Week In Review: 11/3/14-11/9/14

One of the unfortunate trends that is defining the 2014/15 season thus far is player injuries. Beginning with Paul George having been lost for the year after fracturing his leg during a Team USA intrasquad scrimmage this summer, training staffs around the league have had their hands full. Among the players currently earning their paychecks while in street clothes are Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Bradley Beal, and Marcus Smart. The latest player to fall victim to the injury bug is Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio, who severely sprained his left ankle this past week and is expected to miss seven to eight weeks of action.

Here’s more from the week that was…

  • The Lakers are likely to make a run at Rajon Rondo when the point guard hits free agency next summer.
  • Free agent guard John Lucas III has had inquiries from the Thunder, Pacers, and Grizzlies, but is maintaining the hope that he can make a return to the Bulls sometime this season.
  • The Pacers intended to sign free agent Gal Mekel to a contract, but visa issues prevented the deal from being completed.
  • Jordan Hamilton was waived by the Jazz.
  • The Pacers signed A.J. Price using the hardship provision that the league had granted the franchise.
  • Also decimated by injuries, the Thunder signed Ish Smith using the hardship provision they were granted.
  • There were rumors that the Knicks and Pacers were discussing a deal that would send J.R. Smith to Indiana and Chris Copeland back to New York.
  • The Grizzlies re-signed training camp invitee Kalin Lucas.
  • The Mavs intend to make a run at signing the BlazersLaMarcus Aldridge when he hits free agency next summer.
  • The Thunder are among the teams in talks with free agent Dwight Buycks, who reached a buyout agreement with Valencia of Spain last week. There are conflicting reports about whether the Lakers are one of them.

Week In Review: 10/27/14-11/2/14

NBA teams combined to hand out more than $450MM in rookie scale extensions this year, based on estimates of the maximum salaries that Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson are set to receive and the outcome of incentive clauses for a number of others. A total of nine players out of 21 who were eligible to sign rookie scale extensions did so, and those who failed to do so are now set to become restricted free agents next summer. Here’s a recap of the week that was…

Here’s a look back at the (busy) week that was..

Week In Review: 10/13/14 – 10/19/14

Earlier this week we learned that the Wolves have gotten inquiries on a few players, including forward Chase Budinger.  The Pistons, Rockets, and other clubs have shown interest in the 26-year-old and with plenty of small forwards under contract, it stands to reason that Minnesota could consider moving him.  More from the week that was..

Week In Review: 10/6/14 – 10/12/14

Remember all that speculation over Frank Vogel‘s job security in Indiana?  We can put that to rest, for now, as Vogel has inked a contract extension with the Pacers.  It’s not known how many seasons the deal covers, but we do know that he’s now under contract beyond 2014/15.    More from the week that was..

Week In Review: 9/29/14 – 10/5/14

Mavs owner Mark Cuban alleged that Rockets GM Daryl Morey relies heavily on math and cares very little about team chemistry.  Morey quickly fired back at Cuban’s comments and added that he’ll “never trade” his core of Dwight Howard and James Harden.    Here’s more from the week that was..

Week In Review: 9/22/14 – 9/28/14

The Eric Bledsoe saga has finally come to a close.  The guard and the Suns came to terms on a five-year, $70MM deal this week and while Bledsoe didn’t get the max deal he was after, he still got a handsome payday.  Meanwhile, Phoenix hopes to also lock up backcourt mate Goran Dragic for the long-term.  Here’s more from the week that was..

Week In Review: 9/15/14-9/21/14

The impasse between the Suns and Eric Bledsoe continues to drag on, with neither the player or the team seemingly willing to bend on their negotiating stances. With each week that passes it seems more likely that Bledsoe will be forced to sign a qualifying offer and play out the season in Phoenix before becoming an unrestricted free agent next Summer. The latest wrinkle in the saga was Minnesota jumping into the mix and being willing to offer Bledsoe the max contract he is seeking, but it would require the Suns to participate in a sign-and-trade for the deal to work, something that Phoenix is reportedly disinterested in at the present time.

Here’s a rundown of the rest of the wheelings and dealings from the week that was…
