LeBron James had opposition within his family when he decided to return to the Cavaliers in 2014, relays Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com. James shares the information in an episode of “Uninterrupted,” his web-based production, which was taped during All-Star weekend and posted Friday. Gloria James remained angry about a derisive letter written by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert when LeBron left Cleveland for Miami. “Some people was on the fence,” James explains. “Even my wife was like, I ain’t, my mom and my wife was like I ain’t with that. … I had to finally just be like, you know mom it ain’t even really about [the Gilbert letter]. For me, going back is more of this. It’s more of a bigger picture. It’s more of all these kids, all these people, that need inspiration and need a way to get out. And I believe I am that way out.”
There’s more today out of Cleveland:
- If the Cavs wind up losing in the Finals, it won’t be easy to improve for next year’s run at the Warriors, according to Dave McMenamin and Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com. The first decision will involve whether to re-sign GM David Griffin, whose contract runs out at the end of the month. Griffin was sought after by Orlando and Atlanta before they hired other candidates, as well as Milwaukee, which trimmed its GM search to three finalists this week. McMenamin and Windhorst talked to several anonymous sources to get player personnel advice, with suggestions including trading away Kevin Love and trying to acquire Paul George from the Pacers. Cleveland’s biggest obstacle in making any roster moves is its cap situation. The franchise paid $24MM in taxes this year and because of the repeater tax would be looking at a $38MM bill if they keep the same payroll next season. The salary commitment could be even higher if the team brings back free agent Kyle Korver, who the authors say can expect a deal similar to the $14MM per year that Jamal Crawford received last summer.
- Coach Tyronn Lue deserves credit for not changing the team’s rotation or style of play in Game 4, notes Bud Shaw of Cleveland.com. After hearing public outcry to slow down the tempo, the Cavs responded with 49 points in the first quarter and 86 in the first half of a 137-116 win. That meant only two minutes for Derrick Williams, who will be a free agent this summer, and no playing time for Channing Frye, who has one year left on his deal at about $7.4MM.
What if Cleveland made history made come back and win game seven
It is possible with King James and Irving Cleveland is a very dangerous team
What if Cleveland come back to win game seven in 2017???
with King James and Irving Cleveland is a very dangerous team
What if the refs pulled the whistle out of their mouths. Series would be over.
True that.
The Cavs are not meant to be underestimated but I wouldn’t count on the Warriors laying another egg like they did last night.
If anything the refs tried to give that game to the Warriors.
Did you watch the game? 4 of warriors had 2 fouls in 1st quarter. Hard to play defense in that situation. Look at FT disparity.
I would stop watching bball… last game was ridiculous enuff… but it will never happen this year!!!
Griffin is an overrated gm that Korver trade was terrible
How so?
I don’t think they need JR Smith and Korver. Both are just slight variations of each other.
Korver is a knock down shooter with average defense but high IQ. Smith is a streaky shooter who takes difficult shots, a decent defender, but low BBall IQ.
How do you measure BBall IQ?
They need to ship out Frye to get under the luxury cap.
Yep
It’s going to take a lot more than trading Frye to get under the luxury tax, but I agree that trading him wouldn’t be a bad idea because even though I like him, he hasn’t gotten much playing time this postseason anyway.
If they *really* want to get under the tax, they could always try trading Shumpert and/or Thompson, but obviously Thompson in particular seems pretty unlikely.
I know the Pacers don’t have much leverage, but I’d be really surprised if the Cavs had nearly enough to trade for Paul George. They honestly don’t really have much to offer other than Cedi Osman, some role players, and maybe some low-end picks.
Better to try to trade Thompson and JR and Shumpert and bring in Wade as a free agent. With Korver and Wade replacing JR and Shumpert. Thompson has no real value with Love. The only way to fix this overpaid roster is to trade the similar parts
I’ve brought up Thompson to the Knicks for Melo a few times. The Cavs must match scoring for scoring. The Warriors will score obviously. Trading Love who is a matchup nightmare for the Warriors. (When he’s making shots) makes no sense. Bring in scorers and get rid of Thompson and the ex knick duo
Sure they could score but how will they defend Warriors? Melo would get eaten alive at that pace.
They need another leader, scorer to lead team while LBJ’s mins get wayyyy lower! If they don’t trade away Kevin Love, their window is closed!
Probably not something Phoenix would do, but how about Tristan Thompson, Jr smith, Iman shimpert, Channing Frye, 2021 Cavs 1st round pick, and rights to Cedi Osman to Phoenix for Bledsoe, Chandler, Jared Dudley, Landry Barbosa and Toronto 2017 2nd round pick. I feel like it’s an asset light on Cleveland’s side going back to Phoenix b/c they’re moving Bledsoe
Or what about a deal with portland. Like the same pieces going out from cleveland for Crabbe, Turner, Leonard, and Ezili…
Or the lakers for Deng, Mozgov, Clarkson, and Nick Young…
Or some sort of deal with the Clippers with Kevin love, Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert, Kyle Korver, Cavs 2021 1st rounder, Cedi Osman for DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford, Austin rivers, Wesley Johnson.
That last one is probably the worst one. They all might be bad. Just trying to see what kind of drastic things theyd have to do to change their roster. They definitely aren’t going to be able to open up money, so they have to deal big contracts for big contracts somehow. Would be a lot easier if they still had that 2019 pock they sent to Atlanta
Autocorrect on Leandro Barbosa is different every time lol
Lebron left Cleveland for 4 seasons so they’d be able to build a competitive team before he would choose to come back
