Last night’s trade between the Pelicans and Kings came about quickly. Within the span of an hour, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported that Vlade Divac had narrowed down his two best offers for DeMarcus Cousins, and that a deal had subsequently been reached with New Orleans. (Twitter links)
We had read variations of “DeMarcus Cousins is not being traded” many times over; once by the Kings‘ GM, and even from Cousins himself. As the February 23 trade deadline approaches, this deal served as a reminder of the exciting and unpredictable nature of the NBA’s trade deadline.
There’s plenty of time for another momentous trade to occur before the deadline, but which player(s) will be moved? As Marc Berman of the New York Post reported this morning, the odds of a Carmelo Anthony trade now appear “very slim.” And, aside from Brandon Jennings playfully teasing a trade on Twitter, it’s unclear whether the Pacers will find a new home for Paul George. What’s more, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Bulls are leaning against trading Jimmy Butler.
Here’s what we want to know: which star players, if any, will be moved by Thursday’s deadline? Do you think any trades will be as high-profile as last night’s blockbuster? Which teams’ playoff chances would improve the most from an impact trade?

How crazy would it be if the pelicans could land another big peace. I know it won’t happen but it would be really fun to think about.
Danny Ainge and the Celtics will pry Jimmy Butler away from the Bulls. Boston has so many assets, including Brooklyn Picks, young players and over-seas talent, to tempt the Bulls into rebuilding mode. If Chicago does not move Butler, they will continue to be mediocre and their fans will have to wait longer for their inevitable rebuild to progress. If Ainge gets Butler in Boston without sacrificing too much of his current rotation, the Celtics will have a very strong foundation to build off of for several years to come. Not to mention the roll this team is on right now, and adding Butler (and a big, Gibson) at this moment would elevate them to a level even with Golden State at the top of the league.
I think if Boston the Brooklyn Pick, Yabusele, Rozier, and Crowder, they bulls should accept in a heart beat. For the Bulls you get two dynamic players with athleticism and Yabusele who has potential. On top of that you get your choice between Fultz and Ball. Awesome trade for the Bulls, but I don’t know about boston. They’re probably trying to lowball the Bulls like Ainge is reknowned for.
I could see Ainge going as low as swapping Crowder for Bradley and changing Rozier to the Clippers and/or Grizzlies firsts, but that is something I’d see him biting on with something other than Crowder.
I don’t know about Golden State good but they woulf be good.
I would say Jimmy butler going to the Celtics still very very possible. Depending on what types of deals and packages that Boston offering. Their a report that the bulls leading toward keeping butler. But still not so sure that they won’t trade him. Just like the kings management said so many they wouldn’t trade Demarcus cousins and look how that turn out.
Carmelo is next to traded to the Clippers then Butler to Boston. I think Paul George gets traded too possibly to the Lakers or Suns
Pacers have stated that they want to field a team around PG, so he’s not getting traded this season. On the low chance he even did get traded, the haul required would be probably too much for the Lakers. It would easily require Ingram, Randle, Clarkson/Nance, and maybe another player (since the Lakers don’t have any first rounders to offer, it would seriously gut their rotation).
link to espn.com Makes Magic better by getting Butler,Gibson,Rondo,Lopez +7wins but all Bulls get back is Payton and Veterans like Meeks that is Injured but maybe throw in their Draft Picks.
link to espn.com Magic get Anthony and others +2wins. Knicks get Reggie Jackson and others. Magic give Pistions their 2 Centers.
You’re clearly a Magic fan since these trade ideas are terrible. That’s a terrible haul for Butler let alone adding in Lopez and Gibson. No amount of first round picks makes that deal any more attractive.
For your other deal, the Pistons have Andre Drummond on their roster, why would they want Vucevic and Biyombo? Both of your trade proposals are terrible. Maybe take into consideration what is actually fair value, or at least close to, instead of just doing whatever gets your favorite team a good player in exchange for whatever salary works.
