The Timberwolves have “strong interest” in dealing for Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert, tweets Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.
Minnesota has been in the market for veteran wing help all season and tried to acquire Shumpert in October, according to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News in Minneapolis (Twitter link). The Wolves have point guard depth with Ricky Rubio, Tyus Jones and Kris Dunn all on the roster and could help Cleveland with its search for a backup ballhandler.
Shumpert is under contract for two more years and will make $10.3MM next season and $11MM in 2018/19. The 26-year-old has played 51 games for Cleveland this season, starting 15, and is averaging 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per night. He has spent two years with the Cavs after being acquired in a 2015 deal with the Knicks.
Shumpert and a 2nd round pick for Rubio could be mutually beneficial. Cavs have the TPE to make it happen
No way
No, they don’t have a TPE worth $13.55MM
rxbrgr you’re right. I forgot you couldn’t use a TPE to cover the difference in salaries
Tyus Jones and Jordan Hill for Shumpert and a pick
Why don’t you just go straight up Shunpert got Tyus
I just don’t think the money will matchup on the T-Wolves end
Because Shumpert is still better than Tyus Jones. As big of a factor as money is, Cleveland isn’ going to take less value just to clear some luxury tax.
Take Rubio, give up Shump. No brainer.
Even better, get Butler if Chicago will take Shump.
Lol what
What
This will be the trade
Minnesota get
Iman Shumpert-SG
DeAndre Liggins-SG
Jordan McRae-SG
Cleveland get
Ricky Rubio-PG
True dat
No way does Cleveland just give TWolves two 3-D players and a throw in just for Rubio. Two wing Defenders of that caliber for a backup PG with zero D would be a horrible trade for the Cavs. A HUGE win for the TWolves though.
I think that would make the most sense. I love the kind of year that Shump is having but I doubt you can get a PG more capable than Rubio.
More like a Shumpert for J. Hill/T.Jones type deal. Minnesota is below the cap so can take on a good deal of salary so that doesn’t matter.
I doubt Rubio for Shumpert and garbage. Rubio plays almost 35mpg and it always in during crunch time. Why would the give him away for the same contract/age but lesser player?
Yes^. Cavs need a play maker and a big man some cap relief. Then they can control tyus on his rookie contract
I would think the Cavs want a veteran PG not JUST a PG. Rubio makes sense although he has some shooting limitations. Until JR comes back I would even consider putting him on the floor with Irving sometimes and let Irving play SG
Cavs want a winner. Not a couple rookies or Rubio
Tyus can shoot but he can’t play defense and is Inexperienced, cavs probably would want Rubio if they were going to give up shumpert. I would like to see tyus on cavs though he can def knock down shots. Would like to see shumpert play more and be allowed to do more and not just be a fringe piece. Regardless cavs aren’t repeating this year and we all know that, it’s ok to lie to yourself if you love them but deep down when you lay your head down at night you know warriprs are by far the best team this year
Rubio sucks. He can’t shoot or drive to the hole. It’s amazing that he still starts on an NBA team. Shumpert is better than him.
