The Cavaliers may look to play the free agent market after the trade deadline, Marc Stein of ESPN reports. Lakers guard Jose Calderon and Mavs big man Andrew Bogut are two players who “greatly interest” the Cavs in their search for bench help.
Due to salary cap limitations, it appears unlikely that GM David Griffin will pursue Calderon, Bogut, or Deron Williams via trade. What the team hopes, according to Stein, is that one or more of the group is bought out after the February 23 trade deadline.
With neither Bogut nor Williams seemingly interested in a buyout, Calderon has emerged as Cleveland’s most likely target for backcourt depth. The 35-year-old Calderon has averaged 3.5 points with 2.1 assists over 23 games in 2016/17, accumulating three DNPs in the Lakers’ last three games.
Bogut, 32, has posted a career-low 3.0 points per game over 25 appearances with the Mavericks this season. The former No. 1 overall draft pick is in the final year of a three-year, $36MM pact.
This “the cavs need help” thing is getting irritating. They are a good 30mil over the salary cap and every other teams payroll (besides the clippers) Talk about trying to buy a championship. It’s sad and annoying.
To clarify: what the Lebron and the caves are doing is annoying, not your reporting of it.
So they should just not try and improve the team? They need more to beat the Warriors, they know that.
The Cleveland Cavaliers need to trade for Demarcus Cousin in exchange for Kevin Love for durability as well as a rim protector along with a backup point guard. 6 million in cap space!9
Call me crazy, but I don’t think Sacramento would want to do that… ever.
Sacramento would jump at the chance to do that deal. Get a high level player in return if getting rid of a coach eating headache that is cousins
Don’t see it. If Cleveland adds significantly more to Love, then it upgrades to a possibly. Not sure why Sacramento would trade arguably the best center in the league for a player who is 2 years older than him and doesn’t provide as much production. Cleveland would have to add way more.
That said, Sacramento is a mess so hey nothing is impossible with them.
Your crazy sac will never do that. Ever heard that say stay off drugs
I would have to say there are certainly a lot of Cleveland haters out there and just because they want to get better and not stand Pat after winning a championship is not a bad thing at all….I don’t see it as buying a championship unless your going to put golden state in that category as well ? They are the most loaded team ever and will still not get a chip !!
Warriors are not buying championships & they have won a championship. Cavs fans think their team is all that because you have 1 championship & Lebron but without him, nobody would even give that team a second look so get off your high horse
Oh I’m not a Cleveland hater by any means, but the cavs payroll is at $127 mil, golden state is at $99 mil. It’s not even close. The only other team over $100mil is the clippers. This idea that ownership is not supporting Lebron is absurd. (I’m a wolves fan so I’ve got no dog in the fight. Thanks for Wiggins!)
What you spend doesn’t mean your team is ready to compete for a championship, all the Cavs payroll proves is that they’ve OVER paid to many people… For example Tristan makes more than both Klay and Steph so does that make him better?? Of course not… Cavs are competing only against the Warriors so Bron asking for more help is definitely legit…
I’m not sure anyone is saying that ownership is not supporting LeBron and company so I don’t know but they are going to be just fine all they need to do is work on their defense and the offense is all there !! Oh and I’m glad you are enjoying Wiggins because we love us some Kevin love over here !!! He’s a bad man !!!
Yeah LBJ has made himself look a fool on this one. Most expensive payroll league-wide. If they feel intimidated by Golden State and do a 3v3 I think they come out equally if not favourably. Kyrie, Lebron and Kev equal Curry, Thompson and Durantula and I’d take an Irving, Lebron, Durant line up with Kyrie being a tie for Steph.
I think the Cavs bench is stronger too, aside from a big man.
Wow where to start! Irving is good, no doubt, but he’s not even close to curry. Curry is a once in a lifetime player. Both lebron and Durant are unique players in the league and are equals. Thompson is at least a tier above love. Green is the best defender in the league. Cavs are loaded with overpriced old guys and the Warriors built through the draft. Take off your fan boy goggles.
“Warriors are built through the draft”. KD, Iggy, Livingston, McGee, Zaza, David West were all drafted from other teams. I won’t argue that the Cavs are overpriced or old or not built through the draft either, but its not like the Warriors are significantly more built through the draft than the Cavs.
Also, Kyrie is close enough to Curry in terms of talent. Curry is better, I will admit, but he’s not significantly better than Kyrie. Their offensive games are basically the same, Curry has the slight edge because of his range. Also, Green is the most versatile defender, not the best. Kawhi Leonard is still better considering how much he has to do offensively and than be expected to bring max effort defensively.
Can’t wait to repeat this year !!!!
Nah! No repeat! Because The Boston Celtics will win the East and Spurs the West!##
