Sources have told Sean Deveney of the Sporting News that if the Suns are unable to lure unrestricted free agent Steve Nash back to Phoenix this summer, the team will go hard after Nash's former backup, Goran Dragic.
It makes sense for Phoenix to target Dragic. He spent the first two seasons of his career with the team, but was traded along with a first-round draft pick midway through his third year to the Rockets for Aaron Brooks.
Dragic averaged 18 PPG and 8.4 APG as a starter last season, and figures to build on that once he gets a full-time job. He told the Sporting News that he hopes to stay with the Rockets, but has fond memories of his time in Phoenix, and would really enjoy running Alvin Gentry's run and gun offensive style.
