Clippers free agent J.J. Redick will get a lot of interest from the Eastern Conference, and the Sixers may be the leading contender, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. In a video posted on the Vertical website, several analysts offer their visions of the future for Philadelphia after winding up with the third pick in next month’s draft. Wojnarowski believes the Sixers will make a strong play for Redick, an 11-year veteran who would fill a position of need at shooting guard while bringing leadership to the locker room. Redick will probably receive offers starting at $16MM to $17MM annually, Wojnarowski predicts, and Philly’s strongest competition for him will come from the Nets, as well as the Knicks if they can clear enough cap room.
There’s more tonight out of Philadelphia:
- The Sixers may try to trade down in the draft, suggests The Vertical’s Bobby Marks in the same video, because there isn’t a perfect fit for them at No. 3. They are believed to have interest in Kentucky guard Malik Monk, who could be available a few picks later. Marks says the Kings, who own picks No. 5 and No. 10, might emerge as a trading partner. He adds that Philadelphia also owns an unprotected Lakers pick next season, an unprotected Kings pick in 2019 and a pick from the Thunder in 2020 that is top-20 protected, all of which could be used as trade assets.
- President of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo was planning a “measured, organic growth path” if the Sixers came away from Tuesday’s lottery with two picks, relays Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Instead, the Lakers landed in the top three and got to keep their selection for another year, which leads Colangelo to a more aggressive approach that will involve seeking veteran help through trades and free agency. “We are going to have both opportunities available to us now,” he said. “We are going to look at all those alternatives, all those options.” Pompey lists Redick, Kyle Lowry, Otto Porter, Danilo Gallinari and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as free agents the team might target.
- Jahlil Okafor is an obvious candidate to be used as a trade chip, writes Jessica Camerato of CSNPhilly. The second-year center has been a poor fit in Philadelphia since being drafted in 2015. Many observers expected him to be dealt at the February deadline, but Nerlens Noel was shipped to Dallas instead. “I want to find a situation that’s great for us and great for Jahlil, and if that means him staying here then that’s great,” Colangelo said. “He’s a great kid and a great player and we’re going to see how he fits with this group.”
Celtics trade No. 1 and their two picks in the 50’s for No. 3, Covington, and Holmes.
Man, i really hate that trade but at last it is fair. Big problem is Sixers already have 4 2nd round picks, 2 more and we could field a full team in each continent. And why can’t you guys just take Okafor!!
This won’t happen, but that actually feels fair to me. The Celtics could just take Fox, Smith, or trade down if they really want their PG of the future.
Celts would want more for #1. Fultz is head and shoulders above the other players in this draft. Sixers would have to tack on another 1st to get the conversation started.
You don’t go from trying to sign Durant last offseason, to talking about Butler, Gordon and Hayward, to trading for Covington, especially when you have crowder. Fair or not, that’s just stupid.
Gordon Hayward*
Monk looked like Kevin Hart during his lottery interview. He may be 6’1 at best. He looked shorter than the girl questioning him. Hair doesn’t count towards height. That makes it hard for me to continue wanting the sixers to draft him. Lou Williams 2.0.
Pick is Fultz, Ball, or Jackson in that order. Reddick at 17M makes no sense whatsoever. Bring Korkmaz over he shoots 40% from 3 too. Don’t overpay a 33 yo player. They’ll have to re-up Embiid or move on from him, Simmons, Saric sooner than later. If Embiid is a bust next season, between the Lakers pick and their own they’ll have to target Ayton or Bamba so they’ll need to keep some assets for a future trade.
Lou Williams is a pretty good NBA player. I wouldn’t hesitate to trade somebody who can create shots like Sweet Lou.
Korkmaz and Reddick are not even in the same stratosphere in shooting ability. JJ for $17,000,000 annually is a little steep but at least you know what you’re getting.
Who is Lou guarding though that’s the problem. Who is Monk going to guard.
The difference between Reddick and Korkmaz is about 14M a year based on estimated contract for Reddick. Korkmaz isn’t going to step in and be better than Reddick day one or day 100, but he’s cheaper with the same skillet as a taller SG and signing a 33 yr old Reddick doesn’t help this team bc they aren’t going to compete for a Championship the next two years. At least it makes little sense at 17M. If it’s the 8-10m range then sure why not. Korkmaz to Reddick isn’t apples and oranges it’s like… Clementines and Oranges lol
Timberwolves acquire:
58th pick
15th pick
20th pick
26th pick
Festus Ezelis contract
Knicks Aquire:
7th overall pick
Allen Crabbe
Trailblazers Aquire:
Carmelo Anthony
44th pick
Festus contract is non guaranteed I thought they already declined it.
They’ve said they’re not bringing him back, but he’s still on their books for now. I imagine they’ll keep him around for a few more weeks in case he can be used as salary filler in a trade — if not, he’ll be waived.
Lakers get PG13
Pacers get Deng + 2018 Lakers 1st + 2019 Kings 1st + 2017 2nd rounder
Sixers get Russell
Sixers draft Jackson
PG – Russell
SG – Jackson
SF – Simmons/Saric
PF – Saric/Simmons
C – Embiid
Lakers don’t have a 2018 first, Sixers have that pick
Where do you think the pick is coming from? 3 team deal. So I’m trading two potential lottery 1sts for Russell.
I’d think this is a little more realistic for this 3-team trade:
Lakers get PG-13
Pacers get 2017 #2 pick, 2018 Lakers 1st, two of Ingram, Russell, Randle or Nance
Sixers get Clarkson, Deng
