The Sixers are still actively seeking another first-round pick in Thursday’s draft despite acquiring the top overall pick from the Celtics on Monday, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Philadelphia will take Washington point guard Markelle Fultz at the top of the draft but still have four second-rounders in this draft to dangle, as well as numerous other future picks. The Sixers could trade a player on their current roster in a package with some of those second-rounders or future picks to get another player in the first round, Pompey adds. “I think whether we were selecting at No. 1 or staying at 3, there’s been some talk about our interest in acquiring yet another pick,” President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo told Pompey and other media members. “I’m not going to give up those efforts because we moved up to No. 1.”
In other notable developments involving this year’s lottery:
- Suns GM Ryan McDonough doesn’t anticipate moving the No. 4 pick in the draft, as he told Scott Bordow of the Arizona Republic and other reporters on Monday. The Suns have been rumored to part of three-way deals involving Paul George and Jimmy Butler, and they are also reportedly enamored with UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball, who is expected to be drafted No. 2 overall by the Lakers. However, McDonough says he’s comfortable with staying put and taking whatever player falls to that spot. “We have a good grouping of players regardless of who goes one, two or three we really like,” McDonough told Bordow. “I think at this point there’s one player we feel won’t be there for sure at No. 4 (Fultz) and we’re prepared for every other scenario.”
- The Mavs have hired the coach of potential lottery pick Frank Ntilikina, Vincent Collet, to run their Orlando Summer League team, ESPN’s Chad Ford tweets. Collet is Ntilikina’s coach for SIG Strasbourg in France. The coaching hire means that Dallas, which has the No. 9 pick in the draft, is “all in” on Ntilikina, Ford adds. Ntilikina wants to go to Dallas but the Knicks, who have the No. 8 pick, are also interested in the point guard, Ford reports in a separate tweet. Despite the Mavs’ efforts, the Knicks have shown the most interest in the French point guard, according to the New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy, having sent scout Makhtar Ndiaye to watch him extensively.
- Danilo Gallinari‘s foray into free agency will have little to no impact on the Nuggets’ lottery selection, according to Nick Kosmider of the Denver Post: President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly told Kosmider and other reporters that the club isn’t targeting a specific need with the No. 13 overall pick. “Whoever we draft, whether it be No. 13 or we move up or we move down, it would be hard for them to have a significant role next season,” Connelly said.
Sixers will hopefully move okafor and a pick or 2 to get back into 1st round. Any interest blazers?
Okafor,39 & 46 to the Lakers for 28
roo much for 28
It mightve been.but Okafors value is down, and i was looking at this as making sure minutes were available for Holmes.and i also figured the Lakers would aquire a center, which they did.i thought Okafor could possibly get them out of the top 5 in next years draft.and the guy i wouldve been hoping for at 28 was Derrick White, who went to the Spurs at 29.
Overall im still happy with what the 6ers did.but i still think Okafor has to be moved.i still believe he could be a good player,i just dont think it’ll happen in Philly.
umm no says the 6ers
Umm hell no says the lakers
Okafor, 39 and 46 to the Lakers for 28? Why would the Sixers do that? You aren’t getting anything at 28. If the Sixers are getting back into the first round, they’re going to try and get in the top 10. Gonna have to throw in Okafor just to unload him with the first rounder that won’t convey plus 1 or 2 second rounders. You don’t pull the trigger on a deal just for a deal to draft a back up to a back up type of player. Already got that player in TJ. Sixers have to see how this young core plays together before trading assets for a #28 pick.
And what do you think the 6ers have that gets them another top 10 pick?
Either the 2018 or 2019 pick that doesn’t convey plus their our 2019 1st round pick along with a player and all those worthless 2nd rounders. Could pull off a deal with the kings at 10. Then next year you sign 1-2 free agents.
Ways to get another 1st rounder:
Idea 1. Henderson, Okafor, Stauskas for Carmelo Anthony (waive – 2yrs 62.2M) + 8th overall pick + a protected 2019 1st. OR for 2 future 1st round picks (i.e. 2018 and 2020) (let’s be honest you’re taking on +30M for each of the next 2 years b/c of the 15% trade kicker. Melo goes to Cavs.
