12:42pm: The Sixers, Nuggets and Raptors have also expressed interest in Millsap, according to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
9:01am: Add the Pelicans to the list of teams that have expressed interest in trading for Paul Millsap, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders (Twitter link). The Hawks are in active trade talks with several teams including the Kings.
Atlanta would like to move Millsap “sooner rather than later,” according to an earlier report by Shams Charania of the Vertical. It was reported earlier in the week that if the team dealt the power forward, it would be looking to add players who would help the team win this season. However, the team’s Kyle Korver trade may indicate that the organization is willing to take on draft picks and enter into a rebuild.
The Hawks nearly dealt Millsap last year on two separate occasions. They had a deal lined up with the Nuggets at the trade deadline, but opted against trading him away. They were set to deal him to the Raptors over the summer had Al Horford re-signed with the team. Horford signed with the Celtics, which prompted the team to keep the Louisiana native. Millsap can opt out of his current deal and become a free agent, though there are conflicting reports about whether or not he will take that route.
Do the Nuggets really think he’d stay and not opt out next year? Nuggets are terrible and he’d get years from a contender for the same/more money.
I think he would stay in Denver and help them build a contender in the same way that they intended to use D-Wade
Wade never intended to go to Denver and neither will Milsap. He’ll opt out if he’s traded there.
He would stay in Denver if they offered him a 5 year max, to be honest this is what teams like Denver have to do in order to compete with the top teams.
This is also why the sixers are interested. New cba gives the incumbent team a $40M advantage with unrestricted free agents looking for their last NBA contract, like Milsap: 5years with 8% raises, versus 4years with 5% raises.
I’ll bet Colangelo is offering Nik Stauskas, Ersan Ilyasova and OKC2020 for Milsap. That’s essentially flipping Jerami Grant for Paul Milsap.
Ilyasova helps the salaries match and is also on an expiring contract. Nik Stauskas, they hope will be a younger Kyle Korver. And the pick.
Ilyasova has looked very good next to Joel Embiid. Paul Milsap would be even better, is the thinking.
lol oh yea? And how do you know that? What’s your proof? You got text messages from Millsap Dean?
lol I just love how all these fans “know” if a player will or will not sign with a team. Cracks me up. Unless you’re the player himself, one of his family members or getting dicked by him you have absolutely no idea where said player wants to play, live, raise kids etc. so don’t make yourself look like a fool guys!
He’s speaking from common sense
Millsap will opt out wherever he goes to sign one more long term deal before he’s out of his prime
Exactly. I mean, the only teams that should try to trade for him are playoff contenders and real playoff contenders b/c I doubt they move him on the cheap.
Hawks aren’t going to take a scrub Stauskas, an expiring contract in Ilyasova and a late draft pick. It’s going to take more than that. Plus, Millsap is not a fit in Philly.
With Korver going to Cleveland, Denver has a better shot at Millsap. Atlanta needs Barton to replace Korver. Barton would be a perfect replacement.
Plus, we can offer Faried, and Gallo. They will get their rebounding, energy and shooting and be right where they are. We need to reiterate to Millsap that he grew up in Colorado.
We need to let him know that Wade almost came to Denver for a reason.
We need to emphasize the good character and youth on this team. He can play with four budding stars to show them the ropes. Jokic, Nurkic, Murray and Mudiay.
Our owner, general manager, coach, Miller, Jokic and Murray need to get to Atlanta ASAP.
He needs to know with him, playoffs this year against Golden State. Next year, four seed. After that, it’s up to the team.
Barton would have to back up Dun. BUT, we have the first round pick Atlanta wants. And….. Nurk! Think we need to look at Noel.
