8:07pm: Discussions between the Pacers and Celtics on George have stalled for now, according to Wojnarowski (via Twitter).
7:06pm: The Pacers and Celtics are engaged in “serious” discussions about a potential Paul George trade, league sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical (Twitter link). While the sides remain apart on a potential deal, talks have gained momentum, per Wojnarowski (via Twitter).
The Celtics used their third overall pick tonight to select Jayson Tatum. If the Pacers and C’s can come to an agreement on a George deal, it’s not clear whether or not Tatum will be involved in the swap.
George is one of the top trade candidates available now that Jimmy Butler is now off the board, with the Bulls having reached an agreement to send him to the Timberwolves. Before finalizing that deal, the Pacers and Wolves discussed a deal involving George, tweets Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500 in Minneapolis. The Pacers asked for Zach LaVine and more in return, which Minnesota refused, opting for Butler instead.
The Rockets also haven’t given up their pursuit of George, tweets Marc Stein of ESPN.com. I’d expect the Lakers to check back in as well if a deal appears close.

Don’t take Jayson Tatum away already. :'(
Celtics hold all the leverage, how much value does a soon to be unrestricted free agent have
– Captain Obvious
Agreed, but the Celtics will have to give up at least one attractive asset. The Lakers proposed deal (Clarkson, Randle, 27th and 28th picks) isn’t all that appealing but at least offers some young assets. I don’t see Rozier or some down the line first round picks being all that appealing to Indiana.
Rozier and the Lakers Sacramento thing plus Boston’s top 2nd tonight
Honestly I think Smart would have to go in place of Rozier. I don’t see why people love Rozier, he hasn’t done anything special in Boston and at best is a backup point guard. But I could see Boston giving up Smart because of the logjam that would be created. Keeping Smart, in a potential trade, would leave too many guys and not enough minutes to play at the SG/SF positions. I mean you would be talking finding enough minutes to split between Bradley, Smart, Crowder, Brown, Tatum, and George. Especially since adding George would limit the minutes of Brown and Tatum, they would need to create some minutes to give them on-court time to develop.
Yeah that’s a better idea plus they’re more likely to take Smart. The pick is better than 27 and 28, and the pick should be good because you have George and the Lakers do not. Also Jimmy Butler has been traded so not a lot of known options left after that.
Also, with Smart being a free agent at the end of the year (as well as Bradley), it might be more beneficial for them to get something for him now. Otherwise the Celtics would have to worry about new contracts for Thomas, Bradley, Smart, AND George; and in that scenario it’s likely that at least one of those four would end up walking.
Yeah I could see Bradley getting too expensive for their liking as well.
A SF needs to go back to replace George.
That’s the opposite direction of LA
I’m ok with this if it doesn’t include the Nets pick, Tatum, Brown, or Isiah. Preferably not Bradley, but I don’t see the interest in a 1 year rental anyway. Take crowder, take Smart, take Rozier, take all the other picks, if you like Mickey or Jackson take him they should be cut anyway.
Give it all away Danny! He’ll be in LA next year!
If he gives the nets pick, ainge should be fired tomorrow… give them brown and next years Celtics 1st
Sounds like he got traded
?
Oh, never mind!
Of course it stalled… don’t expect anything else out of Danny!!!
Ainge is trying to get the Lakers to bite. Didn’t work. The rivalry is still alive
LOL! Sure Woj!
I don’t want the Celtics to get PG13 unless he promises to sign an extension. There isn no point of trading away young cost controllable assets plus picks for a guy who is already looking ahead to next offseason and not focused on trying to help his current team(whatever team that may be other than the Lakers)
for money to work; Crowder and Bradley
Nah Boston has cap space
Not yet and they have to sign Tatum plus their 2016 draft picks (assuming that they do not spend another year in international ball)
Not like George is making 30 million and they would just wait to finalize the trade. No point in forcing a better offer to get him now instead of in 2 weeks.
Agree 1000%, there is no reason to rush and/or overpay. I do believe that George will change his mind about LA after playing for C’s under Stevens plus a lot more $$$$.
It all depends on when the trade is made. Zeller and some cap holds could probably be renounced to clear enough space. As a Pacers fan I don’t see Crowder being involved unless the Celtics get an assurance that PG will sign an extension. Bradley or Smart are more likely since they are free agents at the end of the year and Boston will likely lose one via free agency if they add another max-type of player (PG or Hayward or another player).
If it has to cost us Crowder and Bradley for George I hang up right away. Crowder has developed into a good 2 way forward who isn’t on PG13’s level but he isn’t as far behind as people realize and Bradley is a great 2 way guard. And Crowder is on a very team friendly deal so if I had to pick between having Crowder Bradley and one of Smart/Rozier/Tautum or PG13 I am picking the first option.
rozier has little value. He’s average at best, only Celtic fans think they can give away garbage and get Paul George Hahahaha
PG ain’t goin to the leprechauns
Everyone seems to forget the C’s problem was never scoring it was rebounding why aren’t they focusing on that not another players to stand be hind the line and shot 3’s we need a big no more guards and small forwards