-waives/trades Henderson (9M non-guaranteed)
Idea 2. Henderson + Stauskas for Allen Crabbe (3yrs 56.3M) + 15th overall pick.
-waives/trades Henderson (9M non-guaranteed)
Idea 3. Henderson, Okafor, Stauskas for Dwight Howard (waive – 2yrs 50M) + 19th overall pick + a protected future 1st
-waives/trades Henderson (9M non-guaranteed)
Idea 4. Henderson for Enes Kanter (2yrs 36.4M) + 21st Overall
-waives/trades Henderson (9M non-guaranteed)
Idea 5. Henderson for Greg Monroe (1 yr 17.8M) + 17th overall.
-waives/trades Henderson (9M non-guaranteed)
Idea 6. Henderson for Joakim Noah (keep/waive 3yrs 55.4M) + 2 first round picks.
-waives/trades Henderson (9M non-guaranteed)
-Blazers are desperate to cut salary.
-Knicks are desperate to get out of Melo and probably Noah just as much.
-Atlanta may want to move on from Dwight.
-OKC wants to free up space to bring in better players to keep Westbrook interested in staying.
-Bucks have been looking to dump Monroe for years.
Add in a 2nd round pick wherever. They have 4.
The ONLY deal here that is remotely plausible is the Crabbe one.
You’ve gotta come at me with more than a 1 liner with 0 rationale for me to engage…
I dont even think that 1 is..if Portland is giving up 15,they could probably make a swap with Brooklyn for 1 of their picks in the 20s,with Brooklyn taking the whole salary.
NBA.com says Portland has the 15th (Own), 20th (Memphis), and 26th (Cavs) overall for 2017.
How is Brooklyn coming into play?
If you’re talking about Crabbe to the Nets, they gave him an offer sheet, there’s rules in place where he can’t be traded to them until a certain time period – 1 year. I don’t know if that’s like a strict 1 year from sign date or what though.
Nets have to trade a salary back to make the deal work anyway and the Blazers don’t want salary – Henderson’s is non-guaranteed, i.e. cut him and it doesn’t impact their cap. They would essentially free up 18.5M.
The Nets have the cap space to take that contract,so no,they wouldnt have to send back salary.and yea, they would have to wait to make the deal, same way the cavs had to wait to trade Wiggins for Love.deals are made and announced at later dates.it happens.
Sixers have 24m in cap space and I still had to junk in contracts
None of those deals make any sense and I’m giving you 0 rationale because it shouldn’t be too hard to see why they don’t make sense.
@aamatho18 I’ve never seen you post on here, I’ve been on this site for several years, your comment holds zero value.
–Note on Melo trade… Stephen A just said NYC is looking to buy him out rather than try to trade him.
I can see them doing that over giving up the 8th pick to get rid of him and adding players with little value.
You must love Henderson
Henderson’s contract is 9m non guarantee its very valuable in a trade with a team that can’t take salary into the season.
Took less than I thought to dump Howard’s 23M
Exactly,Atlanta didnt have to include a 1st to get rid of him, which was the point to all those fantasy trades you made up,how the 6ers could aquire another 1st.
Idea 7. Henderson for Bledsoe/Knight (doesn’t matter) + 1st round swap rights until it converts no protection.
-waive Henderson.
Package the 2nds and Okafor to get as high as possible.
Okafor I’ll give you a bag of chips.
You guys are undervaluing Okafor
Ironically, the team that would value Okafor, picked 3rd, the most are the Knicks – he is perfect for a Triangle Offense. And Prozingis, picked 4th, would be perfect on the Sixers. But Porzingis value >>>> Okafor at this point.
Seeing a couple mocks out there that have TJ Leaf probably going 25-28. Other than being able to shoot the 3 at 43% can he play any Defense or does he have any size and speed. I know very little about him but as a Sixers fan I’d take a shot (no point intended) on him. Get 10 minutes a night out of him and let him spread the court and fire away. If he got any defense game he could be a nice piece off the bench. Just don’t need a Kyle Corver type player. Don’t think it would break the asset bank to move up and get him. What do you guys think and is he worth anything? Maybe send Okafor and the 32 pick to LA to get the 28 pick if Leaf is there?
