Another head coaching job became available earlier today when the Grizzlies parted ways with Dave Joerger. “After careful consideration, I concluded that a change was needed to foster the strong culture required to achieve sustainable, long-term success for this organization, the city and our fans,” said GM Chris Wallace. “On behalf of the Grizzlies organization I would like to thank Dave for his work and time in Memphis. We wish Dave and his family all the best and success as he moves forward in his career.”
Joerger reportedly asked management for permission to interview for other vacancies with an eye on openings in Sacramento and Houston. Joerger led the Grizzlies to a 42-40 record this season with a makeshift roster that saw 28 different players suit up for them because of various injuries and trades. Without stars Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, Memphis wasn’t able to win a game in the playoffs. Management applauded his coaching ability, but they reportedly did not see eye-to-eye on personnel matters. “Being an NBA head coach is about more than just coaching a 48-minute game,” Wallace said.
If you were Joerger, what coaching vacancy would you target? Would you want to coach DeMarcus Cousins in Sacramento, where just getting to the playoffs may grant you job security? Would you want the challenge of trying to bring a James Harden-led Rockets team to the finals in a Western Conference that’s so strong at the top? Maybe you prefer Indiana or New York. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. We look forward to what you have to say!
Joeger has an interesting options. He can turn a dysfunctional team with a star that resembles a young Z-BO to a contender. Or he can go to a playoff ready team like the rockets. But the Knicks want triangle offense which is not his type of offense. Same problem with the pacers who want to run a small ball. So rockets and kings are the to serious choices.
There is no way I go near Sacramento. It has nothing to do with Cousins. Their ownership and front office is a circus.
come to sac. everybody from the outside cities see exactly what the media wants you to. let’s not forgt about the ugly situation Philly is in or the actual disfunction of the rockets. we got a good core with talent and cousins just wants a coach that’s gon ride for em just like any player. give vlade a chance to right the ship. all the decisions he has made thus far are solid. sac will give the coach a new opportunity cuz we ain’t no slouches. everyone knows that if Karl played his rotations right we woulda been fighting for that last playoff spot. all we need is the right coach and Memphis just let him go. Nuff said. drops mic!
Kings future is even more uncertain than the Rockets to be exact. The two sure things are the squad leaders but, sorry, anyone sane would take James Harden ahead of Boogie plus, as much as I like Vlade Divac (imagine if he got Pedja Stojaković as well), there’s more of a chance of Morey building a contender than him.
Last but not least, Les Alexander has been wonderful as an owner, only stepping in when doubts start after disastrous seasons such as the last one. Can you say the same about Vivek Ranadive?
Top assistant under Thibs for the wolves. Could learn a lot and help us win too. His other options are too disfunctional. Try for another head coaching job next year.
