The Sixers aren’t releasing much information about Friday’s injury to rookie center Joel Embiid, writes Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Embiid suffered a bruise on his left knee in the third quarter of a game with the Trail Blazers. He returned for part of the fourth quarter before being pulled with 8:50 left to play.
Before tonight’s game in Atlanta, the Sixers said they weren’t sure when Embiid will play again. It could be when they return home Tuesday or he could be held out longer. Embiid wasn’t scheduled to make the trip to Atlanta because it was the second game of a back-to-back.
“I don’t know,” coach Brett Brown said when asked when Embiid might return to action. “Like I say, I think we will learn more when we get back to Philadelphia.”
Pompey states that it appeared Embiid may have hyperextended his knee, which could put him out for about a week. An X-ray on the knee was taken Friday.
Teammate Nerlens Noel said Embiid was moving well after Friday’s game and expressed confidence that he won’t be out long.
“He’s good,” Noel said. “I think it was more about precautionary to leave him out [for the final 8:50 Friday]. He told me even before the game ended that he felt all right. … They just got to take care of him.”
Embiid’s history makes any injury worrisome. He missed his first two NBA seasons while trying to recover from a twice-broken bone in his right foot.

As for Embiid. If the Kings continue to lose I don’t care what the Sixers do as in going for the 8th seed. However I do not want Embiid to have a lingering injury so let it heal am extra week if needed. Next year is def the year to go for it. Take it up to the deadline if they are still like 4-5 games out. Trade Ersan and Sergio and maybe Noel. Unless Eran is willing to take a reasonable deal it’s not worth keeping him. And I am not looking to give Noel 80m to be a backup. I would look at maybe a Monta Ellis to bridge the gap at SG instead of Stauskas and Henderson. One more year of controllability on a cheaper contract. Because I would try and land Fultz/Ball at the top of the draft and Leaf if we are towards the end of the lotto or Markkanen looking at the stretch-4 if Sari never develops a long range shot. Then in 2018 I’ll look to SG as the priority. I want to Avoid FA as much as possible. Lowry will cost the max. I don’t want a 14+ M PG with flaws like B Knight or Rubio type guys which is what you’ll get with the middling PGs avail.
If the Sixers pick lands 11-30, their swap rights with SAC get voided. So you might wanna readjust your hopes… Tank or die!
It’s can only be swapped if the kings pick is 1-10. Other wise it goes to Chicago
The kings pick would go to Chi
Holy shit, you’re the man! I totally misread it and Sacramento is more dumb than I thought possible!
Crazy sixers could have 2 picks in the top 7 or so in this draft, next year could be the year for them assuming Embiid stays healthy
Yea exactly. Kings are dumb. However… I don’t know that they will get 2 picks. The Lakers may tank now. So the whole Process will be relying on the Kings sucking. It’s like hoping to make the playoffs but you need 10 things to happen and you don’t control your fate. They need a PG in this draft, they may have to trade up which is annoying b/c it’s one or two less assets. The new CBA makes it much more difficult to land any legit player in FA. It’s PG or Bust for this draft. Checkout tankathon lol. Best scenario is either the Kings/Sixers get #1 or #2 overall. Worst case… 6-10 pick, no Lakers pick. Once you get past 6 you’re not getting a PG.
Ball, Fultz, Smith, Fox, and Ntilikana all could be gone.
Really hoping the Lakers don’t tank and that the Kings just be the Kings and tank naturally.
