Kevin Durant recently spoke with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated to discuss his decision to join the Warriors and his future with the team. Here are the highlights from the piece:
On whether or not he has any regrets about leaving the Thunder:
I made the 100 percent correct decision, win or lose. I feel like this is the place I was supposed to be. I appreciate everything I’ve done before this. But I’m here now, and I feel like it’s a great spot for me to be. This is where I am supposed to be at this point of my life. I’m taking it on and conquering every part of it. I’m enjoying every single step.
On where he’ll be playing next season (He can become a free agent this summer by turning down the player option in his contract):
I love it here. I love my teammates. I love the city [of Oakland]. I love the organization. I love it here. I don’t plan on going anywhere else
On the criticism he received for making the decision to join the Warriors:
I try to play the right way and handle myself the right way. I am just confused as to why that stuff doesn’t matter more than what happens on Twitter or whatever the topic of discussion is each day. I think it takes away from what is most important: that ball and that basket, everything in between the lines. I don’t expect anyone who has never been there before to understand that.
On whether or not the criticism will ever stop:
Somebody is always going to disagree. Somebody is always going to discredit. It’s just a part of life. When you want to do it for each other and for friends and family, that’s when it’s purer than anything.
On the best thing about playing for the Warriors:
You have people here who realize that the most important thing is it’s a game. You have fun. But you also should be passionate and dedicated. That is what everybody’s vision is.
I cant find the glory in Durant winning this year, he was set up for a historical run last season upsettint the Spurs and on brink of eliminating GS and choked and then he joined the team that beat him? Thats like Lebron joining Boston after they beat him 2010. Just go back to OKC bruh, I’m rooting for Lebron to show you a lesson in the Finals.
Salt
Nah how do you have a player the caliber of Westbrook and leave that behind? Thats why we cant compare Lebron’s departure with this dude because Lebron never had a star the caliber of Russ in his first stint in Cleveland. Literally KD was set up to beat the Warriors and instead made the NBA super boring and top heavy, whos really going to celebrate or care if GS wins this year? I sure wont, literally people will quit on you on 2k if you pick the Warriors, ITS NOT FAIR you have 2 MVP’s, what could be the best spot up shooter ever in Klay Thompson and Green is the most versatile big man in the game like how do you beat that?
I think you just listed reasons KD left OKC for GS: playing with that talent who are also unselfish. Like it or not, KD’s game plays perfectly with GS’s style of play (ball movement, unselfish teammates, spacing) vs playing with Russ.
I think that you misunderstand where Russel Westbrook stands in all of this. You claim that he should have stayed because of Russ when in fact its likely he was a factor that pushed KD away. Its a different type of play and it wasn’t a fit.
You’re right that its different with GS than with Lebron and the Heat but not for the reasons you mentioned. Its different because the stars on GS that KD joined were all drafted and developed in there not signed or traded for. Steph Draymond and Klay are homegrown thats why they play so well together.
kd is the selfish one,if he had passed the ball in the western finals the team would have advanced
Biggest b in pro sports
Facts
no respect for this dude.
Cheap ring
How can anyone respect this snake? Dude is spineless
If GS can blow a 3-1 lead maybe they can blow a 3-0 lead to SA
I fricken love Durant. You are all just hating
I wouldn’t wanna play with Westbrook either.
He left because why would anyone want to play alongside Westbrook who is one of the most selfish players ever. If it was another very good player in OKC he probably wouldn’t have left. He left to play in a better environment and you can’t blame him for that. You only live once.
Dude Russ just averaged 31 10 10 and lead Oklahoma, Russ was never the problem, he was always the alpha in OKC. KD is NO Alpha or 1st option, if the Warriors win this season Curry is Finals MVP but no worries Lebron will win it again
You’re an idiot. Read before you reply. Its not just stats, its playstyle but mostly personality.
There’s no modesty with Westbrook, dude wanna talk about fashion week all the time and dress like a woman, what kind of man is so obsessed with fashion?? He’s vain, full of himself and like mentioned before, selfish.
You a idiot you little keyboard bully
Boohoo, thats why you don’t have a response.
Reply to ignorance sure
don’t matter if he’s selfish he’s amazing, the best pg in the league in 5 years(except MVP D. Rose.
Durant is oblivious and missing the point just like Lebron did years back. It’s not that he left it’s how he did it. If he would just man up and admit he went to GSW for a ring he wouldn’t get so much criticism.
Instead he keeps hiding behind this nonsense charade that GSW is a utopian loving family that gives each other tender cuddles every night while all 29 other teams are run like Walmart. Please.
Durant wants to play with choke artists man he dont wanna play with no alphas like Russ
The same apla sitting at home babysitting right now? Yeah my guess is Durant is pretty happy he’ll be playing in the NBA Finals next week.
Yea sure it only took joining a 2 time MVP who will go down the greatest 3 point shooter ever. The best backcourt of all time.
He coulda won with Boston but culture is important..
One thing I learned in my professional career is that the jobs I enjoy doing the most are the ones where I enjoyed the people I worked with the most. Success is great too but I’d rather enjoy myself than deal with the Westbrooks of the world.
You’re just drinking the same Durant koolaid. I get why he left OKC. That doesn’t explain why he chose GSW over 28 other teams. He wanted a ring and he wanted to join the best team. And that’s fine. He should just stop lying about it.
in order for Durant to not ruin his legacy he has to get 3 championships and be finals MVP in each one
easy money sniperrrrrrrr!! my guy
