Larry Sanders hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2014/15 season, but earlier this month, he announced that he was attempting a comeback. He hired Joel Bell to be his agent and he recently worked out for several teams, including the Celtics. According to Bell, one NBA team has already made an offer to the big man, as Gery Woelfel relays on his website.
“A lot of teams have expressed interest in Larry,’’ Bell said. “We already have one offer on the table. We should have something done at some point, probably by the All-Star break.’’
Six teams attended Sanders’ workout in Miami, though Bell wouldn’t disclose which teams were in attendance nor would he disclose which team made the offer.
An anonymous NBA executive from a team which is considered a “lock” for the playoffs told Woelfel that his team had representatives at Sanders’ workout. The source told Woelfel that Sanders had a good showing at the workout and added that two other playoff-bound teams were also in attendance.
Wish he was more impressive at the Celtics workout. If he could rebound, I’d be all for him. Apparently though, Washburn said he wasn’t lol that impressive.
Wow just noticed an embarrassing typo. Should be “wasn’t all that impressive”**.
If your a NBA franchise would you risk giving this guy anything more than a 2 year deal at any point is in his future in the NBA. I wouldn’t.
Honestly, his best shot for now would probably be a ten day deal at least to start out with. He needs actual game experience to show he can keep up in the league still.
If it’s a relatively minimum salaried, long term deal with few guarantees? Then yes. You’re telling me that if he asked for say a 4 year deal at the veteran’s minimum with only the first two years guaranteed that you wouldn’t do that?
Larry sanders is a bum
I doubt he will be back in the league after he did what he did. The NBA is like a fraternity and he broke the code with the shenanigans he pulled.
Please enlighten me on what he did. He smoked marijuana? Plenty of players have done that. He left the team? He checked himself into a program because he dealt with depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. If those are “breaking the code shenanigans” then the NBA isn’t exactly the type of fraternity you want to be joining. DeAngelo Russell posted private locker room talk on Snapchat, something that supposedly really hurt his reputation with his teammates, and is still playing.
He got a big contract and just left that’s what he did. If you invest in something/somebody and it doesn’t workout would you invest In it again ??
At minimal cost with the same ceiling as before? Yeah. If you had the opportunity to bet $10 on something, and if you could then later bet $1 when there was still a high likelihood of you winning the same amount of money, would you do it?
How do you no he has the same ceiling? And honestly why risk it what if he does it again ?
That’s why it’s a ceiling. Not everyone reaches their ceiling. I don’t know he’ll reach the ceiling, but he’s young enough that he can get back to where he was before eventually.
Yes he left the team. But that’s also because he was dealing with some mental-related issues. You’re going to tell me that he should’ve continued playing while dealing with those issues? Players leave the team all the time to deal with personal issues. Derrick Rose left the Knicks, without telling anyone, earlier this season but I don’t see you criticizing him. I’m not saying teams should heavily invest in Sanders again, but if the NBA fraternity can’t understand why he had to walk away, then the NBA isn’t the type of place you want to be a part of.
How do you know I didn’t criticize d-rose?? Anyways Mental issues really ? Lol all I saw was a guy cashout and leave to smoke weed for the rest of his life, but then saw the salary cap rise and now realizes he made a mistake and wants to cashout again. The NBA is a business my friend you actually think they care about the players lol.
Yes the NBA is a business. The “fraternity” that you mentioned before is the players. The players actually, for the most part, care about each other. But I’m sure you, Nbafan, knows more than anyone else here. I’m sure that you have the inside scoop to everything going on. Who was your source on everyone in the league hating Sanders? Frank Isola? Phil Jackson? Or some other source who throws out bs rumors to get clicks?
Honestly I don’t even know who this guy is
He used to be the best pick and roll defender in the league. Here’s a good read by Zach Lowe

He had one good season. I wonder if a guy who never really had the work ethic is still able to play in the NBA at a high-level
If you look at all that’s happened with Larry Sanders it doesn’t even come close to what other guys have done. D Rose left the team and they couldn’t find him for hours. D Russell had the whole Nick Young situation. Boogie Cousins got into a fight with a reporter and is constantly thrown out of games. Draymond kicks guys constantly and gets away with it.
Sanders was in a bad place and needed help so he went and got it he did what he needed to do to turn around his life
No, he saw the salary cap jump and now wants to steal more money from the NBA.
I don’t think so
Who cares? People aren’t allowed to change their minds? If he shows that is he is physically and mentally capable of playing give him an incentive based contract. Or one that gives him minimal salary for the rest of the year with a nice sized team option for next season. Like many of had said let’s just be happy for him personally that he’s getting his life on tract
