The Lakers are finalizing a deal with longtime player agent Rob Pelinka to be the team’s new GM, but he wasn’t the organization’s first choice for the job. Current Warriors GM Bob Myers was the team’s top choice for the gig, but the Lakers didn’t have confidence that Myers would be willing to leave Golden State, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
Here’s more from Los Angeles:
- The Lakers had multiple offers which included first-round picks on the table for Lou Williams over the past few weeks, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com reports (Twitter links). Shelburne adds that the team was so confident that it could net a first-rounder, it offered that pick in DeMarcus Cousins negotiations.
- President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson said that he’s “already talked to five GM’s” and added that he’ll be the person handling trade inquiries going forward for the Lakers, as Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News relays (Twitter link).
- Corey Brewer didn’t expect the Rockets to trade him this season, but he’s looking forward to a new opportunity with the Lakers, as Mark Berman of Fox 26 passes along (Twitter link). “Yeah, I was shocked.“ Brewer said. “I’m going to be a Laker. So I have to make the most of that opportunity. I can talk to the young guys and try to help them. Brandon Ingram is going to be a really good player. So hopefully, I can take him under my wing, help him develop and be one of the best.”
Call me crazy but what about this for a Laker trade
Lakers give up: Mosgov, Clarkson, 1st round pick from the Rockets
Pistons give up: Drummond, Bullock
Wishful thinking? Maybe extra picks to the Pistons but I think it at least gets Detroit thinking
A talented player like he is should get a good return. Why would they want mozgov with his contact.
Extremely wishful thinking. Mozgov has negative trade value because of his contract so a first round pick or an appealing player has to be attached to trade him. On top of that, Clarkson and the Rockets pick (late first rounder) isn’t enough for Drummond alone, let alone adding Mozgov.
To get the ball rolling, the Lakers would probably have to offer (and I’m assuming Russell and Ingram would be off the table, although it would make the deal easier to do if one of them were included) Randle, Nance, Clarkson, and first round picks (although the Rockets pick isn’t that valuable and the Lakers picks aren’t that valuable either since I believe the earliest first rounder they can trade is 2019…or is it 2021…and they can be a completely different and better team by then). Can throw in Mozgov/Deng in there if needed for salary purposes. Now if the Lakers were willing to trade Ingram or Russell, that could change things up a lot. Like I could see the Pistons offering Jackson and Drummond if Russell was offered (along with most, if not all, of those assets I listed above) while also taking on one of Deng/Mozgov more eagerly.
Clarkson is a good bench player, not much more. Mozgov has negative trade value. Clarkson and Mozgov straight up for bullock might even out due to his negative value.
Alright alright, mayb have low balled it a little but what about Ingram, Clarkson (salary purposes), Rockets first, and maybe another first or 2 seconds. Pistons would get a potential stud, good back up PG a pick in a deep draft and more pick(s)
Now that’s too much
No other picks or just a second?
Haha.. now you went to far the other way
guys, things are simple. lakers wants to lose, to keep our pick. we’re sellers, so no Drummond, no anything like that. we’ll see about upgrading during summer time.
I like the Drummond trade thought. Pelinka (our new Gm) is his agent. He’s pissed Detroit is shopping him. Pistons would need mozgov to offset drummonds max deal. I think nance, clarkson, mozgov, rockets first and a second for Drummond and a throw in is actually fair and would work. Van gundy loves athletic 4s like nance. We can’t resign nance cause he’s gonna want big bucks and is a role player.
Any trade involving Mozgov and/or Deng “aint gonna happen.”
