The Bulls have waived Rajon Rondo and Isaiah Canaan, Jeff Goodman of ESPN tweets. The news, at least as far as Rondo is concerned, comes as no surprise.
Earlier we wrote about how today was the deadline for the Bulls to part ways with the veteran guard, lest the organization hang on to him and be on the hook for an extra $10MM in guaranteed money.
As Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports writes, Rondo’s impressive last season surge did wonders for his value but an injury in the postseason, coupled with the Bulls’ change in direction post-Jimmy Butler, have spelled the end to his brief tenure in Chicago.
Per Mannix, Rondo may need to wait until much of the initial free agency period dust settles before he can lock down a deal with another ball club.
I’m not so sure that Rondo has to wait a long time. He still has it in the tank and is still a great passing and defensive point guard. I’m actually a little surprised Chicago wouldn’t want to keep him so he could mentor Kris Dunn.
will not be surprised to see Clippers find a way to add Rondo to its roster. Charlotte could really use him as well.
If Rondo is willing to except a 6th man type bench role then his best bet is the Cavaliers. I see the CLippers utilizing A. Rivers as a stop gap this year. If Griffin leaves, I believe that the Clippers will hit rebuild mode and trade Jordan for a draft pick or two +another player or two.
Yeah Doc is dying to coach Rondo again, they got along great the first time
Lol
I agree with socalbum. Charlotte needs a PG to back up Kemba Walker and he can play beside Kemba in a two point guard set
Lakers should sign this guy as a back up PG on a one year deal.
Rondo that is
Chicago front office is garbage…. their team is going str8 down the toilet this year…u had an average team with rondo at the point… could have slipped in the playoffs again … but now u waive the one guy that could make all the rest of your players look gud…. so sad…. but rondo will definitely get picked up B4 late… he has to much left!!!!
Its better to be horrible and get a good draft pick then being so so with no chance at a championship.
Yea Chicago just hit rebuild and releasing Rondo is a smart move. I don’t see Wade staying after next season. He’ll most likely be with James, Paul, or Melo for the 18-19 season.
Well wades contract is up after this season so that’s not a big revelation
while ur right that the front office is garbage, its the right move because who wants to be an 8th seed and get another mid pick. blow it all up and start fresh
if they wanted Rubio they would have to trade sum 1 so it makes no sense to waive rondo if u could trade him…. stupid Chicago bulls front office!!!
Dafuq are you on bruh ?
Rondo had a ok season last year let’s be real and he had a attitude problem for most of it there were talks about cutting him all yr he has been known to be a bad teammate and a headache for coaches and there is no way he goes to the clippers Doc can’t stand the kid if anything he ends up on the knicks
Wade will be bought out very soon. He won’t be playing on a rebuilding team.
i dont see wade being bought out. 1ownership is cheap as hell. theyre going to make him earn that 24mil because w. or without him the bulls will be bad this year.
You never know about Rondo he might have run out of teams never happy with nobody
