In addition to providing an update on the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, Chris Broussard shares rumors about a handful of big-name trade candidates in his latest Insider-only ESPN.com column. Let's dive in….
- The Rockets still have interest in Pau Gasol but want to build around Kyle Lowry rather than include him in any Gasol deal. The Timberwolves haven't talked to the Lakers in months about Gasol, while the Bulls have shown some interest in the Spaniard.
- Sources tell Broussard that the Celtics have determined they're not title contenders this year and would prefer to move Rajon Rondo rather than deal with the "headaches" he brings.
- Broussard hears that if Monta Ellis were traded, the Warriors guard would like to join the Lakers, Bulls, or Magic (alongside Dwight Howard), but none of those scenarios appear realistic.
- The Timberwolves offered Michael Beasley to the Lakers in exchange for the higher of L.A.'s two first-round picks, but were turned down. The Lakers are torn on Beasley — because L.A. is over the tax line, the team would be adding more than just Beasley's $6.26MM cap figure. I imagine they'd also prefer to use their trade exception to acquire a point guard.
- The Hornets' asking price for Chris Kaman has dropped since earlier in the season. They're seeking a draft pick, even just a second-rounder, for the center.
- LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum are "virtually untouchable" but the Blazers would talk about anyone else on their roster, particularly Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace.
Rose to Gasol… Title.
as in rose for gasol?? Because that would literally never happen. rose is in the class of lebron, kobe, Drurant, Griffen probably wade and westbrook too..THEY WILL NEVER BE TRADED!
No as in Rose passes the ball to Gasol when he determines that he cannot score during that possession. You know, for the assist.
Who would they trade to acquire Gasol though? Boozer and Watson sure as hell won’t get you Gasol…
Boozer, Brewer, Gibson, Osik and a first rounder or two?
I doubt the bulls would move boozer and Gibson unless they truly think they can buy out marotic from his euro contract this off season. I would say the bulls start with boozer( salary implications he has to be in the trade) Watson, first rounder or two and omir. But that package might be good enough to get Dwight so who knows. An interesting thought though.
I just don’t think the Bulls are a good trade fit for the Lakers. If we trade Pau it sure better be for a point guard.
Could be with Orlando to nab Howard. Could be with New Jersey to grab Williams. Maybe with Phoenix to nab Nash.
This is going to read rude but im not trying to. What 3 way deal would you propose. ?
The bulls get Howard and heidu( spelling)
The magic get Noah and pau. bulls 1round pick lakers first round pick
The lakers get boozer Jamer Nelson and deng and the bulls other first round pick.
I would think that LA would get Howard. Bulls get Pau. Orlando gets Boozer, the Charlotte 1st, LA’s 1st, and Gibson.
That’s a decent deal
For both teams. But what
Do the lakers do with Bynum? 2 centers really does not work. Many people could look at the spurs with te admiral and the mavs with Chandler and dirk. But dirk and Duncan are more power forward than center.
Howard played power forward when he came into the league.
No way Orlando does that.
Trade Howard to the Lakers?
It would probably be a three way trade with a team who would value our 1st rounder and the Charlotte 1st rounder.
Maybe Orlando :D
I think a boozer pau swap makes sense for both teams. Pau is best in the post and boozer is best in the 15 foot range. With Bynum taking up the post a mid range shooter how rebounds and can light it up when he wants to could benefit the lakers.
I think they would work well for both teams, but Boozer doesn’t have the trade value of Gasol.
Agreed which is why the bulls would have to part with one if not both of their first round picks this season
Well the Charlotte one won’t be usable this year. It’s protected, although by decreasing degree over time, until 2016.
I’d like to keep one just because I think this is a deep draft though. Maybe we deal Jimmy Butler?
Yeah lottery protected this season top 5 next season and fully unprotected after that ( which actually might benefit the bulls to keep it)
If we think we can win a title this year by trading it then, I think we should trade it.
Boozers biggest trade value for the lakers is his contract may be 2 years longer but it’s annual average is 5 mill per season less than paus. Seeing as they want to stay away from the luxury tax that could allow them to
Make another move like the rumored Beasley for 1st round pick trade.
I would love the bulls to acquire Beasley. They have two first rounder this season. He has tons of potential and seemed to be putting it together finally. He slides into small forward and the bulls do 1 of two things. 1 package deng and the other first round pick for a true shooting guard (Ellis or mayo) or slid deng into shooting guard( he has that skill set) and they have a tall line up which would be a great advantage going forward.
Deng isn’t fast enough to play the 2 guard and is the defensive captain of the team. I certainly wouldn’t give up on him for Michael Beasley. Especially because we’re finally seeing that potential we saw in his rookie year.
Beasley is a lazy defender and a streaky shooter. He wouldn’t meld with this group. Ellis would be nice, but I don’t think we can acquire him. Mayo? Blech.
I have wanted mayo since last year. Butler- the bulls 1st rounder( not the bob cats one) and maybe korver to even out the salaries.
I hate Mayo. He’s an awful defender. Doesn’t provide any overwhelming skills. Horrible attitude. Just not someone that fits here.
Wow, Kaman for a second round pick is a steal! Even if just for a year.
