He went undrafted out of UNLV in 2014 and played six NBA seasons with the Magic and Raptors.

Once the move is finalized, the Spurs will have 18 players on their preseason roster with one two-way spot open.

Timberwolves Sign D.J. Carton

Free agent guard D.J. Carton has signed with the Timberwolves, the team announced in a press release.

Carton joined the Hornets after going undrafted in 2021, but he was waived before the start of the season. He has been in the G League since then, spending one season with Greensboro and playing for Minnesota’s affiliate in Iowa last year. He averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 47 combined G League games.

He also played for the Timberwolves during this year’s Summer League, averaging 9.0 points and a team-best 6.8 assists in five games.

Carton received an Exhibit 10 contract, tweets Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News. That means he’ll be eligible to earn a bonus of up to $75K if he gets waived by Minnesota and spends at least 60 more days with Iowa.

The Timberwolves created a roster opening by waiving Vit Krejci on Wednesday. They’re now back to the preseason limit of 21 players.

Vit Krejci Waived By Timberwolves

The Timberwolves have waived guard/forward Vit Krejci, according to NBA.com’s transactions log.

The 23-year-old signed with Minnesota last month after the Hawks released him in August. He appeared in just one of the team’s four preseason games, scoring four points and grabbing two rebounds in a little more than seven minutes of action.

The 37th pick in the 2020 draft, Krejci spent one season with Oklahoma City before being traded to Atlanta. He appeared in 59 combined games with the two teams, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per night.

Because he had an Exhibit 10 contract with the Wolves, Krejci is eligible for a bonus worth up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate in Iowa. He has previous G League experience with Oklahoma City Blue and the College Park Skyhawks.

The move brings the Wolves’ roster down to 20 players.

Cavaliers Exercise 2024/25 Option On Evan Mobley

The Cavaliers have exercised their fourth-year option on Evan Mobley, a source tells Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com (Twitter link).

The move guarantees Mobley’s $11,227,657 salary for the 2024/25 season. He will become eligible for a rookie scale extension next summer and could be a restricted free agent in 2025 if he doesn’t reach a new deal before then.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft, Mobley became an immediate starter in Cleveland and helped transform the Cavs into a playoff team. At age 22, he is one of the building blocks of an organization that hopes to take the next step after last year’s first-round ouster.

Mobley averaged 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game last season while shooting 55.4% from the floor. He also blocked 1.5 shots per night and is already considered one of the best defensive big men in the league.

Lakers Sign Louis King

6:18pm: Free agent Louis King is signing with the Lakers, tweets Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The deal was confirmed by King’s agent, George Langberg of GSL Sports Group.

The 24-year-old combo forward made a brief NBA appearance last season, getting into one game with the Sixers after signing a two-way contract in late December. King spent most of the season in the G League, where he averaged 16.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 32 regular season games with the Delaware Blue Coats.

King became an unrestricted free agent in July when Philadelphia decided not to make a qualifying offer. He had a tryout with the Celtics in August, but remained unsigned.

King will likely head to the G League again once his contract with the Lakers is finalized. Assuming it’s an Exhibit 10 deal, he will be eligible for a bonus of up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with L.A.’s South Bay affiliate.

The signing will bring the Lakers’ offseason roster to 18 players. L.A. has 14 fully guaranteed contracts, and all three of its two-way slots filled.

Grizzlies Sign Adonis Arms, David Johnson

The Grizzlies tweaked their preseason roster by signing Adonis Arms and David Johnson, the team announced in a press release. Jason Preston and Timmy Allen, who both signed with the team on Monday, were waived to make room.

Because Memphis already has 15 guaranteed contracts and all three of its two-way slots filled, all four players are likely to end up in the G League. Assuming they all have Exhibit 10 deals, they can earn up to a $75K bonus by spending at least 60 days with the Memphis Hustle.

Arms, a 25-year-old guard, finished last season with the Hustle after being acquired from Grand Rapids in a G League trade. He spent time with both Denver and Phoenix during the 2022 preseason and played for the Nets in this year’s Summer League.

Johnson, a 22-year-old guard, was drafted in the second round by Toronto in 2021, but only appeared in two NBA games before being waived last October. He spent most of his time with Raptors 905 in the G League, but was traded to the Hustle in late August.

The moves leave the Grizzlies with 21 players on their preseason roster, with three needing to be trimmed by Monday’s league-wide cutdown date.
