The Cavaliers, Spurs, Rockets, Celtics and Jazz have talked to representatives for center Andrew Bogut over the past 24 hours, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.
The 32-year-center has reportedly been negotiating a buyout with the Sixers ever since Thursday’s trade that sent him from Dallas to Philadelphia. Bogut must be waived before Wednesday’s deadline to be eligible for the post-season with another team.
Bogut hasn’t reported to the Sixers, but Charania relays that he spoke to coach Brett Brown over the phone. Bogut said he has respect for Brown and the culture of the team, but he wants to help a championship contender.
Of the five teams in Charania’s report, Utah has a massive financial advantage with $13.64MM in available cap space. That’s enough for the Jazz to claim Bogut’s entire $11MM contract once he hits waivers. Houston made two deals this week to clear cap room and has about $3.54MM open. Boston is $1.1MM under the cap, while Cleveland and San Antonio are both over.
The NBA ruled on Thursday that Bogut could rejoin the Warriors, even though they traded him in July, but so far there hasn’t been any indication that Golden State is interested in a reunion.
Why does a player think he has a right to say who he wants to play for? I say Sixers bury him on there bench and dock his pay for not coming.
Because they only traded for him for salary reasons, want to use roster spots on young players, and have enough class to allow a veteran to pursue a ring
He’d probably be buried on the bench even if he reported. If all of Philly’s bigs are healthy, he’s playing behind Embiid, Okafor, Holmes, and Saric at the least. He’s a respected veteran so he’s asking the Sixers to buy him out so he could try to catch on with a championship team and win another ring because he knows he won’t be doing anything on the Sixers. You’re right the Sixers don’t have to buy him out and they could say they want his leadership and experience in the locker room, but they probably know they won’t end up playing him much, if at all. So why occupy a roster spot for a guy who won’t resign at season’s end and probably won’t be playing much the rest of this year and isn’t a developmental player that the Sixers would like to see on their roster?
Of course he has a right. Just like you have a right for where you work. if he doesn’t want to report and wants to forfeit his money that is his choice. If he wants to work out a deal with the Sixers to be released that is his choice. And the Sixers get to make a choice to make a deal with him or make him report. Both sides have plenty of choices.
No, you don’t necessarily have a right to choose where you work? Where did you get this notion?
In most unions you are assigned and if you are transferred thats something you gotta deal with. Otherwise, you can find another profession.
Geez you’re a salty one.
He has no value for the 76ers
Cavs have TPE a bit bigger than Rockets cap space, and if he wants to help a contender I think the Cavs makes the most sense.
I don’t think you can use a TPE to claim a player or sign a free agent can you?
You can’t.
You can’t use a TPE to sign a player.
Cavs and Bogut both need each other
It’s not a question of anything but a business move. I think he’ll go where he feels most comfortable and team has a chance to win. Brown trout F. If you only act impulsively how do you catch any fish?
How is this not considered tampering if he hasn’t been bought out yet? If he wants to go to Cleveland he’ll likely extort more money from Philly than he would if Utah claimed him on waivers.
The Sixers would rather him not get claimed off waivers because that bring them back below the salary floor. Extort is a harsh word when the decision would be mutually beneficial for both parties. No one cares about tampering in the NBA. For instance players use All Star weekend as a chance to recruit players all the time (Durant, Horford)
Extortion is precisely the right word for this situation. I know all about the Sixers just as the Sixers knew what they were doing when they made the trade. The issue is when teams publicly acknowledge their interest in buyout candidates it provides the players with undue leverage. I don’t think that’s really debatable. You can disagree.
*Sixers cap situation. Excuse me, I don’t know know “all about the Sixers”. Though I do follow them. Their cap situation has been well documented.
Btw I LOVED your comment the other day about Hollis Thompson not helping anyone. Haha. It’s funny because it’s so true.

Two Mavs sources say they expect Andrew Bogut will choose to join the Cavaliers once he receives a buyout from the 76ers.
He going to Cleveland its already done

Bogut expected to sign with the Cavaliers. (B/R)
The Cavs are going to have Williams and Bogut together once again. It’s a done deal. Just the formalities remain.
Can’t be done. If Utah wants him, then they can just claim him on waivers. Have to pay him at his current rate though. They’re not considered a “contender” for the title, but certainly a playoff team. Not sure they’d do it if they think he doesn’t want to be there.
Otherwise, the Cavs are his best choice, because he’s likely to play some.
