The Jazz are among 12 teams that have contacted the Rockets about starting guard Patrick Beverley, writes Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune.
Sources tell Jones that Utah GM Dennis Lindsey is searching for a veteran point guard. Incumbent starter George Hill is a free agent and may not return to the team next season, although Jones hears that the Jazz will try to keep Hill even if they acquire Beverley.
While it may be trickier for the Jazz to land Beverley after July 1, the team would have plenty of flexibility to acquire him before the new league year begins. As our salary cap snapshot for Utah shows, the Jazz finished the season more than $13MM+ below the cap, which is more than enough room to accommodate Beverley’s $6MM salary. That cap room would disappear after July 1 due to pricey free agent cap holds.
The Rockets are reportedly trying to move Beverley, along with Ryan Anderson and Lou Williams to create cap space for a maximum offer to a top-level free agent.
What 7.1 exception? Do you mean the fact they’re 13mm+ under the cap currently?
Not sure where the $7.1MM figure came from. I’ve updated to fix the numbers, thanks.
Hard to think of a max FA that would help the Rockets better than the trio of Anderson, Lou Will, and Beverley. I’d think Eric Gordon is the better piece to move.
Eric Gordon was more productive than Ryan Anderson. Anderson when not hitting shots is a waste of a starting player. He’s too slow, has no post moves, gets dominated in the paint and provides no weak side defense. Plus his contract would free up the most amount of money.
Yeah but same could be same for multiple players in the NBA. That’s why it’s a “make or miss league”. Not sure what Eric Gordon gives you when he’s not making shots but I think it’s easier to find a SG than a solid stretch 4. Collectively in what Lou Will brings (bench scoring), PB (tenacious defense in the backcourt), and Anderson (3 pt shooting) is more than any CP3, Blake Griffin, or Gordon Hayward can offer you as a single player in my opinion
I would hate to see Beverley go I was not impressed with Anderson. A lot of times not productive even with three pointers and more. Sometimes late would hit but Eric is the better to keep. I am not sure what Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, or Paul George will do for us around James or if would really fit. All three are great players but as said will they fit. If Pat goes would really love for him to find somewhere that he can help if Rockets really want to get rid of him. Makes me wonder on others with Rockets will they bring Nene back or use Harrell. Now that GM was extended what will come for Rockets
Trade for who? What expiring contracts or players to be waived would Utah send back?
