11:18am: Woodson has spoken with Shumpert, but he can't assure him he won't be traded, Newsday's Al Iannazzone tweets.
10:48am: Knicks coach Mike Woodson seemed to downplay the idea of any Shumpert trade in his remarks to reporters, including Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv (Twitter link).
"Sure, we talk to him and we show him love and we tell him he's a big part of what we're doing. Those are just trade rumors," Woodson said.
SUNDAY, 9:04am: Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com hears the Knicks are unlikely to bite on a Shumpert-for-Dudley deal.
SATURDAY, 7:53pm: Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld adds on to Wojnarowski's report, saying that the Knicks would rather move Ronnie Brewer than Shumpert, but the Suns are intent on acquiring the second-year guard.
6:55pm: Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Phoenix Suns are pursuing a trade for Knicks guard Iman Shumpert. The Suns would offer a package including guard Jared Dudley and could possibly include a first-round pick as well.
Shumpert has been linked to the Suns since this summer, when they attempted to acquire him in a sign-and-trade with the Knicks for Steve Nash before Nash ultimately went to the Lakers. Saturday morning, Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld reported the Knicks' interest in Dudley, although Wojnarowski writes that New York is hesitant to do this trade.
If Knicks trade him they better get more than just one guy. They had better get a couple draft picks. First and second rounder. But they have an amazing player on their hands and should not get rid of him.
No please no keep Iman he is a good shooter and great defensive presence that’s what will help them win more than just dudley
Knicks shouldn’t give up Iman. He is a solid player and will develop into a lock-down defender(pretty damn good one right now).
I like Ronnie Brewer, he cant shoot, but he plays good D, knicks should give him more minutes
I thought this trade idea was ridiculous when I first read it but the more I think about it, it may make sense. They’re trying to stretch Shumpert at the three now that he is back and that really doesn’t work for him he is better at the 1/2. Dudley can play the 2/3 and shoot the three well. He may not be as good as a defender but he can body up against 3’s better than Shumpert can. This would also give them a first rounder where maybe they could target someone like Oladipo in the draft.
I understand Shumpert is one of the only young pieces the Knicks have, but he doesn’t really fit what they are trying to do with their roster this year, a roster built to win right now. This trade may help them win now and acquire young talent later.
Looking at the Suns roster again, maybe Markieff Morris would be a better fit for a swap like this. Throw in the first rounder from the Lakers and it may make sense.
