3:37pm: The two sides have agreed on a one-year deal worth $4MM, Ethan J. Skolnick of the Miami Herald tweets.
8:39am: Udonis Haslem is finalizing a deal to stay in Miami for his 14th season, tweets Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. The veteran power forward has been in negotiations with the Heat this week and is hoping to receive a contract for something more than the veteran’s minimum.
Haslem, 36, has been with the franchise since 2003, but has seen his playing time drop steadily in recent years. He appeared in 37 games with Miami this season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 7.0 minutes of action. Team president Pat Riley recently singled out Haslem for becoming a mentor with younger players and said he would like to keep him for another season.
The Heat may need Haslem on the court more often next season if Chris Bosh‘s availability remains limited by health issues. Another veteran big man, Amar’e Stoudemire, is also a free agent and may not return to Miami.
Amar’e never has played for Heat only Suns and Knicks. Morning played for Heat.
Amar’e played for the Heat last season…
Amar’e played for the heat last season. Get your facts straight
Check ur facts. Amare played last season for miami and the season before dallas and before that the knicks and before that the suns.
Amare played for the Heat, and ended up starting a significant amount of games for them. He played well in the regular season, but dropped out of the rotation in the playoffs when they moved Whiteside back into the starting lineup. He played really well. In my opinion, he improved exponentially on the defensive end. I think Amare could play another year or 2, if he is used right. Regardless of anything, I gained a lot of respect for him in the last year. He is a really good dude. I hope he can end up in a potential winning situation
He suited up. Playing is a different story
Thank you. At least we FINALLY reached out, and are going to hopefully do the right thing. After the Wade situation, I think they realize how much they messed up, and that making the same mistake with UD would be asking for that much more backlash
He hasnt played much, but when he does, he gives us good minutes, and is still just as good as he has ever been. He had a down shooting year last year, but I’m not worried about that. He is also in phenomenally crazy shape. The Heat desperately need his toughness and leadership. There are reports that he had to get Whiteside to play at times last year. He was also the overwhelming leader in the locker room, mentoring Winslow, Richardson, and Tyler Johnson. No matter how much he plays, I always expect UD to get himself in the rotation at some point, and give us big minutes, as he did in the 1st round of the playoffs this year. Wish he would have got more of a look when Whiteside went down against Toronto…Anyway, when its all said and done, MR 305’s number will be hanging in the rafters where it belongs
My bad on Amar’e.