Teams: Chicago Bulls, Phenix Suns, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Chicago Gets: Eric Bledsoe. Okafor.
Phenix Gets: Carter-Williams, Robin Lopez, Bulls 2018 Second Round Pick.
76ers Get: Doug McDermott/ Rajon Rondo Bulls 2017 First Round Pick
Bulls Get two key players who can help an offensively challenged bulls rosters.
Suns get a young productive center and a decent young guard in carter-williams
76ers finally get to move Okafor and will either get a playmaker who plays well with younger developing players and can feed the ball all around the court although he can’t shoot. or Doug, who could be a key player from behind the 3point line. and the first round pick they wanted.
Why would the Suns want Robin Lopez , a player they already dumped , with Chandler and Alex Len ( a better , younger player) at center ? Then pick up another guard in which they already have to many of ? PHX will only pull a trigger for a young superstar forward , to team with bledsoe and booker.
Chuch!
Why would PHX deal Bledsoe for Lopez, MCW and a 2nd rounder???
Melo for Kevin Love will go down.
Love got hurt
Every time … you can trade injured players… lay off the 2k just a tad bit
It still rarely happens though. The loss of value for a injured player makes it hard to get fair value.
The Wizards and Celtics are each 1 top player away from beating the Cavs for the Eastern Conference title! For the Celtics Jimmy Butler or Paul George would be that guy! For the Wizards Blake Griffin or the Greek Freak from the Bucs who are losing him to free agency would do the trick
Greek Freak already signed a max extension in Mill
Portland: Tyson Chandler
Phoenix: Brook Lopez
Brooklyn: Brandon Knight
Phoenix: Lopez & Evan Turner
Why would Portland take Chandler? They just traded Plumlee for Nurkic so they wouldn’t have to pay him.
Chandler > Plumlee
2yrs after this one, where as Plumlee will be starting a 4 or 5 yr deal. Plumlee is a good passer but weak defender and rebounder. Nurkic is a good scorer. Chandler is all D & rebounding, which Portland needs.
Look at the court not the checkbook.
Plus even the checkbook: wouldn’t you swap Turner for Chandler’s deal if you’re Portland?!
Reality speaking here, there’s a 90% chance that another Allstar trade happens. But evidence shows that just because they say they aren’t going to trade a player doesn’t mean it’s not gonna happen. I’m thinking Paul Millsap when I say that. Carmelo Anthony and jimmy butler as well, if the Knicks and bulls think the same way as the kings and think enough is enough. I highly think Paul George will get traded though out of the couple of people brought up. Lakers I feel might trade one of their young players just because they gave up hope. Then the most obvious is okafor in philly. But nothing on the level of boogie I think will happen. But after the trade I’m not going to say it happens
Not a star but I’d like to see Tyus Jones and Tyson Chandler head to Cleveland, they would get their backup PG and a defensive center. Only would take Shumpert and few other pieces especially if it’s a 3 team trade
Brook Lopez to Rockets
link to espn.com Rubio and Gay to Magic.
Their will be other Blockbusters for the stations to talk about.
I feel like the Cavs are working on something. They have to be right? They won’t get Love back until basically the playoffs at the earliest and who knows if he will be 100% and JR Smith is still out. I think they might even add Love in a deal. Love for Melo? I think they have to be working on something. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up reading for Lou Williams. Other then the Cavs I can’t think of another team really pushing hard to make a trade right now. Maybe the Thunder? Okafor is still in Philly and I thought for sure he would’ve been traded by now but at this point I’m not sure it’ll happen.
Wouldn’t it be crazy if the pelicans could land George as well? They’d go from trash to mega-team over night.
They don’t have the assets remaining. The Pacers FO isn’t as incompetent as the Kings FO. The base of the deal would be future firsts, not a very attractive headliner. The rest of their best assets (outside of AD and Cousins) are all pending free agents or rotation players.
