He won’t be a free agent until after the 2018/19 season, but Klay Thompson has switched agencies; making the leap from BDA Sports to Wasserman. According to Liz Mullen of Sports Business Daily, Greg Lawrence of Wasserman will be Thompson’s lead agent.
Thompson had previously been represented by Rade Filipovich and Bill Duffy of BDA Sports. Thompson will immediately become Lawrence’s highest profile client. According to RealGM (link), Lawrence’s longest tenured clients are Dorell Wright, J.J. Redick, and Spencer Hawes.
Thompson is currently in the second year of a four-year, $68,979,450 pact with Golden State. Thompson’s rate of $16,663,575 is second on the team to Kevin Durant, who will earn $26,540,100 this season. Thompson has averaged 21.8 points on 41.8% 3-point shooting through 53 games in 2016/17.
The Warriors, who have a total cap of $99,689,888, will have eight players become unrestricted free agents at season’s end; the most notable being Stephen Curry.
He will be the odd man out. Curry is the top guy and then Durant. Can’t pay everyone. But he will get paid elsewhere. Perhaps Philly?
Depends on that situation. Boston would be someone who would be in on him if they don’t have a star yet, but by then they’ll have to resign their own guys and I don’t see how that fits in the cap.
Los
Angeles
Lakers
Period.
Just about every team is going to want him unless his scoring and defense falls off a cliff. He has a skill that usually ages well, shooting, and can play the 2 or 3 so most teams could fit him on their roster someway. I don’t even think it will come down to money for him (although it will weed out a couple of suitors). Honestly, its too early to say where he’ll go.
Boston doesn’t have what it would take to acquire him. Not sure anyone does. If he hits FA then he could choose Boston. Don’t see him as a Boston guy though. I agree with the guy above – Lakers could be a perfect fit.
I sure hope so
Hahaha what a stupid photo
Wow, look at the fantasy comments! Klay Thompson isn’t going anywhere. He has said time and time again he doesn’t even have interest in playing elsewhere. The Warriors need thompson, and they will pay him. Thompson doesn’t have the desire to the head of the team, he wants to win championships. If that means klay makes $18-22M instead of the max, that’s what klay will do. Let’s not forget klay drove a hand me down accord while he was making $10M+ a year. Not everyone has dollar signs for eyeballs. Part of the reason everyone hates the Warriors is their selflessness, and that extends beyond the court. Curry, Thompson and green could spend their entire career in the bay area, and the Warriors can pay them, and players like David west and Zaza will take close to the minimum to play with them.
Keep dreaming!
Exactly, Klay has stated that he wants to stay, and the Warriors said they intend to give him an extension after Steph and KD are taken care of.
This is why the Warriors willbe able to keep their all-stars.. Guys actually want to take less money to play.
Curry even said that if he complains about making $11 million a year then he would be a terrible person. Even though he will likely make max next year, this is still a testament to his character and the Warrior motto.
Pachulia also said recently that he will take a small payday to return as well. A guy who could easily make $8-10MM
Kevin Durant stated he wanted to stay with the thunder and so many other players have said the same aswell. Things change during free agency.
Lol I’m glad someone commented about people dreaming Klay would leave, i think they can go over cap to keep players like the cavs anyway. But I could see warriors, klay, steph, durant, and iggy and Livingston taking less to keep it together. I think Lebron cares a lot about being the richest nba player and wants to be seen as a business mogul and wants others to know he is worth more, but the Warriors guys, while they aren’t gonna take mid level exception I could see them taking a couple million less in order to have a good 5-6 yr run of being in title game every year. I wish they could keep javale after this year too but I’m sure he has earned and will probably take a better deal, Zaza and west already took discounts, there will be good role players who want to play in prime time and win that will fill out the roster again. It’s easy to say we would all turn down extra millions, especially when we don’t see how they really only make half of that, but if I had to pick a few guys that would it would be these guys from this team.
I could see Livingston leaving. Considering the way his career has gone, he might value getting one more big payday before calling it quits. Iggy is harder to figure out. On the one hand, I think he would be willing to take less to stay in GS. On the other, teams will undoubtedly offer more than the Warriors. Chasing a championship is probably no longer the sole decision maker (such as for David West) so it really does come down to if Iggy and Livingston value possibly winning another ring, or more, or leaving and getting one final payday. Every player says they want to stick together and try to make a run at it again but money talks. Its easier for bonafide superstars like Curry, Klay, and KD to say they’re going to take less because they can make up that lost money through endorsements. Guys like Iggy and Livingston however are less likely to make up that money through outside sources.
