A number of teams who had been considered good bets to make trades at the deadline opted to stand pat, unable to find any deals to their liking, according to various reports. Here’s a breakdown of some of the teams that decided not to make a move:
- The Celtics didn’t make a trade today, a source tells Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical (Twitter link). All of Boston’s assets, including the Nets’ next two first-rounders, remain under team control.
- In essence, Kyle Korver was the big deadline acquisition for the Cavaliers, who stood pat today, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
- Not only did the Pacers keep Paul George, but the team didn’t make any move to fortify the roster either, according to Nate Taylor of The Indianapolis Star and Scott Agness of Vigilant Sports (Twitter links).
- A source tells Vince Ellis of The Detroit Free Press that the Pistons didn’t make any trades today. In a tweet, Ellis expresses doubts about just how “available” some of Detroit’s players were.
- The Kings fielded offers for Ben McLemore, Darren Collison, and Arron Afflalo, but will wait until the summer to make more trades, tweets Sam Amick of USA Today.
- The Jazz also made no deadline deals, per Andy Larsen of Salt Lake City Hoops and KSL.com (Twitter link).
Time to fire Danny ainge. Sorry but he only had one good month as a gm. That was the Allen and kg trades. Unless they get a real star this offseason I’ll stand by my comment
And the heists to get the Nets picks, IT, Crowder, those were what?
He had two.. hiring brad Stevens.. :)
Ya trading the aged Pierce and Garnett for 4 Brooklyn picks wasn’t a good trade either lol. Ainge is one of the best GMs in the league. That trade alone has brought all these trade talks to fruition.
I would fire him easily, they had all the tools to bring over George or Butler and did not take action. Fultz and Ball will be great players but Ainge acts like the projected first pick is Lebron James.
Last year celtics need rim protector and shooter but he passed on murray hield instead he draft brown and now still the same problem what will u do with collection of picks
Toronto and wizards nw had the chance to challence cavs
Bro what? Go back in your hole.
You act like Isaiah Thomas is a franchise altering player when he’s not
I agree 100%
If a trade wasn’t there you don’t sell the farm…… Everyone expected miracles
Why wouldn’t SAC have taken the best offer for Collison? He’s totally leaving.
The Celtics are the worst! Another year of this nonsense. is there a worse GM in town the Ainge? Not even close.
At least you don’t have the Kings GM
The Kings GM is actually steering Sacramento the right path, they already have Cauley-Stein who is no Cousins but is a better defender, rim protector and team player. Plus now Buddy Hield will get extended minutes and he will turn out to be a really good player, just a matter of him getting the timing of the NBA pace right. Ainge is horrible, what is he thinking of doing? Drafting Ball or Fultz to sit down Thomas?
Don’t be stupid…Ainge is a really good GM.
He is not a really good GM. A really good GM would realize that this team is in win now mode and was a George or Butler away from competing with Cleveland and now they will just get smoked in the playoffs because they have no reliable offense beyong Thomas.
I honestly don’t think we’re (as if I’m part of the Celtics org lol) just a Paul George or Butler away. IT dominates the ball and having only 25 games to have that mesh provided there’s no injuries is a short time-table. I’m glad we stood pat.
The Sweeney/Neely combo isn’t doing to hot either. They’re definitely worse than Ainge.
Give stevens the gm n coach position
Ainge what do you serious have planned dude? Draft Fultz or Ball to play where? Neither will unseat Isaiah Thomas who is averaging close to 30 PPG, or what play Fultz or Ball alongside Thomas? NOT GOING TO WORK. You have win now players in Thomas and Horford and a rookie Jaylen Brown and you got more rookies coming in next year, the Celtics are going nowhere.
Pacers do nothing? Paul George can’t win with this team period, Turner is still another 1-2 years away and I don’t even want to get into the rest of the roster because their is nothing there.
I think Chicago and Boston dropped the ball big time. Still iffy on the Paul George scenario but if Boston did over a solid package idk what Larry Bird is waiting for. PG is not committal so why take that risk? I’m an OKC fan and as crazy as it sounds, I advocated that they trade kd last February. I had a feeling he’d leave and sure enough he did. I think Chicago needs to start the rebuilding process now, They have what, 4 point guards on their roster? Wade will not opt in. I think they will move Butler in the off-season. But who knows. And lastly, Boston is going to regret not getting PG or Butler. I think it’s funny how everyone is acting like there is a better fit in the draft. As good as fultz might be or ball or whoever, they won’t fill like PG would. They are going to overplay their hand and get stuck with a minute crunch with all these players imo
*fit
Initially, as a Celtic’s fan, I was upset. But that was merely dissatisfaction from instant gratification being met. I’m content with our situation. We’ve a lot moving forward, and I’m holding onto the notion that maybe Ainge knew PG/JB wouldn’t wanna stay here long term.
