Faced with a luxury tax problem, the Heat have been aggressively trying to deal Mario Chalmers and Shabazz Napier, reports Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. An unidentified GM from another team said Miami’s preference is to deal Chalmers because he is due to make $4.3MM next season. Miami would reportedly settle for a second-round pick — or even less — to get Chalmers’ salary off its books. The GM adds that Chris Andersen is another candidate to be dealt, although the center has not been offered to the GM’s team. He also says the Heat are not trying to trade Josh McRoberts.
There’s more from the Southeast Division:
- Miami will make an offer to Josh Richardson to keep his rights, but may encourage the rookie guard to play overseas, Jackson writes in the same story. Richardson will have to choose whether to seek a spot with a foreign club or try to make the Heat’s roster in training camp. Richardson hasn’t decided if he is willing to spend a year overseas, saying the NBA “has always been my dream; nobody wants to play anywhere else.” The Heat currently have 17 players under contract, stacking the odds against Richardson earning a roster spot.
- Former Hornet Jeffery Taylor has been offered a two-year contract by Maccabi of the Israeli Premier League, tweets David Pick of Eurobasket.com. Pick termed the situation a “done deal” if Taylor agrees. Last month, the Hornets decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Taylor, making him an unrestricted free agent. He spent three years in Charlotte, although his second season was cut short by an Achilles tear and the third was interrupted by a 24-game suspension imposed by the league.
- Barcelona may offer a contract to former Wizards guard Will Bynum, according to Enea Trapani of Sportando. Bynum spent most of the 2014/15 season in China, but signed with Washington late in the year and appeared in seven games.
Some Heat fans are having a hard time understanding the fact that we can get similar production for exponentially cheaper, and therefore, we should move guys like Rio, so we can lower our tax bill exponentially. Also, we have young guys that can give us the length and athleticism we need to supplement the veterans
As for Richardson, it would be nice to get him to play overseas so he can continue to develop offensively with more playing time, but its not the end of the world if we keep him. He can give us the perimeter defense we need. Obviously, we have a couple of trades to make first though
Who is going to average 10-4 off the bench for the heat other than Rio? I agree he’s gone before the season.. but Nappier is not that guy yet. losing a 2 time NBA champ starting PG is NOT going to help your team.. only hurt it.
Sixers would prolly take him if they made the 1st rounder we have of theirs unprotected
who were you referring to?
I understand trading chalmers but Napier doesn’t really make sense. He is cheap and could become a good backup to dragic
The Heat have multiple combo guards on the bench that have bypassed Napier though. Obviously, you would like to hold on to him as he develops, b/c he seems like he could become a good piece at the PG spot, but he doesnt have enough versatility, and he just doesnt fit on this roster, especially when we can use that roster spot on something else, and get some salary tax relief on his $1.3 million. Main 2 guys that need to go are Chalmers and McRoberts, but if we can bring in someone like Khem Birch to replace Birdman, it would help the Heat if we also moved Birdman and Napier
You do realize the vet minimum is 1.5 vs. Nappier’s 1.3 right? You aren’t speaking with logic man. If the Heat traded Napier it would be because they don’t believe in him.
Obviously, that would be part of it…also, the cap hit is different on those 2 figures, so he technically hurts our cap more. On a side note, I’m not comparing him to a veteran’s minimum guy that we would bring in. I’m comparing him to the lower cost alternatives we already have at that position.
Trade chalmers andersen and ennis cut sign richardson napier good backup for dragic lot potential in this guy heat have lot guys from D league for backup maybe sign dorell wright another backup for whiteside I think heat need 1 por 2 swingman and another rim protector for whiteside and bosh
They have Stoudemire and McRoberts (and Haslem)… they don’t need more front court. They really don’t need anything anymore. Just tax relief so they can sign a major contract next summer without it killing Mickey Arison’s wallet.
The Heat desperately need outside shooting. There is no 3 point ace. What made them successful in seasons past was that ability to knock down the 3 ball. They are definitely more athletic but they do need to address that problem.
definitely agreed. We do need more shooting on the wing, or we need to get some shooting from the combination of Winslow, Ennis, and Richardson.
Gerald Green
We needed Gerald Green +1 on the wing…If we can get the production we need from the combination of the 3 guys that I mentioned, or just 1 of them, then we dont need anything else other than to stay healthy
Trade McBob??? Whoever says trade McRoberts doesnt know basketball and go watch hockey.
I was only on board with trading him as part of a deal for Jamal Crawford (before they signed green)
He is on a long term deal, and the style of this team has totally changed. I’m not saying that he cant still help us in multiple areas. I’m just saying that it may be unnecessary to pay him in the Heat’s current situation
Napier should stay… Like… Yeah
Cut walker trade río andersen and maybe ennis sign another swingman like gerald green maybe dorel wright sign richardson and replace birdman for another backup for whiteside from D league or FA heat now hace 18 playera maximun 15 roster cut walker trade ennis chalmers and birdman hace 14 and sign another One heat crear team this season riley mover pieces again for cap space and sign another superstar next year
