Carmelo Anthony wants another face-to-face meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson after the season, according to Fred Kerber of The New York Post. Anthony is seeking clarity on his future in New York after the team reportedly discussed trading him to the Celtics, Cavaliers or Clippers before last week’s deadline. Any of those deals would have required Anthony to waive his no-trade clause.
Anthony wants to address the rest of this season before discussing his next move. “I don’t think right now,” he said. “Right now we’ve got to sit down and kind of finish these games and go back down to the drawing board after this season.”
There’s more news out of New York:
- Anthony wasn’t notified before Brandon Jennings was waived on Monday, but said he understands not being part of every personnel decision, Kerber relays in the same piece. Jennings had requested the move and agreed to a buyout so he could join a contender. He signed with the Wizards earlier today. “As players we don’t really know what happens behind closed doors unless they bring it to us,” Anthony said. “That wasn’t something that they brought to us.”
- Derrick Rose‘s desire to play for a winner will affect his decisions in free agency this summer, writes Marc Berman of The New York Post. Rose plans to address that topic with Knicks management during his exit meeting. “We had extremely high expectations for this team,” Rose said. “The reality is, I can’t get mad at it. If anything it’s a learning experience. I have to learn from it.’’ Rose can sign an extension with New York before the start of free agency July 1st, but the team has been disappointed with his performance since last summer’s trade with Chicago and may not want to make a long-term commitment.
- Coach Jeff Hornacek has incorporated Jackson’s triangle offense more frequently as the season wears on, and big man Kristaps Porzingis believes that’s the right approach, Berman writes in a separate story. “We should’ve been playing it from the beginning of the season,’’ Porzingis said. “We’re a little behind. I don’t know when we can finally start using it properly and making an impact.”
Knicks winning meaningless games hope they can get a good player with a low lottery pick
Knicks finally played the correct starting lineup for the first time all season. And Porzingis, Melo, and Rose all benefitted from the space on the floor, and their defense also was quicker and more disruptive.
I dont understand how they can talk about adding even more triangle and slow paced play, when the 2 big lineups were clearly not working nearly as well as it does with only 1 big, as I’ve been saying all year, and what we’ve seen demonstrated in these last 3 games or so.
Rose will re-sign with the Knicks, Armstrong said he wants to stay there I don’t see why he wouldn’t. No team needs him more then the Knicks since they need a guard to take pressure off Melo and Porzingis, we dont need Jrue Holiday. If the Knicks let Rose leave several teams will pounce on him like the Spurs,Nets,Kings, even the Bulls might bring him back since they lack a true starting point guard.
Derrick Rose is not a true starting point guard. He’s probably in the 20-25 range of players at the position league wide, which makes him below average. Teams can do much better than the lack of three point shooting, passing, and defense he provides night in and night out.
Rose is a leader bro dont be so quick to judge, the dude was once an NBA MVP, even if he does not have the level of athleticism he once had he is still very skilled and not old by any means. Playing with Melo is not the easiest thing in the world, Billups was somewhat successful playing with him in Denver and the AI Melo tandem never really panned out but Rose has been fantastic this season, the Knicks just need to focus on keeping Porzingis healthy and keep giving him
More and more playing time, Rose, Melo,Porzingis and Lee are fine right where they are.
Dionis, I notice you constantly comment on these HoopRumors updates, and every time I read one of your responses I find myself convinced that you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Both by the eye test, and by any advanced statistic, Rose has been a league average player at best this season. For the money he will ask for in free agency, the Knicks would be crazy to bring him back on a long term deal, ESPECIALLY if they are adamant about running the Triangle. With that said, nothing Phil Jackson does as a GM will amaze me. He’s lost.
2 bigs clogging the lanes mears there’s no space for Rose to attack. Whenever he tries, there’s 3 or 4 people surrounding him near the paint. I’m not saying Derrick Rose is still MVP derrick Rose, but he isn’t as bad as people are trying to say that he is
Rose already said he isnt worried about getting max money
So there’s the Owner, President/GM, Coach, and Assistant Coaches…. then the Players. How is he not getting a face-to-face on a regular basis? Whenever you’re in NYC you can get a face-to-face. Who is Phil meeting with? Trade deadline is over. He isn’t going to watch March Madness outside of his living room. You can go upstairs and see him at the freaking water cooler.