Still doesn’t pause Father Time and his deal with a 30 year old Horford, and 28 year old Thomas.
Sigh
I really do not understand the plan in Boston, their two best players are in win now mode and they plan on building with draft picks? This team is going to get smoked by Cleveland if they even make it that far in the playoffs, they needed George or Butler to become a legit title contender and have someone to take attention off Thomas in the playoffs and now teams will pounce on Thomas come playoff time and make the other Celtics beat them, who? Crowder? Bradley? Smart? GIVE ME A BREAK.
Celtics have the ability to have 2 waives of winners on the same roster. Guys in their prime now (Thomas Bradley horford) and a second waive of guys who are role players for a couple years and stars in the future. Wait until Cleveland slows down and try to take it over in a few years. Right move
100% agree LeBron won’t stay on top forever. A+ Danny.
Lebron will be around for another 3-5 years, he has two young stars in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love who can both shoot, pass, create their own shot and go off for 20-40 points a night. All Lebron will have to do is become more of a passer which he already is doing and the Cavs will still dominate the East.
LeBron is about to be 33 years old, he doesn’t have 3-5 years left of being a MVP lol guy has played almost two extra seasons in the playoffs. I also think Celtics might be in better position to make a trade in June.

Ainge is a genius. He got crowder from Mavs for nothing. Basically traded the celtics way to the big threes championship. You don’t fire a GM because other teams aren’t willing to move players. We don’t need a trigger happy gym like the kings. I’ll stick with what we got in Ainge and that’s a damn good GM.
Dude he could have offered the pick, Crowder, and a combination off rotational players for Paul George or Jimmy Butler and he didn’t. There is no Lebron James or Tim Duncan in this draft.
And those would have been terrible trades because George would leave in 5 months and Butler doesn’t really fit the roster. I know you’re impatient and want to seriously contend but you can’t just throw our resources at random stars in desperation. Ainge knows what he’s doing man. Just trust the process.
George can’t leave in 5 months…
For the idiots ripping Ainge, you NEED at least need 2 teams to make a trade work. The fact that neither Chicago or Indiana traded the guys that the Celtics wanted tells me that they were not really wanting to move them.
Larry would have gave away George for one of those picks and a combination of players.
And if everyone knows you have all these desirable pieces, they are going to try and rip you off by asking for the moon. Newsflash: Jimmy Butler was not getting the Celtics a championship. Paul George was worth paying up for but we don’t know what the price was.
As good as Isaiah Thomas is, Jimmy Butler is averaging 24 ppg dude and was going to be coached by BRAD STEVENS, not Fred Hoiberg anymore. If Brad Stevens made Thomas a killer imagine what he would do with Jimmy Butler? Not saying they would beat the Cavs but they would be right up there with them.
I’m a Pacers fan and a huge PG fan and even I admit Butler is better.
Tough to admonish Ainge for not getting a deal done without knowing what Indy’s trade demands were. If they expected both Brooklyn picks, Jae Crowder, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart, then it would have made 0 sense to do that deal. If the demand was too great, then the Celts would be in that awful limbo many other teams are in: 1 big dollar star and a bunch of lower end players because that was all they could afford under the cap. We will get a better idea as more information is made available.
Celtics did the right thing. Still have a ton of good picks and at the draft, other Gms will get stupid and give away a George type player.
Also for those teams not trading who are also a contender, there will be lots of buyouts soon and some really nice pieces available for the minimum.
Which nice pieces? Teams don’t just buyout star players if that’s what you’re expecting. And if theres demand for those nice pieces, it won’t be for the minimum.
Appears Pacers wanted the Nets 2017 pick as well as 3 of the 4 players; Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown. So Boston would have to give up the pick and a huge chunk of its core players to swing the deal for a stud player ready to bolt for LA in another year. I can’t blame Danny for not biting on that deal
