The Knicks have legitimate interest in re-signing Derrick Rose, reports Ian Begley of ESPN. At 28 years old, Rose will be a free agent for the first time in his career in the coming days. The report also states that the Knicks are not interested in paying large salaries for any free agents, so that may play a role in whether Rose re-signs with the team. The Knicks are also keen on ensuring Rose’s health, as the point guard’s career has been riddled with injuries both major and minor.
Here’s what else you need to know from the Atlantic division:
- The Celtics‘ 2016 draft pick, Ante Zizic, arrived in Boston and will begin practicing with the team this week, reports Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe. Zizic was drafted 23rd overall and played the 2016/17 season in the EuroLeague with the Turkish club, Darussafaka Dogus, where he was coached by David Blatt. “I took him downtown last night a little bit,” Celtics director of player personnel Austin Ainge said. “He’s just doing things like getting workouts in, getting medical stuff, physicals done, all that type of stuff. He’s ready for summer league.”
- Despite being named in several blockbuster trade rumors, Avery Bradley remains unfazed, writes A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England. “I try not to worry about it too much because it’s out of my control at the end of the day,” Bradley said, adding, “It’s part of the business, man. You just got to accept and understand that your name is going to be thrown in trade talk. You can get traded at any time. You just have to be prepared and focus on just being the best player that you can be.”
- As passed along earlier, the 76ers are one of the seven teams from which Andre Iguodala is drawing interest. Iguodala spent the first eight seasons of his career in Philadelphia.
So let’s get this straight if your an aging player far passed your prime who skips GAMES you get a new contract but if you are young up and coming all star and possible face of the franchise you are put on the trading block for missing a meeting ……. How hasn’t the NBA stepped in to take control of the knicks???
Because the Knicks franchise brings in money. If this was the Pelicans or Kings or once upon a time the Clippers, the NBA would have been shut Dolan down. As long as the franchise keeps bringing in money the NBA will look the other way.
First of all, you make it sound like Rose is 38… Second, he “skipped” ONE game… And lastly, stop being such a drama queen. You want the NBA to “step in” and “take control” of a team, because they are considering signing a player you don’t like?
His knees are 58 and he also had that rape case and the Knicks are going to overpay him to stay while alienating their best player for not showing up to an optional interview. The NBA stepped in to take over the 76ers even though Sam Hinkie wasn’t doing a bad job (he was doing a great job in retrospect). Such an obvious disregard for on court fit and talent should be more of a reason to take over a front office than tanking. At the very least test Phil for dementia or something
I don’t mind the Knicks re-signing Rose for at most two years. Any longer and it will be just as bad as Noah’s contract. I’ve come to this conclusion because I don’t see ANY FREE AGENTS coming to the Knicks because of Jackson’s treatment of his players, along with his insistence on having Hornaceck run the triangle, and the lack of a defensive identity ran by Rambis. Let’s go KNICKS 2020 haha!
Bringing back Rose would make all the sense in the world if the Knicks weren’t under Phil’s control and the triangle offense because a lineup of
Rose-Lee-Melo-Porzingis-Noah could win you 50 games but not playing a triangle offense.
Sure that could win 50 games 5 years ago (not Porzingis he would’ve been like 17) but that’s not a 50 game winner now
Have to agree with dionis! The triangle is killing the knicks. If it weren’t for that offense, 50 games not unthinkable!
No way Noah and Rose aren’t what they used to be, Lee is a role player, Melo isn’t that good, and Porzingis only scored 18 PPG.
You’re smoking crack
I think the Knicks should go after MCW, and not Rose, Rose will get hurt, its just a matter of time..they wanna get younger and Rose is not going to help Nilkita…if they can get a veteran PG who can help, it would be better then Rose or MCW..but i agree the triangle has to go, and go away with Phil…Bring back Walsh
Please Celtics don’t make the mistake of trading away Avery Bradley
I’m all for re-signing him. Just make sure his contract has a “team option” for when he inevitably gets injured. Even “not-guaranteed” works. They exist for players like Rose and Noah Jackson. Learn to give them.
Noah could’ve used one of those to make that contract less of an albatross, considering he only played 29 GAMES because of season-ending shoulder dislocation surgery yet you gave him $72M four years GUARANTEED. Come on Phil Don’t butcher this one. You have all the leverage
That moment as a Knicks fan when you wish Kupchak was still a GM while Rose is a FA. Signing Rose is just confirmation of the disaster called the New York Knicks.
