10:25 PM: The trade is official, according to a Sixers’ press release.
“I want to thank Ersan Ilyasova for his positive contributions to this organization both on and off the basketball court,” team president Bryan Colangelo said. “Ersan is a true professional whose daily examples of hard work, focus and consistency have helped facilitate the ongoing growth of our program and culture.”
6:33 PM: The Sixers will send Ersan Ilyasova to the Hawks for Tiago Splitter, a second-round pick, and the ability to swap another second-rounder, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports (Twitter link). Philadelphia will receive a 2017 second-rounder which was originally Miami’s. The second element of the trade will be a pick swap between the two teams. Both players are in the last year of their respective contracts and both will hit free agency in July.
Splitter, who hasn’t played this season because of a calf injury, is a buyout candidate, but the team hasn’t yet decided whether or not it will try to negotiate an agreement with the big man, freelance journalist Derek Bodner reports (Twitter link). Both players are in the last year of their respective contracts and both will hit free agency in July.
Atlanta will be Ilyasova’s fourth team in the last calendar year and his fifth team since playing for the Bucks during the 2014/15 season. That offseason he was shipped to Detriot, but the Pistons sent him to Orlando at the ensuing trade deadline. He was then traded to the Thunder in their Serge Ibaka deal over the summer where he was later traded to the Sixers for Jerami Grant.
Ilyasova played well for the Sixers this season, but Philadelphia was wary of committing to him in free agency, according to Bodner (Twitter link). The move opens up playing time for rookie Dario Saric.

Wut
Really Sixers?
Clear room for Saric/Simmons
Splitter makes more than ersan…
This deal isn’t about money. It’s about getting all the could get for an expiring deal
Ya 2 second round picks and an expiring contract
I think he meant minutes.
They are in tank mode.
Is Splitter even playing? I mean, is he injured?
Why would Philly trade a decent stretch 4 for yet another center? Unless they are getting a draft pick as well, or cash?
read the article..2 2nd round picks …Ilyasova(29) Saric(22)..huge difference..building to be good in 3-5 years…
When I posted the article said “more to come”, no details.
Or others in deal or another deal in the works.
Paul George trade is real possibility
nah
If splitter is healthy, he could be an interesting option for a couple of teams after he gets bought out
Splitter has been out injured all season.
I sure hope they have a bigger plan in place. This makes no sense the picks are mostly nothing. Another center? Even in the short run Ersan is a better fit and need. So confused sixers!
They want to lose games and give Saric more playing time. Ilyasova was playing well but wasn’t in the long term plans
I believe they are trying to make more playing time for Sarim, who as of late has been playing better than Ilyaskova. I think it also was a situation where they aren’t going to resign him anyway, maybe negotiations for his next contract wasn’t what the sixers would be willing to pay for him. Why not get two picks?
One pick. The other one is a pick swap, which doesn’t add a pick (and given how ATL seems to be going, the swap may never happen).
Depends on the picks being swapped.6ers 2nd belongs to Sacramento, but we have the best and worst between Utah,Detroit,New York and Golden states.the Hawks own Brooklyns as well as their own.if we’re swapping for Brooklyns, its pretty likely to ne pick 1 of round 2.Miamis 2nd is protected 31-40.
So basically they get a 2nd round pic let Ersan go who wasn’t in the plans for next year and prob will let Tiago go in the end anyway.
As much as I like Jerami Grant, I wish we would have kept Ilyasova.
Hinkie scouting department looking good today:
#55 Jordan McRae still in the league, offered in a trade. UDFA Hollis Thompson back in the league on a 10-day. Book closes on Jerami Grant, early second round pick converted into OKC20(x20) & 2 2nd round picks.
Wonder if we’ll ever get the draft night story on Okafor?
A decent amount of stories out there that say ownership was okay with KAT, D-Russ, or Okafor with the 3rd pick. They did not want KP, they wanted to avoid the negative press about drafting another international player. Also, his agent, Andy Miller, also reps Noel and did not allow KP to workout for Philly in the fear that they would take minutes from each other and reduce both of their values. Hinkie was 1 of 2 GMs (Presti was other) who actually attempted to convince KP to come into draft the previous year, assuming he promised he would draft him with one of the picks they had. All in all, a lot of evidence points to Hinkie wanting KP but not being able to draft him.
Its a cap trade. Basically Philly makes this deal gets a 2nd rounder and gets closer to the cap floor. Also for the last 5 games or so Dario Saric has basically been playing starter minutes on the bench.
Theres only a 100k difference between their salaries
Saric is very good, and is a very similar player to Ilyasova, so I guess I see that, now that I know Ilya is on an expiring, makes sense.
They are not similar at all. Saric is a much better ball handler and passer than Ilyasova. He probably doesn’t shoot the 3 as good as Ilyasova but he’s much better.
But to give Steve credit they are both tall, white and have funny names. That’s how we compare players right?
Very simple. This a hinkie move. Basically got a first and 2 seconds for Grant. TTP
Thank GOD BABY
This trade isn’t that hard to understand. Trading Ilysova opens up more minutes for Saric and anyone else who is going to play the 4. He’s a free agent at the end of the year, and were probably unlikely to resign him so they were essentially able to get a second round pick (with the potential to get a better second rounder via swap) for him (while also taking Splitter, just to make salaries match). If Splitter doesn’t see the court at all in Philly, then there’s no harm done either. If they buy out Splitter, it gives them an opportunity to sign a developmental guy or to check out some players on 10 day contracts.
Perfectly stated. All in all a good trade for the Sixers and a nice addition to the Hawks rotation. A stretch 4 that can score off the bench and can play in small lineups with Millsap at the 5
Something for nothing. They can take a look at him if they really want him in the Off-season. But unlikely due to $$ and Saric.
