Most people around the Bulls organization expect shooting guard Dwyane Wade to opt in for next season, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. Wade will make $23.8MM if he stays put and declines to re-enter the free agent market. Wade’s role for next season could be a determining factor, as Johnson notes that Wade often served as the anchor to the second unit in second-quarter situations. Coach Fred Hoiberg alienated Joakim Noah during the 2015/16 campaign by demoting him to the second unit, Johnson adds. Wade has until June 27th to decide whether to enter the free agent market, Johnson relays via The Vertical’s Bobby Marks.
In other developments around the Central Division:
North Carolina center Tony Bradley and BYU center/power forward Eric Mika were among the players who worked out for the Bucks on Tuesday, Gerry Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times tweets.- The Pistons will ideally draft a knock-down 3-point shooter or a perimeter player who can make plays off the dribble with the No. 12 overall pick, as Keith Langlois of Pistons.com details.
- The Pacers need to re-sign Jeff Teague but the cost will be substantial, according to Jay Siskin of AmicoHoops.net. Teague, who made $8MM this past season, will get a huge raise as he heads into the free agent market for the first time. While Teague enjoys playing for his hometown team, point-guard starved teams such as the Nets, Magic, Mavericks and Knicks could make runs at him and drive up his pricetag, Siskin adds.
- Jimmy Butler‘s contract is a bargain for an All-Star player, which is a big reason why the Bulls should hold onto him, Marks writes in his Summer Agenda series. Butler has three years and $56MM remaining on his contract, with the final year being a player option. The uncertainty surrounding Butler has more to do with franchise’s questionable roster decisions and coaching changes rather than Butler’s productivity, Marks adds.
Jimmy Butler before he got a shot is what Jackson is, so if he can develop a shot, thats the comp ceiling. Floor is bench role / D guard.
Wtf? Dude are you high?
Dude your posts never are good. Just post anonymously.
Perfect comparison but I think JJ has a little better shot off the dribble with his floater and a decent mid range game. JB had neither coming into the league. With the proper coaching I can see Jackson being a Barnes (GSW) type player. Not athletic but perfect system would make him a viable option.
Wade should come off the bench and let Valentine start. Make Portis the permanent starter at the 4 and I guess stick with Rondo at point.
That team wins 35 games. Be good or be bad.
So let me get this straight…you want a proven scorer who can get you 15-20 when he plays for a rookie who barely had any success? Portis? Has he done anything to show he’s consistent and capable of being a quality 4? He shows up 2 games and goes MIA in 3-5 games. Better solution would be sign Bosh/Millsap and keep Butler. Let Valentine develop off the bench and groom him.
PG Rondo
SG Wade
SF Butler
PF Millsap preferably
C Lopez
Let Niko walk he’s not worth the headache. Worst P
Of course Wade isn’t going anywhere. No other team is stupid enough to pay this old (for basketball standards) man almost $24 million dollars per year.
In fact, he’d be lucky to get half of that. His career is over, and his legs are shot. At this point in his career, he’s an 8th man, that should see 15 minutes per game.
He’s just using the Bulls as his career payday. Couldn’t stand the primadonna when he was with the Heat, and can’t stand him now.
He’s just holding this team in the mediocre zone. He needs to go, and he can take his “superstar,” Butler, with him.
I don’t understand people who insist bad teams hold on to a highly paid player when it’s clear the roster won’t win and can’t improve anytime soon. Trades are essentially the only way to initiate change for teams in the Eastern conference. Maintaining the status quo has been a death sentence for these organizations. The only person it benefits is LeBron and his hopeless obsession with supplanting MJ at all costs.
Reinsdorf is too loyal, definitely too a fault. The White Sox should have fired Robin and rebuilt years ago. Same with GarPax, instead of young and athletic (as promised) they went old and dysfunctional signing Wade and Rondo. The Sox and the Bulls will be irrelevant for many, many MORE years to come.
I don’t agree with you about the Sox. With KW out of the way, and Hahn initiating the rebuild (finally), the Sox will be relevant within 2 to 4 years. It would be my dream to see the White Sox make a run at Machado or Harper when they become FAs, but we all know how Jerry feels about top dollar players.
