The Celtics have had discussions with the Clippers regarding Blake Griffin, though a deal remains extremely unlikely, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.com. If Los Angeles were to send Griffin to Boston, it would require the Celtics to give up Jae Crowder and either Avery Bradley or Marcus Smart in addition to future picks, sources tell Lowe.
Griffin will be a free agent after the season and Boston would likely need official permission to speak with the power forward before making an official offer to Los Angeles. The team would want to gauge Griffin’s interest in re-signing in Boston and Lowe notes that Minnesota allowed Cleveland to have similar conversations with Kevin Love before he was acquired by the Cavs.
Griffin isn’t the only star that the Celtics have interest in bringing aboard. Lowe adds that the team has “zeroed in” on Jimmy Butler and Paul George, though both appear unlikely to be traded. Lowe hears that the Pacers are turning away trade inquiries on George and it was reported earlier today that the Bulls are leaning toward keeping the 3-time All-Star. Lowe writes that the Celtics would need to include Brooklyn’s 2017 pick in an offer to entice the Bulls and Chicago could even demand both of the Nets’ picks in exchange for Butler.
Shittt
Clips had better trade Griffin now. He’s walkin this summer. So is CP3
I don’t think Blake will walk. Clippers can give him way more money. I assume he’ll sign a big deal with a one year player option, then he can sign a 200 million dollar deal for the 2018 season. Plus that guy loves LA. I don’t even know about cp3, if he’s chasing a ring, there’s not a lot of teams that are a pg away unless he went to the spurs
Not sure how Griffin would fit with Horford in the front court, but the Celtics need rebounding badly…..not giving up Smart though. Great defender.
Rather give up Smart than Bradley. Both can defend very well, and smart gives everything he has, but Bradley can shoot a little and can really rebound for a guard.
Bradley gets a ton of rebounds because the team has Horford and Johnson just box out, leaving AB to hit the boards.
Bradley only has one year left on his deal, it’s cheap now but he will get very expensive, smart has years left and is still young enough to get much better.
Horford would slide to center, Blake would stay PF, and Amir Johnson would be benched or would play SF, which is highly unlikely.
That’s the dumbest trade in history
Oh well hello. Now this would be interesting because Blake is hitting free agency, but could be very helpful in the now. Problem is, one of those three is a heavy price for a potential rental.
Griffin isn’t worth all that. Not when he’s a free agent at the end of the season. With that kind of haul Celtics can get someone better and/or controllable for a longer time.
Who?
The Celtics just started following Melo on social media.. Ugh
Bad trade all around. It gives off the vibe of collusion, Doc helping his best friend Danny Ainge. Remember when the Clippers tried to trade DeAndre to the Celtics for KG and Doc, but the NBA shut it down because of CBA rules, even going as far as putting a gag order on both teams for a full year. Getting Griffin surely makes up for the previous trade.
If this happens, there will be a headline on a newspaper that reads “Celtics traded Coach Doc Rivers to the Clippers for Blake Griffin.” Doc will come out looking like a Celtics spy.
Collusion? Lol…
Three realistic pickups: Andrew bogut, Lou Williams, and derrick favors
Celtics receive: Blake Griffin, Luc Mbah a Mouth
Clippers receive: Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, Jonas Jeberko, and Nets 2017, 2018 first round picks.
That is ridiculous the Celtics would never do that. Griffin is great yes but he is going to be a free agent at the end of the season and there is no guarantee the Celtics will resign him. Mbah a moute is a role player. And you think ainge would give up smart, a integral part of the future who seems to improve every game and is already a lockdown defender at age 23, and Crowder, a very good starting forward. Danny wouldn’t include one Brooklyn pick nevermind both. This is insane
The deal would probably be contigent on Griffin signing an extension. You have to give something to get something.
I understand that you need to give something of quality to get something of quality but that trade is just ridiculous
Stop dreaming Celtics becoz the Queen Lebroning will just pay the refs and will be in the WNBA Finals!!!!
