After impressing the Knicks in his exit interview, Derrick Rose may have secured himself a spot with the franchise next season, Charley Rosen of FanRag Sports writes. The free agent guard will, however, have to make some adjustments should the team re-sign him.
Rosen notes that Rose will have to learn to make quicker decisions with the ball and limit the amount of times he penetrates without a plan, something he was able to do with ease during the early stages of his career.
Should the veteran enthusiastically buy into the triangle and hone up his defense in a follow up season with the franchise, he could be the team’s short-term answer at point guard until rookie Frank Ntilikina is ready to take on a larger role.
There’s more out of New York:
- When the Knicks signed undrafted rookie Jamel Artis to a partially guaranteed deal this week, they landed a player who is eager to fill a role in the triangle offense, Adam Zagoria of FanRag Sports writes. “I’ll fit in that system very well. I’m a versatile player and I’m a shooter, so I can space the floor in the triangle,” he said.
- Count Malik Monk‘s poor fit within the triangle as one of the major reasons why the Knicks didn’t select him with their eighth overall pick, Moke Hamilton of Basketball Insiders writes. Frank Ntilikina, on the other hand, is precisely the type of player Phil Jackson prefers as his lead guard.
- Team president Phil Jackson is wary of building a future together with Kristaps Porzingis after the 21-year-old famously blew off his exit meeting with the franchise, Marc Berman of the New York Post writes. The worry, Berman notes, is to what extent Porzingis could damage the organization with future acts of rebellion.
So if Rose comes back that means he’s starting? Might as well keep Melo then till he has that opt out then.
Keeping rose isn’t a terrible idea, accept the fact we aren’t going to be good next year and have someone to take pressure off frank
why resign Rose if theyre not making the playoffs. its time to be real and tank until Phil is gone. you figure the way this is going the Knicks are in the lottery the next 4 years minimum.
You cant throw this 18 year old into a starting role, as was previously said you need a vet to take the pressure off him. As it is, the press can’t wait to rip this kid to shreds.
He’s a hardworker just like KP, he’ll be a great player with that size, length, and defense.
We had rose last year and we weren’t good. So keeping him means we can still tank
he will prob leave money on the table if he opts out
Exit interviews are crazy important for the Knicks apparently lol
yeah, respect matters
Right… Respect is a two way street. You can’t respect someone who doesn’t respect you…
Especially with how Porz defended Melo all those times throughout the season. Phil is just digging the franchise a huge hole.
I’m anti-Phil if he moves Porzingis, scary to think he would even do that.
I agree, Phil needs to go…
Phil still believes Noah can get back to playing like his old self, he spoke to Joakim. Noah looked tired and out of shape to me, I still don’t mind giving him a shot to prove himself this coming year.
Respect is dumb and unnecessary, nobody on the Cavs respects Dan Gilbert and they still won a championship
Where melo ends up for who could be interesting. In a few days I’m assuming a lot of trades. Especially if Paul and Hayward move teams.
Melo would be stupid to join the Cavs.
Melo isn’t going anywhere…
Lets pray man
Trust me Bro, he’s not going anywhere.
Phil creates a circus. Porzingas doesn’t like it and skips his exit interview. Now, Phil tries to paint Porzingas as the one in the wrong because he skipped the interview. Phil’s worried about what damage further acts of rebellion by Porzingas would do to the Knicks. I don’t think Porzingas is the one doing damage to the organization. Phil is
100% right
Ya I will be angry if Rose re-signs.
Phil is just worry about his massive ego… I’m glad Porzingis basically said: F you Phil…
Porzingis knows if Melo and Rose were able to play their game instead of enforcing triangle sets the Knicks would be way better which I agree. You couldn’t make Magic,Worthy, and Jabbar play in a triangle, they were showtime and ran teams out of the gym. If Phil is going to be around for the mother of God please don’t re-sign Rose.
Time for Jackass to leave. Worst move Dullman made. It’s been so long since
Patrick and Oakley were here.
Can we all chip in and buy Dullman out.
Maybe Bloomberg will buy the Knicks?
Can’t wait until they schedule Phil’s exit interview.
Me too…
y in God’s name did the Knicks agree to this a triangle offense!!! destroying the franchise!!!!
Trust in Phil my brotha.
So which team has the most dysfunctional front office right now. Chicago, Cleveland or the Knicks? geez
Cleveland, Chicago actually got a steal with Lavine.
A steal? Are you high? They traded away Jimmy Butler LOL!!!
