FEBRUARY 21, 9:03am: The Suns have expressed interest in discussing a Favors deal with the Jazz, per Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune. Utah isn’t considered overly likely to part with the power forward, however, as Jones writes.
FEBRUARY 20, 9:10pm: The Jazz have tested the market for Derrick Favors over the past several weeks, Zach Lowe of ESPN.com writes. However, it’s unclear how serious Utah is about moving the former No. 3 overall pick.
Lowe adds that the franchise is “all-in” to keep Gordon Hayward and it doesn’t want to weaken the team this season since it’s in good position to make the playoffs. The scribe adds that the team could be testing the market for Favors now to set up a trade around the draft.
The Jazz currently have roughly $13MM in cap room, but they have several players in line for raises next season. Rudy Gobert‘s massive extension becomes effective this summer and George Hill will join Hayward as a free agent. If the team can re-sign both Hill and Hayward, it may need to shed salary elsewhere.
Favors doesn’t play many minutes alongside Gobert, a player who is clearly in the team’s long-term plans. The 25-year-old power forward is having a middling season by his standards, averaging just 9.2 points per game while sporting a 15.3 player efficiency rating.
Favors is still a very good big man know this league, just struggling because playing power forward next Gobert. I think he’d be a nice pick up if for a low price.
he won’t be a low price though. he’d cost a lot, probably a little bit more than Serge Ibaka costed.
The real story in this is the free agency of Gordon Hayward and his College coach being with a team that can sign him.
Hopefully the Celtics can get Butler from the Bulls or George from the Pacers taking them out of the Hayward market.
The Celtics already have quality wings. I love Hayward but they have do many young quality wings. What they need is a big guy to play next to horford
I would love to get Favors on the Bucks. Maybe Monroe, Beasley and 2018 1st (Top 10 Protected) for Favors and Diaw. This gives Utah’s 2nd unit some more offensive fire power and clears up some cap space next season since Monroe will likely opt out. They also gain another 1st in 2018 for some cheap additional depth once Gobert and Hayward’s deals kick in.
If the bucks do that they’ll have like 10 big men on the roster with Henson, maker, hawes, hibbert, diaw, and favors that’s ridiculous
Hibbert will get waived. Henson can still be moved and Diaw will be gone at the end of this season.
Agreed
Back to Brooklyn as part of a package for Lopez?
Personally, idk why Utah would do that.
Better offensive production…if the jazz could sneak 12 to 15 minutes out of lopez and gobert together then there’s enough time for both big guys. Mainly lopez’s low post game and his new found 3 would help the jazz a lot, as of now with favors hurt we have no low post.
Or maybe back to the Nets to play beside Lopez? Could trade Booker, Bogdanovic, one of their young guards (possibly) and a 2nd round pick for Favors?
Favors is still a young talent. Kings, Brooklyn, or Portland could use him.
Favors is very good, every year till this one he’s been solid. And it’s just bc of injuries
“The Jazz currently have roughly $13MM in cap room, but they have several players whom should see raises next season.”
Whom? Really? Where did you learn that, Chris?
What exactly are you mad about?
Or whom are you mad at? Haha jk jk.
What are the Jazz’s needs atm? Could a Lou and Young for the Lakers get em Favors? Not sure what they would have to add if that isnt enough but would love to see Favors in purple and gold
No it would have to have a pick but that doesn’t really work for LAL because their picks are too valuable for Favors.
I dont think they would need a pick as the Jazz have to go deep in the playoffs if they wanna convince Hayward to resign
I wonder if the Jazz would take on Brandon Knight, PJ Tucker, and Phoenix’s high 2nd this year for Favors. The Jazz are far enough under the cap that they could do that easily.
They’re saving cap for Hayward, Hill, and Gobert’s raise. Taking on Knight would guarantee one of Hill or Hayward is gone.
Not sure what the deal could look like, but Favors would be a really good fit for Phoenix at the 5.
Ray ray they wouldn’t do that….as Suns fan that would be awesome but won’t happen. You’d have to give up a 1st or two 1st (Miami picks) and a young 4 either bender or chriss but will have to add tucker cause they are also in the playoffs so it has to be intriguing to both sides.
