The Lakers are shopping Lou Williams and it’s likely they move him before the trade deadline, Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype reports. Kennedy speculates that Cleveland could be a fit for the veteran. The Cavs have an open roster spot after trading Chris Andersen to the Hornets.
Williams, who will make $7MM both this season and next, is having a solid year off the bench for Los Angeles. He’s averaging 18.4 points per game while shooting 38.2% from behind the arc. He is also sporting a career-high 23.4 player efficiency rating.
The Lakers owe their first-round pick to the Sixers if it falls outside the top three. Kennedy notes that if the team deals Williams, it will have a better shot at keeping its pick.
If Ibaka can bring a first round pick plus young talent he should be able to as well
Yeah, way better contract too. This won’t be a gimme like Korver.
I really don’t like the idea of getting rid of one of our best and most consistent players especially since he is under contract on more year. I had envisioned the Lakers turning this around and Lou being apart of that but at this point I think it’s safe to say that they will not turn it around by time he is a free agent so I guess it makes sense to try to get something in return for him. Hopefully they can get a pick for him since they might lose their first round pick. I’m guess they’ll try to trade Nick Young as well. I can’t help but wonder when they’ll ever turn this team around. I see flashes of a bright further here and there but I think they are still a ways away unless they can somehow get a star player or two but I don’t see that happening and now they are going to lose one or two of their best players at the trade deadline it seems. Only think good that MIGHT come out of getting rid of Williams and Young is that they suck even worse and they end up getting a top 3 pick so they get to keep that pick instead of sending it to Phili.
Well they start guys 21 and under. To be discouraged is to not be paying attention to what is going on. These guys are kids. As long as they keep working and improving we are on the right track. This year is critical. If things go well we will have our First and another first they get for Lou. Another elite draft pick and now we are off. Then after next season I see the Lakers possibly trading one of the young guys who isn’t fitting well with the group along with the 2019 pick in the first to acquire a top tier veteran.
Personally I like the idea of Josh Jackson , and Randall at forwards, Ingram and Russell at guards , and Zubac and Black in the middle. All we need is one of these guys to step up and be everything he can be.
Cavs basically have nothing to trade though. Maybe McRae or Felder I guess, I really don’t know
As a lakers fan, I say get what you can for Williams and keep up the losing. We can’t afford to lose our pick this year.
Makes no sense to keep the guy, he is a player in win now mode. The Spurs would be a phenomenal fit for him for some veteran leadership and plus he could be a scorer San Antonio needs right now beyond Leonard and Aldridge.
Williams to OKC makes a lot of sense. I’m not sure the Lakers would get much back other than a 2nd rounder or two and saving money for next offseason.
They already have Payne
Your point? Lou is more of an off guard compared to Payne. Not too mention Lou > Payne.
Lou and young to thunder for their first this year, Payne, and Morrow. Lou adds a guy who can create his own shot and bring pressure off of Westbrook. Young is a deadly shooter who has vastly improved his defense this year, lakers get a pick, a vet on a cheap deal, and a young PG with potential to backup D-Lo or potentially start for us in the future.
They should trade him to the lowest pick between okc charlotte and Chicago. If they get Fultz or Ball they can move d-Russ to the the 2 and that would be great. Plus if Kupcheck can steal Clarkson Zubac and Nance late in the draft imagine what they’ll grab with a pick in the teens in a deep draft. Plus tradin Lou will help them keep the pick which is the most important thing right now. I get pissed every time they win a game.
Wizards, get this man
Wizards also good call
Also they can try to package mosgov with him to clear cap space but if they do they can only get a 2nd
This would be ideal, of they could move mozgov, it is a HUGE move. Deng still plays 20 min behind Ingram while Mozgov doesn’t play at all. Not sure if any team would take Mozgov though, that is a big problem.
Wiz fans have been talking about wanting him. Doubt there’s any way we get him for less than a first but that could be worth it. This guy is ageless.
It doesn’t really matter if the Cavs have an open roster spot…they’ll have to send out salary to acquire Williams, they don’t have a TPE big enough for him.
Wizards would be a good spot for Lou! Specially since the wizards are looking like a serious playoff team as of late.
While trying to get some worth out of Lou’s efficient play and incredibly affordable contract in today’s salary cap, I think this shows the Lakers wanna expand D’Angelo’s and even JC’s numbers to really see what the core is made of
Spurs lakers trade
Lakers get kyle anderson, david lee, tony parker,2018 first round draft pick
Spurs get lou williams, nick young, thomas robinson
Why would the spurs trade Parker
David Lee > Thomas Robinson. And while Lou Williams and Nick Young give them shooters, neither are exactly ball distributors. So at that point, you’re talking Patty Mills starting? Who is the backup? Also, purely out of respect for him, the Spurs aren’t going to trade Parker.
Hornets need a pg/sg off the bench with sessions hurt. They need more backcourt scoring in general.
The Cavs will have to sign a guy off of the street. Why they haven’t yet, bewilders me. They could literally just 10-day contract some guys until they find the fit. These games mean jack to them, so using any kind of ball-handler to take away some minutes from Kyrie and LeBron would benefit the team. Cole, Chalmers, Jack, Hinrich, Martin, Neal, Josh Smith?
Come to Brooklyn !!!
smh…Cavs fans think they can get whoever lol.
okafor for Lou straight up.
Baaahahaha. Then we’d have 2 7 footers on the bench. I take Zubac right now over Okafor.
The Jazz make sense, backup guard play has been our biggest problem, we have expiring contracts, lots of picks (3 1st and 3 2nds in 2017), sweet Lou Williams to the Jazz for Shelvin Mack and a pick?
It’s a shame this new CBA has players trapped as they would lose millions if they changed teams, Lakers need to lose 20 out out the remaking games about 25 to keep the pick and maybe move up. Make some trade that gets picks w/o giving up Zu/Ingram/Dlo
