The Sixers were close to a deal with the Trail Blazers when Jahlil Okafor was held out of the lineup, tweets David Aldridge of TNT.
Okafor sat out last Saturday and didn’t accompany the team on a flight to Charlotte for Monday’s game. A trade appeared imminent at the time, but nothing happened and he rejoined the Sixers on Wednesday.
Aldridge says the deal that nearly took place involved Portland, although he doesn’t speculate on what Philadelphia would have received in return. The Blazers and Nuggets finalized a trade Monday that sent Jusuf Nurkic and a 2017 first-round draft pick to Portland in exchange for Mason Plumlee, a 2018 second-rounder and cash. Presumably, that deal ended the Blazers’ interest in Okafor.
Clearly it wasn’t going to be for plumlee in return, that leaves only better talent than okafor and stinxers aren’t going to give up a pick for crabbe.. colangelo needs to realize Okafor isn’t going to net you a top 10 pick especially in this draft.. his defensive liabilities just out weigh his positive ones for most teams..
You hit the nail right on the head….Portland’s defense is terrible to begin with…need a shotblocker and Okafor isn’t it.
This is why trusting the process is flawed. Assets aren’t worth what we thought. Sixers need to stay in the tank because once again the best case scenario is failing. Sacramento winning, Lakers losing so if they continue winning they get a 7 or 8 pick and only one this year.
It’s no more flawed than any other “process” a team would take to compete. FA is flawed, draft is flawed, even super teams are flawed.
The Sixers still have their pick this year and have sacs pick in 2019 and the lakers pick next year. It wasn’t all about this year. The only issue with this process was the glut of centers (and rumors were hinkie had a deal for Okafor last deadline but got nixed by management) and now this rumor was more BC overplaying his hand (oh and by the way, BC was never part of the process) and the injury issues with Simmons and Embiid. Outside of that, why is this process anymore flawed than any other process? It’s not. It’s actually one of the better ways to win since a super star is the key to winning. Best way to get a super star is get more picks and high picks.
The Process only works when Sam Hinkie was in charge. He wanted to flip Okafor to Boston last year at the deadline but so many people were against him the organization. Now look at Okafor his trade value has plummeted.
That is exactly the flaw lakers and kings picks in 2019 might not be top ten. As a sixer fan I agree can’t make final judgement until after 2019 draft.
That laker pick goes to the Sixers in this draft if its outside the top3. In 2018 its unprotected.
