12:40pm: The Hornets have made it official, issuing a press release this afternoon to announce that they’ve waived Harrison.
10:40am: The Hornets are opening up on a spot on their roster, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, who reports that Aaron Harrison will be waived today by the team. It’s not clear if Charlotte is eyeing a replacement or if the club will move forward with an opening on its 15-man squad for now.
Harrison, who joined the Hornets as an undrafted free agent last season, has only appeared in 26 total games for the franchise, despite being in Charlotte for the last year and a half. In those 26 games, he averaged a measly 4.2 minutes per contest. The Kentucky product has been solid in D-League action, averaging 20.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 3.2 APG this season in 14 games for the Greensboro Swarm.
Harrison had been playing on a non-guaranteed contract this season, and his salary for 2016/17 would have become fully guaranteed if the Hornets hadn’t cut him by this Saturday, so the timing of the move doesn’t come as a real surprise. Treveon Graham, who has also played sparingly in Charlotte, is the team’s other non-guaranteed player — a decision will be required on him this week as well.
Assuming Harrison’s release becomes official today and he goes unclaimed on waivers, he’ll become a free agent on Thursday, at which point he’ll be a candidate for a 10-day NBA deal or a D-League contract. Meanwhile, the Hornets will carry a cap hit of about $376K on their books after cutting Harrison, per Bobby Marks of The Vertical (Twitter link).
Harrison is a bust, and that was clear when he was in college.
he was undrafted
Bust would be guys like Thabeet, Shabazz Napier, Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, Jeremy Lamb, Hilton Armstrong and Jeff Adrien. A guy like Harrison or Ryan Boatright aren’t busy because they were so bad and expectations so low it wasn’t a surprise to anyone.
Jeremy Lamb has been good for CLT
Lamb translates to bust in Chinese. That’s the league you’ll find all of these dudes soon.
24% from 3.
Shabazz is cheeks
If cheeks means ass your right.
Totallly agree ! His brother is terrible also in Memphis he is shooting 26 percent in 3’s 28 percent in 2’s crazy ! They both bust to me !
So undrafted scrubs are called busts now?
Interesting
Get him on the 87ers.
Bust? I agree with poster questioning how an undrafted player can be a bust. Just making a team after being undrafted makes him the opposite of a bust. I guess he did go to Kentucky so maybe they mean a bust regarding the hype coming out of highschool going to Kentucky, but if I remember right they both played well in college. And his D league numbers are excellent, what is he supposed to prove in 4.2minutes per game? Lol if he got 30m a night he would probably change some minds and have some good games.
He just needs to find the right team & situation
Neither Harrison brother seemed to be good decision makers at Kentucky, and we’ve seen it in the NBA with Andrew in Memphis. Tough to say on Aaron, b/c I thought he could at least be a decent shooter, and haven’t seen him at all, for the most part, while he was in Charlotte. Good D-league numbers. Maybe he should try to earn another shot down there, or he and his brother could benefit from going overseas, once it doesn’t work out in Memphis either. Neither is much of a defender, despite their length, so should be interesting to see how long Andrew stocks in memphis with Fiz
Needs to find the right team, better go to Portland because Shabazz about to get dropped!
Id pick this dude up put him on that spurs squad he should make a name for himself under coach pop in no time sure i see he is a spot up shooter but if you look at the history of spot up shooters that played for the spurs usually fund themself in a great situation dont believe me roger mason well known shooter played for the spurs couple years went and got a fat deal else where…gary neal made a name for himself against the clippers overtime history…patty mills before he was relevant…oh and the red mamba do i have to say more the spurs know how to use players not only to their strength but to their weaknesses as well develops them to be a competitive competitor…
