There was no shortage of Steve Nash updates this weekend, with one report suggesting the Suns view the Knicks, Raptors, and Nets as the top competitors for the free agent point guard, while another report indicated that the Bulls could be in the mix as well. According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, however, Nash is "still days away" from seriously considering his future. Stein and HoopsWorld's Steve Kyler each have a few notes on Nash, so let's round them up….
- Stein agrees that the Raptors and Nets are a couple teams poised to make strong runs at Nash, but also lists the Trail Blazers rather than the Knicks as a third potential serious suitor.
- The Blazers have "coveted Nash for years," according to Stein, while the Raptors are prepared to make a serious offer for the Canadian star.
- As Stein writes, teams like the Knicks and Heat don't have the cap room to make a serious bid for Nash, but Kyler says the Suns could be open to facilitating a sign-and-trade deal if the two-time MVP wants to sign elsewhere. In that case, a lack of cap space wouldn't necessarily be a deterrent for suitors, and Phoenix could acquire something in return.
- There's still a real chance Nash re-signs in Phoenix, says Kyler, pointing out that the 38-year-old's relationship with the Suns' medical staff could be a "trump card."
